I know this question has been asked before but I'm still confused...if most match schools ONLY will consider you if you only apply to match schools...then who applies to the non match schools? I'm torn because there are programs on both sides of the fence that I like. But if I only apply to non match schools am I limiting my chances too much? 🤔

Not all schools that participate in match restrict you from applying to non-match. Only certain schools say you must only apply within the match system. You have to determine if those schools are important enough for you that you’d give up certain non-match schools which may be appealing.

Is anyone facing issues with ADEA PASS reapplication?

True...I just like several of the ones that say they only interview match exclusive applicants. Its a tricky spot to be in 🙂

On the note about match exclusive programs, most of the programs mention that they participate in match, but do not in their website further clarify if they participate in match only (exclusively) or not. Can we safely presume that these programs are okay with applicants to apply to both non-match and match programs?

Of course if the programs say that they only take applicants participating in match only, the answer is clear.

I'm also wondering if they'll ask about this in interviews. Of course you could lie, but if you accept a non-match position it probably doesn't look good. On the other hand, telling them in the interview that you have applied to non-match might not be a good look either.

Correct. I assumed a program was exclusively match ONLY if they stated it on their website somewhere or on pass.

Anyone else paralyzed with fear to click the submit button on the ADEA PASS application? 😳🤣
I checked mine over about 10x before i submitted… and found an error after I submitted 🥲

Has anyone else noticed that Montefiore is available to select in PASS but then on their website it says they don't participate in PASS? On their website it says "Please submit your application to [email protected]". I've tried calling today but haven't been able to get through to anyone.

It’s an external application you submit to them by email

Any idea if Indiana University accepts International students from non-CODA programs? Have been trying to reach them for a while, but I've gotten no response.

I just checked their page on the ADEA pass program finder and it says they do not accept non-coda programs but that’s all I could find 🤷‍♀️

That's correct. However, their program webpage says, "Graduates of international dental schools who have an equivalent educational background and standing also are eligible to apply." This is why I am confused.

Are programs able to tell if you applied to nonmatch schools? I know some programs ask you to sign a statement saying you applied to only match schools. I'm thinking of applying to all schools and signing the statement anyways as my advisor suggested. I wouldn't though if schools can tell where you applied though. What do you think?

Also does anyone know what the max essay length is for the personal statement? I've seen different numbers online.

I believe schools who receive your application cannot see where else you applied to. People whom you ask to be LOR can see your school list. Beyond that, I think it is an honor-based system. The dental and ortho world is small. I will leave it at that.

I didn't end up applying to the match exclusive programs - thanks for the feedback labrador!
Does anyone know if it's possible to turn down a position once matched to a program for a nonmatch program? Are there consequences for doing this?

You can withdraw from the Match before a certain deadline. If you back out after you match to a program, there can be consequences to you and to your school, your new program director may not like that you committed to a program then backed out after and this can make things dicey.

Thanks for the insight. If you get accepted to a nonmatch program (I'm assuming you find out before match decisions) do you have to accept immediately or can you wait to see if you strike out in Match to accept their offer?

Depends on if they give you a deadline or not to make a decision.

If I'm applying to Georgia School of Orthodontics as a backup in case I don't get in elsewhere, should I submit my application for their post-match round? I don't want to run into the scenario where I might interview there during MATCH and get matched there instead of somewhere else that I prefer more. What do you think? Thanks!

just rank them last and you won’t match there unless you don’t match at every other program ranked above them.

It also sounds like you don’t understand how the match works, I’d recommend watching this video

Just spent almost 10 grand on apps... (40+ programs :xf:)
Anyone know how much orthodontist associates and owners typically make?
I have limited data and wanted to figure out what's realistic these days.

In the same boat 🤞

Orthos in my area start at $1500ish a day, the average salary at a regional corp was $390k working 4-5 days a week. Don’t know the numbers for private, but my neighbor owns her own and is very happy.

How is it possible to sign the statement that you applied to Match programs exclusively, when they state in the website that they will check even if you get an interview you will be removed…. Please explain

What have you guys heard about GRE scores recently?

I am applying next cycle and wondering if i should retake. I got 151V/157Q.

I haven't seen any website saying they could/would check. I didn't end up applying to Match only schools to be safe.

I would retake personally - that seems pretty low to me. I'm sure you can do better. Not sure how much weight the GRE holds. I heard it can disqualify you but won't elevate your app if you do well. I also heard that verbal is looked at more. Good luck!

Hi everyone, I know most schools want you to apply to match only school for ortho residency. However, I am applying to some AEGD/GPR programs as a back up. Is it okay to apply to AEGD/GPR programs that does not participate in match since those programs are in Phase II and not Phase I?

Is it bad if I applied to both types of programs ... I didn't realize programs had a strong preference for match only outside of the match exclusive programs. Pretty sure there's nonmatch programs listed on my unofficial GRE score report i submitted to several schools... yikes lol

I have a q and wondering if anyone can help me!

So I took boards in July and submitted my application for the Aug 1st deadline. I hadn't received my scores then so I clicked that I am planning on taking the boards instead of it being taken and submitting a score. I didn't realize that I can't edit that information after I applied to my first schools. I thought that for the Aug 1st schools, it would say that I will take and then for the rest of the schools I thought I can edit and say I have taken and put my passing score. But now, I can't and I can only send in my scores to ADEA without it updating on the testing section.

Does this affect anything? Especially for the schools that require a passing score for applications? Or does it not matter as long as I have the scores attached to my application?

Thank you in advance!

From what I understand, once you send your score to adea pass, it will be added and show up in your application. You might be able to see it if they have received it under check status section or by downloading one of your application in ( Submit application ) page.

Has anyone received a supplemental to Penn? They say they send you an email after submitting PASS but I haven't gotten anything, not sure if others have/what they ask for

The supplemental app has some questions/essays. I got it emailed to me maybe a week after I submitted the PASS

Hello everyone, usually how long after the deadline has passed, do the schools start sending emails for interviews invitation?

If you scroll to the top of this thread, someone has listed the expected dates for invites and interview dates from last year to give a rough estimate.

Also received University of Iowa interview Invite, email, received on 8/12. Interview 9/27 with a social on 9/26

Don't apply to maimonides. Program is "on probation" with CODA and on the verge of closing down

Received interview invitation to Oklahoma on July 24th by email. Interview October 18th or 25th with social the night before both dates.

Is there an option to request to shadow/site visit this year? It seems like there are so many more visitors this year.

I submitted my app to NSU 5 days ago and haven’t received an email about the supplemental. How long do they usually take?
