A BIG congratulations to all the newest acceptances today!! You all deserve a night of celebratory festivities! 😀

My night off was yesterday after a physiology exam...back to the grind today, biochemistry exam 1 is on Monday... there goes another weekend.

If you get a chance can you expand on what you know about rotations here? How much is ward and how much is preceptor?

AZCOM of course!!!

You seem quite sure of that. What's your reasoning? 🙂

Because that is where I am going to go (hopefully), and I am awesome. Therefore you are not awesome unless you go to AZCOM.

Flawed logic I am afraid...

Did you not apply to nova?

Did you not apply to nova?

I did. I had an earlier interview but I pushed it back to early October. I do hear good things about this school. I like the society thing they do a lot.

You need to go rock that interview and then join ME at nova! Now THAT'S a killer plan...

He has, over LECOM 😀

Ha ha! Too true. I always have to stop myself when I start into the endless mental loop of comparing all the schools I've interviewed at. I have to stop and realize that the only real choice is between schools where I've been accepted. So between LECOM and nova, I choose nova.

I forget... did you get accepted at E or B? Or both?

I'll answer for the Dude because he is beating me at trying to catch up to MedPR.

He was accepted to E, at least at this point in time.

I got bored so I made a Facebook group for the class of 2017:

Dang. Now I might need to make a facebook... I have tried to avoid making one, and have been successful up to this point. Ha ha.

👍👍👍👍👍

Was pulling for you interview buddy!

Thanks. I know you were. I will see you again, soon. At that time we will be calling each other "Student Doctor"

I remember the first day that I was a "student teacher" and my wife asked me how I felt to be called "Mr. dsoz?" It was weird at the time. Now I will need to get used to "Dr. dsoz."

Haha yeah I would definitely get on Facebook. Come next year you'll have an extra resource for communicating with your fellow classmates and sharing study tips, websites, funny memes for when you are studying and get sick of studying lol. It's a MUST!

do they email rejections or waitlists?

i am thinking that i'm a bad interviewer 🙁

thanks. then i'm still hopeful they just haven't gotten to me.

Perhaps. I wasn't sure how they go down the list for uploading and sending out emails... but it looks like this cycle's applicants have cracked the code, so to speak. 👍

The admissions counselor did tell me that Dean Silvagni (sp?) likes to be quicker than LECOM-B. Perhaps he wants an early victory this year.

Not sure about rejections but they email and mail alternate letters.

That makes me feel worse... Guess I have a rejection to look forward to... Unless they skipped the middle last names and only did beginning and end. lol.

Well, interviewing early at NSU is definitely a plus. Sometimes I wonder what would have happened had I interviewed just a couple weeks to one month sooner than I did. Who knows... It seems as though NSU tends to fill up quickly. Whether that has anything to do with LECOM-B, I have no idea.

Sorry to hear that about you guys. I hope that it is a wrong assumption that you did not get an acceptance. You were both very nice when I met you before the interview. I hope you have more chances at schools very soon.

Good luck to you both.

congratulations to everyone who has been accepted and wish everyone else luck...does anyone know what the books will be for next year M1 students? I would like to familiarize myself with them....possibly get a head start since school is 10 months away.

My tour guide told us not to bother with books. Everything that the prof can test on is in the printed note packets. Also, the school GIVES each student an electronic copy of the books you will need for reference. All you will need is a way to read them. Laptop, tablet, smartphone, etc.

When I say "give" I really mean they increased tuition to pay for the printing of the note packets and to pay for your e-books.

I did not get a good look at the book list the tour guide showed me on his iPhone. So I could not tell you which books you would need if you really wanted to study.

Enjoy your freedom and sanity! Our books are ebooks. You get them first week. They are part of tuition and are significantly cheaper this way.

That's one thing that annoyed me about med schools. Look, you get a free iPad, a free computer, free books etc. No we pay for it... you just tacked it into the costs.... it's not free...

But you don't have to do any of the leg work to obtain those things. The school saves you a lot of time, gets it all and hands it to you when you get there. You can always make more money, you can't create time.

And most of the time they get stuff like that cheaper because they buy so many

I am interviewing this coming week. How have you been preparing? 😱

I am not trying to be a smart-alec, but the way I prepared was to make sure I had a plane ticket, a rental car, and a hotel for the night. Also, show up early to the interview. I had a GPS and still managed to get stuck in bad traffic and get lost. It took me near an hour to get from the hotel to the parking garage, a trip that was supposed to take about ten minutes. I am glad that I left really early because I still made it to the interview on time. But I was one of the last people to get there.

You must also know yourself and your primary application well. They asked me some questions about my leadership in volunteer experiences. They also asked me about a time when I had difficulty in a class and how I handled it to overcome the problem.

Just an open question to the great consortium of collective intelligence within the NSU thread:
is PCOM a better school than Nova?

I submitted my secondary there but did not pay the app fee and they just set me an interview invite for Oct. 3. Actually, I forgot about applying there once I was accepted here. Is it impressive enough of a school to go interview there as well?

I withdrew from it. It really depends on whether or not you think it could be a better fit for you.

Agreed. Make sure your plans are set. The last thing you want is to find out you don't have a flight scheduled even though you thought you did.

As far as preparing for the actual interview you should have answers for the typical questions (why medicine, why DO, why our school) and also comb through the SDN interview feedback for more school specific questions. It's very helpful.

Yes.

I always make sure I know my application well, make sure I have answers ready to the common questions like why medicine, why DO, and also know my stance on some ethical issues. Also it's good to be familiar with Obamacare, it came up pretty heavily at my TCOM interview.
Then the day before my interview I like to scope out the campus to make sure I know exactly where I'm going so I don't get lost and be late for my interview.

This was a big plus for me. Especially when compared to my Bradenton interview the previous day, where I saw students carting around 6-7 large textbooks in wheeled suitcases.

Ideally, I would like to study from lecture notes, podcasts, wikipedia, uptodate and online videos... supplementing with textbooks only when strictly necessary. But that's just me 😎
