Hey everyone! does anyone have advice on what the dress code of a ortho social is? Is it more business attire or casual attire?

Casual attire! Casual for me being nice pants, clean shoes (Veja, Cole Haan, etc.) and nice shirt (polo, short sleeve button or long sleeve button). You can tell from the response this a guy's outfit haha

Thank you so much! And what is the social like? Is it just like a dinner and are faculty there?

i wore a casual button down, chinos, and casual boots. But like nice casual clothes.
Most of the socials were just residents. One had faculty there to say hi at the beginning and left, few had faculty there the whole time, but the majority of the interviews I went to last year had just residents. Usually there’s dinner/finger food, some places take you bowling or other activities.

@Buldak nailed the response! Casual, meant to be fun and enjoyable. Remember to work the room, try to meet all the residents and don't be afraid to end a conversation if it gets stagnant and continue mingling with others. Usually no faculty around from my experiences!

For those who were invited to interview at UCLA, did yall visit the program beforehand?

I just received an automated message saying “your ADEA PASS application is missing a Match code. The exact same thing happened to me. I emailed ADEA PASS immediately and sent them screenshots. Glad to hear I'm not the only one.

Would anyone with a UNC interview date of October 5–6 be willing to switch for a date of October 6–7? I would be very grateful if someone is open to exchanging dates. Please feel free to message me directly if interested.

I am also trying to find the same information. From what I see here, they have been calling and probably started yesterday. I know they call about 40 applicants for interviews in groups of two (20 each), with social on the first night.

Does anyone have more details about Rochester invites? Any additional information.
When is the interview? Did they invite domestic or international students or both?

For candidates receiving multiple interview invites, how will you rank the programs? Would it be strategic to rank the schools you feel good after doing interviews higher or go with your top choices regardless of how you feel about the interviews? My mentor thought he did well in an interview at a specific program just to match to a different program that he ranked lower.

Anyone with an Oregon Health & Sciences University 10/10 interview date open to swapping for a 10/13 interview date? Thank you - feel free to shoot me a message directly!

Hi all! I was wondering if anyone with a UNC interview would be open to switching interview dates with me.

I’m scheduled for the Social on Oct 6 + Interview on Oct 7, and I’m hoping to swap with someone who has the Social on Oct 5 + Interview on Oct 6.

Please DM me if you’d be interested — I’d really appreciate it!

I heard from them on 9/2. interview offer was oct 3rd with social on oct 2nd.
Thank you! Do you know if they are on a rolling interview basis? I feel like I've heard multiple interview dates and emails we they sent invites out.

I still haven't received any interviews. Is it safe to say that I need to start preparing to re-apply for next cycle?

there are still many schools that have not sent out invites yet. if these include schools that you have chosen, there's still hope

Do programs filter applications based on a few criteria to weed out applications? For example, GPA or rank? or is the GRE more relevant?

I would start worrying if you don’t get one by the end of next week, towards the end of this month. Once October rolls around, the schools are interviewing candidates and early November, the candidates are ranking the schools and the schools are ranking the candidates.

Does anybody find this cycle to be surprising? In the sense that schools you thought you would receive interview offers from have not sent you an invite, but schools you thought no way ended up giving you an interview? Very interesting for me so far.

Do programs filter applications based on a few criteria to weed out applications? For example, GPA or rank? or is the GRE more relevant?
Because schools get hundreds of applications they usually do a big initial cut based upon specific criteria that the school values because it would be unrealistic to look at every application. Most of the time the criteria is rank and gpa. Most school you just need to do average on gre to make the cut. If you went to a p/f school then gre matters more. Theres only one school I know that really cares about gre.

I think the most frustrating part, besides all the money and time I spent, is that I genuinely thought the schools actually looked over every application based on the due date. That’s my fault for being unaware that they have already decided based on who submitted the earliest. I didn’t have all the money to submit all the applications at once so I submitted based on the due dates and now I know that was a mistake. Just wish it wasn’t a full year worth of a mistake. At that point just communicate that it’s practically rolling admissions and they’re all due early June.

Is this information confirmed? I do know certain schools only pull from ADEA after the deadline. I applied quite close to the deadline (by a few days).

Look at the interview days for almost all of the programs already listed. They’re a few days after the application deadline. So I noticed they’d take my money for the supplemental fees and never confirm the application. Now that I found this thread I realize they have pretty much all but made their mind up by the time I’m finished paying.

As someone who applied May 29th and has watched ten of the programs I applied to send out interviews without a word from them, I don't think it's fair to say the timing is everything

I think it largely depends on the program. For example, I submitted very last second (July 30th) since I couldn’t take the GRE until July 29th, and I’ve still heard back from schools. I know the program director at my school actually waits until the deadline day to review all the applications because he believes it’s only fair that way. That said, he also mentioned this has been a very competitive year, with around a hundred more applications than the last couple of years, so it might feel tougher across the board.

I don't believe it's rolling/based on timing. I applied at the end of July/early August. I also applied based on the due date. bc I was waiting on my recommenders, and I confirmed with all the schools that they start looking after the deadline

It is definitely not the only important thing. And I’m just overall incredibly disappointed of course. But it’s just not possible to see the interview dates being sent 2 days after the applications close and not question the fact it’s not possible to review applications on or close to

Your director is a good person for that. But it’s also apparent based on many interview dates being sent within just a few days that many programs don’t. And overall, yes it’s just a little disappointing so I hope the rest of these next 2 weeks is better.
