Yes, called certiphi and they said I'm not in their system. They said to call AAMC, I haven't done it yet though.

Certiphi's been delaying my background check because, first, it said it needed my DOB. It was listed in the application. Today they emailed me saying they still couldn't do the check because they need to know what my sex is.

My credit card company could've done a better job, considering they have my name, social, address, etc. My view of them being super sly detectives has taken a hit!

I used to play that as a junior in high school 7 years ago. That game is too old lol
lolllll i know i used to play it back in the day too but i just recently downloaded it again, and i've fallen in love with it! hahaha so addicting. i suggest starting again and you'll see what i mean:smug:

"Dear Applicant,

The below email was sent approximately 5 days ago, and our records do not indicate that you have completed the Permissions & Disclosure. Your prompt attention to this matter is greatly appreciated."

That moment when I never received that first email. 😵

Yeah I think there's something wrong with their server or something. I called them on the 9th to ask where my email was and they said they sent it on the 3rd, even though I never got it.

Same exact situation here. I'm guessing UVA hasn't requested background checks yet.
Not to freak you out or anything, but UVA is the only school I've been accepted to so far (accepted mid-December) and I received my background check email yesterday.

Am I the only one who hasn't done financial aid stuff? I keep telling myself I need to do it and then keep putting it off lol.
You should just get it out of the way, the FAFSA is actually pretty quick to fill out. At one interview they told us we should get FAFSAs in ASAP.

Is there anyone else who hasn't received the Certiphi email yet? I've called Certiphi who told me to check with AAMC. AAMC told me that I should get something by the end of the week (called Tuesday). Nothing so far :wtf:

It just depends on the school that you have an acceptance with. Some don't have it sent out until later. I would wait about another month before you start to worry.

Guys I received my first MD acceptance today. After my third cycle. I just can't actually believe it. I've only cried like three times today
hearing stories like yours really inspire me. congrats on your acceptance, truly well deserved. revel in the glory!!

So your boy is planning to buy a new laptop pretty soon and I have been looking at the new macbook pros. Do yall think 256GB of storage is enough for all med school stuff? Or should i fork over the extra 200 bucks for 512GB?? Any input would be appreciated! Congratulations to those who were just recently accepted!!

I would go for the 512....unless you want to purchase a separate external hard drive to keep all your movies music pictures etc.....

I've had the 256 gb for the past 3 years or so. It's been sufficient. I have to move things, like old files and large photo folders, to an external hard drive once in a while when I near capacity. And I have to delete most of my movies and shows or transfer them when I'm done watching but I never plan on rewatching most of them anyways so that's not a problem for me. If you can live with those compromises than you should be good with 256.

Hello everyone!! So happy to finally be able to join this thread😀!

I love school supplies, so I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for agendas/planners, pens, pencils, etc. I am especially interested in what people suggest for agendas since I need one to stay organized, but I wonder if med students have found one particular planner most effective.

Welcome! I'm not a med student, but I swear by my planner. It's by Day Designer (certain designs sold at Target stores). I have one of the larger ones. For each month there's a one-page calendar view and a whole page to write a a to-do list, shopping list, and important contact info for that month. Then there are two pages per month reserved for writing out more detailed schedules for each day. There are also a lot of cool additional features in the back of the planner. In short, I LOVE the thing and highly recommend the brand.

Personally I have had a 256 for four years with no external hard drive and I have had no issues! I feel like I have a lot of crap files on mine too but I've barely used a quarter of the capacity. Honestly I would like a the new MBP with touchbar and because I have the really old one with the CD drive but I can't justify it because mine still works so well.

yeahhh I went with the 256 MacBook Air (200 bucks off at Best Buy so $999) as I couldn't justify spending the extra $500 for the new MBP since the only real +1 is the Retina display. but I figure no need for Retina display to read power points and watch lectures lol

So I stumbled across "bullet journaling" on youtube one day and have become obsessed. You should check it out!

I got a 13' MacBook air with 128GB of storage and I love it. It is more than enough storage for me, plus I have basically unlimited storage on the Cloud. I think if you are mainly using the computer for word/powerpoint/excel files the extra storage would kind of be a waste of money because you can put everything on the Cloud. If you enjoyed playing a lot of games or wanted to store your movie collection on your laptop 128GB of storage wouldn't be enough. Not sure about what the MacBook Pros use for memory but I liked that the Air uses flash memory (as opposed to a hard drive). If you buy your laptop directly from the Apple store tell them you are a student and they will give you a discount (I think 5-10%). I didn't even have a student ID or anything, I just said I was getting it for medical school and they added on the discount.

and make Anki decks. 🙂

Also did you guys know that the specs on the cheapest iMac are identical to those of a Macbook Air? 😵

I wish I could afford an iMac and Macbook, but I am going to 'settle' for an Air with external monitor.

In regard to the retina display, I don't know about you guys, but I can't even tell the difference...maybe because I'm getting older. I didn't even know that my iPad had a retina display (it looks no different than my crappy PC laptop, to me).

@MeltingIceCube Remember what it was like to have a fully dedicated laptop only operate on 2 gigs of RAM because of hardware limitations? And Windows Vista only able to use a maximum of 3.3 gigs of RAM because of its own operating system limitations? I had serious lag issues with Firefox at times when I had more than three tabs open. It's funny how we approach this question of information processing and school computers at a time when we have tablets outperform what used to be netbooks back in 2007 with much better execution and design philosophy.

This is brilliant. It makes you think about how we live in a culture where the best of the best, in terms of tech, is expected (and desired) even when it is not needed. My iPad still floors me when I take the time to think about it, but I still question whether or not I am making a HUGE mistake by not buying the latest and greatest. But at the end of the day, I have survived prior schooling with much, much less.

I just bought the new macbook pro with touch bar (256 GB) and I think the space will be plenty. If not, I have an external hard drive to store stuff I don't need on my laptop. It was the biggest "treat yo self" moment in my whole life, but it's pretty and I love it.
