Nova Southeastern Univ (NSU-COM) Discussion Thread 2012 - 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This is a rather silly question seeing that California is the most populous state in the US, but for current students, are there a lot of Californians in your class?

There are people from all over. California, Alaska, Texas, Canada... you name it. There isn't representation from all 50 states, but I don't think any school can say that.

I e-mailed housing when I got my interview (overly excited pre-med much?). They mailed me a package with the graduate housing info but nothing about apartments. I am pretty sure I am gonna live at the dorms at least during M1 while I'm still getting acclimated to everything. I think that will just make everything a little bit easier on me. The room already comes with furniture, I'm not gonna have to worry about paying bills...etc...

Same here. Plus I really don't want to deal with that traffic.

I've looked at a bunch of places around campus; most are dog friendly but have a weight limit of less than 50 lbs.

Sucks though because even when you find a place that seems like it will work, it is still too early to establish anything concrete and they have no idea what the availability will be like.

Hey guys, I thought I'd let you know, I just cancelled my interview on October 4th because I was accepted somewhere else, so now its open!

Go!

Looks like someone received your kindness. lol. There seems to be a spot open for oct 25th. Nov is good for me anyways.

Wow this thread's really active this year. Congratulations on all the interviews and acceptances! 👍👍

I'm in my second year in the graduate housing. I chose it the first year to not deal with the hassle of looking for housing from 1,000 miles away. I stayed this year because otherwise I'd have needed to buy a car already, and I'm putting that off until the end of this year.

Pros - very close to campus, shuttles take you right to the HPD building or the gym, fully furnished including kitchen and bathroom, all bills included, rent is automatically taken out before you get any refund money so you don't have to think about it, fairly large rooms (at least the singles - I've heard the quads are actually pretty small, but I've never been in one of those rooms), great pool 😎

Cons - shared laundry (probably an issue with most apartment complexes), still a dorm (some noise but not nearly as much as undergrad dorms), no pets

The two biggest cons are probably cost and parking. It's definitely expensive. If you compare it to a single in one of the apartment complexes right next to campus and add on their utilities, it's actually not too far off, but if you're trying to save money, the dorm's probably not the way to go. (If you're really trying to save money, find a roommate(s) and go farther away from campus). Also, if you live in the dorms you're not allowed to park on campus during main hours because they want you to take the shuttles. Most students who still want to drive to class get around this easily by parking in the non-campus parking lot near HPD.

Last thing, if you decide to live in the dorm, apply whenever they open the application up. It did fill up this year (not right away, but there were definitely people who were told it was full).

(Building A and Building C have different prices)

Have you checked out any of the places that are super close to campus? And dog friendly?

I've looked at a few places, just to make sure it would be doable but I haven't seriously inquired anywhere. I've been looking at places farther away from campus, just because it's cheaper.

Interviewing 10/4 (next Thursday) and I'll be out there with my friend. If the interview gets out at a good time (my return flight is just after 5), I'd love to meet up with some people at the TACO Beach Shack down in Hollywood! It has some awesome food for those who are interested. It's on the corner of Arizona St and Tyler St in Hollywood. Perhaps I'll see some of you there!

Haha sorry for the confusion skittles. I finally got my desktop running and randomly found it. I think it looks awesome too. Thanks 😀

I think you're the first person to realize that selttiks is skittles spelled backwards lol. I know you're uber busy and all, but any chance you've heard anything about rotations?

I haven't had the chance but I will ask some M2s soon. I am wondering myself.

Your stats (especially that sweet MCAT) are good. If you get an interview and rock it I don't see why not. Plus if you do end up getting an interview..just keep checking back because people are starting to cancel interviews after getting other acceptances. 🙂

+1
Also, even an interview in January isn't a bad thing! Good luck

Interviewed yesterday, and loved the school! Now the wait...

I was told by my interviewer that the adcoms would be meeting on october 4th.

Just got my interview changed to Oct 23rd. November 15 is now open

Thanks selttiks288 and dudeliness. Is it ok to submit the secondary now before I'm verified by AACOMAS and my primary gets transmitted or should I wait?

Personally I would probably wait to do the secondary until at least the primary has been verified and released. Just me though.

I recognize a couple people here from the 25th. No one knows who I am though. 😏

I know this is random, but what is the food like here on interview day?

Really? Were you in group 1 or 2?
I was in group 1. How about you??

LIES!!
I still recommend a clif bar or something in your pocket. Lunch is at the end.
+infinity. Seriously I was starving by the time we had lunch at 1pm so I'd definitely agree with the snack. If you could carry water too that would be good because we didn't have much access to water and it's very humid in Florida. I imagine the reason why we were all so exhausted by the end of the day because we were dehydrated.
One more thing, if you have special dietary needs then plan ahead and bring your own lunch. I have a gluten allergy and couldn't have anything except a few pieces of fruit they provided so I went all day without eating. It made my experience pretty miserable. 🙁
