Nova Southeastern Univ (NSU-COM) Discussion Thread 2012 - 2013

I really want to go here for medical school! What are my chances?

3.5ish cGPA, 3.0ish sGPA, 24Q MCAT (for sure retaking Aug 23)

My stats are low, but I have great ECs and LORs (including one from a DO). Other than the stats, I do believe I am a good candidate but I could be completely wrong.

Please HELP!

Chances: Meh.... However it is worth the application and trouble this damn school will put you through....
 
Theres a section for transcripts on the application summary page...do we have to turn in transcripts to this school?

well the secondary itself was np but checking your status makes absoltuely no sense to me, lol. i followed their instructions and it doesnt really telll me if they have all my stuff it just says random stuff

yeah a box saying complete or not would be really nice..

I hope not. I have to send them from EIGHT different schools... Don't ask!

It may be for those that are still taking classes, the school may want "final" transcripts when classes are all finished. OR it could (and probably does) require official transcripts before matriculation. But I could be wrong!

All of my transcripts were sent to Interfolio (via aacomas)

I called and asked and they said we don't need to send in transcripts and to just ignore that little box.
 
Alright, I put an end to all of this confusion. Called and asked if I was ready to go and they said yes. No more transcript madness! Now it's time to wait...

one of the boxes lists a random university that i've never been to Univ Massachusetts Boston..lol

I think I'll call them tomorrow as well.
 
Just had a very strange phone conversation with an admissions lady. I was calling because last week I called and they said they didn't have my LOR yet and I was following up today when she tells me they've got my letters and that I should check my email as soon as possible because the next step is to schedule an interview when I get the interview invite by email. I was like, what? Does that mean I've been invited for an interview? And she gets all cryptic and just tells me over and over to check my email ASAP. Then I ask of they've already sent out any invite emails and she says let me put you on hold for a minute. When she comes back 3 or 4 mins later she just tells me again to check my email daily but this time adds that they have NOT sent me an interview invite yet.
So, now I'm wondering just what she saw on my account that made her think I had been invited for an interview...
Wishful thinking? Maybe

You are probably reading more into it than is there. She knows the process. When all letters are in, then you get an email for an interview. She did not know your file from the other thousands that are received, so she was initially giving you the standard answer. Then she probably pulled up your file and looked to see if they actually sent an invitation out. Since they did not do it today, it will be tomorrow or very soon. Remember, the admissions people deal with thousands of neurotic pre-meds all trying to get questions answered and get into their school. Relax and enjoy the ride.

NSU seems to be the most disorganized school.

Yeah and also some empty boxes with a university and transcript but according to one of the posts above we dont send them our transcripts.

When I submitted LORs I hadn't done any research and I figured I would try to save myself $6 so I just sent everything. Maybe that was a mistake though.
 
Applying here. OOS but have always loved Florida. Besides my IS school, this is my top choice. Still waiting on the MCAT score and to get verified, always fashionably tarded 🙄

I just got off the phone with someone in admissions. Had a pretty similiar conversation that basically came down to "keep checking your email". At least I know I'm complete now! She made it sound like a lot of people have been calling to check...

There are always a ton of people calling admissions. I was just in there today sorting out some FL residency stuff and the woman was constantly on the phone.

I ended up calling to check too. She was able to verify that they had all of my documents and she told me I was complete! YAY!
As far as the transcript thing, they only require transcripts when you have been accepted and are enrolling into their school.
Also, if you are seeing two dates/two applications when you log into your portal, she said one indicates when they received your primary, and the other is when they receive your secondary. WTF.

Anyways, if you are really lost at what you're looking at I'd say just call them. They were really helpful on the phone. Logging into the portal is so confusing and doesn't tell you much.
 
I called too, they said my file is complete and ready for review.
 
I talked with a lady in the admissions office about 20 minutes ago, and she said my application is currently being reviewed. However, my pre-health committee still hasn't sent in my composite packet. I asked them if they would send out an interview invite without it, and she said she doesn't know the answer to that question. It's pretty frustrating, but at least they are reviewing my file without it being complete. Just posting all of this as an fyi.

Yeah, I sent them 2 science letters, a DO letter, and one from my pre-health advisor. I don't know if that will work.
 
They will review and send you an interview even if you do not have all of the letter requirements submitted. I spoke with admissions a couple weeks ago and that is what I was told.

Nice. I haven't heard anything since getting that email almost a whole month ago.

That is fantastic news. I really hope I hear something soon.

Best case scenario: I get an interview invite with a date within a week of my LECOM one, then I could have a mini holiday in Florida 🙂
