This might be a dumb question but do you know if accepting the offer means you have to matriculate there? Or does accepting the offer and paying the fee just secure your seat?

Current M1 here. Congratulations to all of you, my future colleagues and friends. You are gonna change the world one day. To those of you who haven't heard back yet (or like me got several terrible WLs this time last year) : never give up. It just takes one

6 months ago, my PI's, my advisers, and multiple individuals on SDN/r/premed, suggested that pursuing an MD/PhD in Health Policy and Implementation Science wasn't realistic. I was told that I would be wasting my time and few MD/PhD program would be interested in taking up such a student, let alone fully fund them...

Welp, after months of working on apps, selling my past experiences in research, and drawing together a strong narrative, I got the call today... Future physician scientist in health policy and implementation science, Class of 2028!

Class of 2028
I am so extraordinarily happy for you. Truly, congratulations. As an MD/PhD you will be a pioneer and leader in your field and you will have a great and far reaching impact.

But boy...My daughter is a year out from kindergarten right now....You will be entering residency when she is halfway through middle school....Bruh...power to you.

Is it appropriate to withdraw from schools lower on our lists now? Why am I so nervous about doing this
I'm with you, I'm feeling kind of guilty about withdrawing from the DO schools I got into. I really did like your programs, don't take it personally!

Class of 2028!

What is in that sandwich?!

true, but its schools I haven't heard anything from so I'm not sure that would help lol.

The way I'm rationalizing it is if you're absolutely sure that you would prefer to go to one of the places you got accepted to vs a school you have yet to interview at or a school that you haven't heard back from, I would withdraw. Even if you haven't heard back, it's still may be negatively impacting someone whose dream it is to go to that school. Granted, I'm withdrawing from around 3-4 right now, but going to stay in it for the bulk of the schools I applied to.

But I would love to hear other people's thoughts on this! as you said...definitely makes me nervous but I think its just PTSD from this app cycle lol

If you’ve been accepted to one school, and you don’t see yourself going to another school, you should ABSOLUTELY withdraw. If your application is considered for an II, and you receive one, it takes that away from an applicant who would DREAM of going to that school. It’s also a waste of resources, time, and energy for those admissions committees who have to review your application. So, if you can’t see yourself going anywhere else, then please withdraw to give others an opportunity.

Just my $0.02 though!

About withdrawing... you don't know what you don't know, so proceed with caution. A school further down on your "list" may be the dream once you visit or they may be seemingly too expensive but then provide a hefty scholarship when you aren't expecting it making it the cheapest option you have. Just my 2cents.
