Also the more I think bout medical school the more I worry about my mental health coming from it. I never been depressed all my life and see myself being able to handle these issues well but I have a gut feeling/even dreams that this might change in medical school. My culture also dont view depression as a real thing so thats a extra worry. So I am planning on seeing the school counselor once every 2 weeks when school starts just to talk about what I am going through even when im not feeling stressed/down also to talk about non academic and personal related stuff . Dont know how feasible this will be and how confidential these discussions will be but thats plan come august

This type of plan should be mandatory at all schools! Not only would it prevent many mental health issues before they become overwhelming, but it would also erase a lot of concerns about stigma and lack of confidentiality, which seem to be increasingly significant problems in the medical community. I might propose something similar at my school, something like a mandatory once-a-month counselor meeting, or some sort of opt-out counseling policy.

i literally just wrote a final paper on how medical schools should have guaranteed coverage of X sessions with a therapist/counselor.

i also plan to seek out help pre-emptively and i think there is absolutely nothign wrong with that. i've never had any serious mental health issues in my life. But two years ago i had my first panic attack, and the experience and my emotional handling of the situation after that was poor. there is absolutely nothing wrong with realizing that you deserve to learn some positive interventions and coping skills for when the going does eventually get tough (even if its not until residency or beyond)

the physician depression, suicide and burnout rates are something that should not be taken lightly at all.

I finished all of my immunization s for one school and then got pulled off of a waitlist last week that had completely different requirements. I've given so much blood recently so I feel your pain
Holy crap that's awful. I was in a similar situation but got pulled of the WL before my apt. Thankfully it's my top choice and I can be done with this WL limbo bussiness

I need to get on that but I'm afraid they'll hate me since I started like a year ago
I told them a few weeks ago. I haven't even been working here a year. It makes the transition easier the earlier they know. Everyone understands, people our ages are always moving onto bigger opportunities.

I was gonna do that but I read the employee handbook and it says that they can terminate my employment at any time after I declare that I'll be living. I'm planning on leaving early June so I'm afraid that if i tell them now, they'll be like Get the F out 🤔 and I'd miss out on 2 paychecks (which is about 3k, I do not wanna give up on 3k).

Yeah, I fretted about that since November, when I knew I was leaving. That's why I waited until now.
It's a difficult balance I think, but you don't want to blind side them too much. They won't fire you because you're leaving, they'll fire you if you f*** around and don't do your job well because you know you're leaving. I wouldn't worry too much about that. Also, they won't boot you with a month left.

You're right, I do think that if they fire me, they'd be shooting themselves in the foot since that not only would leave them understaffed but they'd also have to rush the hiring and training of a new employee. However, I still believe that it'd leave a sour taste because the employee that I replaced also left for medical school after about a year lol.

I'm sure that you'll be ok. They know that you're going to med school and assuming you mentioned that you're applying when you interviewed, they're expecting your leave. I left after seven months but gave my manager a month's notice. We're still on good terms and I'll be hanging out with her and my other coworkers next week to celebrate my med school acceptance.

Haha, that's unfortunate. But it's a pretty common occurrence in entry-level science/clinical jobs.

Ever have those days when you feel like your whole job is a lunch break?

On slow days, that's exactly how I feel! I start at 6 AM, I'm in the break room for 20 minutes at a time 3 or 4 times during the morning sipping on coffee and eating snacks before I go on a 1.5 hr lunch break at 12:00 and nobody cares lol. My supervisor even told me that it's better to be in the break room doing nothing than in the lab doing nothing when I'm not assigned a project.

Omg where did you work? I was an MA and I only had 20 minutes for lunch and worked 10+ hr shifts (happy I'm not there anymore lol)

I'm a research tech. It's cushy and whatnot, but the slow times are awful. I guess we're all in the same boat though.

Oh man, kindred spirits are us. Oh well, we're still getting paid I guess.

I'm so excited for school to start. Are any of you going to get pets? I think I'm finally going to get my doggo who's been living with my mom for a while I can't wait.

My wife and I have 3 little pups. We are a little worried about the prospects of moving, haha.

What kind of dog?

I'm taking my kitty with me 🙂 I'm a little worried about how he will adjust to a new environment. I couldn't imagine myself without him though!

Aww I'm so jealous you guys are bringing your cats! Mine is still staying with my mom, haven't been able to find an affordable pet-friendly apartment yet 🙁

I'm sorry girl 🙁 it was a tough decision for me and I definitely thought about leaving him home since my parents are so close to him. But I ultimately know I'll be happier with him with me. And I think he'll be happier with me too because my fam says when I'm gone, he misses me lol

Question about immunizations. Do I really need the varicella vaccine if I already had the chicken pox? I'm asking because my GP said they can do all my other required vaccines expect for that one as they don't have it in their office (weirdly). I would prefer to not have to go to an additional doctor for only one shot.

easy - just go to a chicken pox party.

My school said they want the lab work of a positive titer to prove that you had the virus in the past

Getting titers on Friday. /pray that I don't have inconclusive results for every vaccine under the sun like last time.

Like seriously I've gotten the mmr and hep b vaccines more than a normal amount of times in my life.

I just got my MMR titer last week. If it's low how long do you have to wait before doing another titer?
