Reading it in a different format gets your brain to actually look at it instead of autocorrecting the mistakes.
 
ready to press submit! excited but also so nervous... very weird and nerve wracking that after so much stress and preparation, soon it will be mostly out of our hands.

not looking forward to the year of anxious waiting!

I have looked over it, I have had my wife look over it, and I have had a couple of SDN friends look at it...each time we find little formatting issues!

Stress free from June 1st to June 15th when you get a couple of secondaries, then AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH in a month.

At some point you have to just let it go. It's the same with writing. There are always things you could change, but at some point you have to say that perfect is the enemy of good and send it out into the world.

Well, I noticed I have “Pursuit if knowledge” twice in back to back sentences. That is pretty lame. That time to cease perfection is tomorrow at 8PM lol

As someone who legitimately completed secondaries for 20+ schools, one thing that helps is that many schools have very similar secondaries. So after a while it became a bit of routine: 1. copy/paste, 2. edit for school- specific details or word/character count, 3. look over make sure it's right school and prompt, 4. Submit.

I don’t plan on copy paste, but have my “template” up side by side for reference so I can adjust course with character counts, mission statements etc.

This is true. I've already prewritten >20 and it does get easier the more you do. Some questions are recycled and/or don't really require any school-specific details. But some secondaries are harder than others and ask for unique and school-specific things.

What are some of the more ‘fun’ or unique and school specific secondary topics?

Only thing I have encountered is not for a secondary but a scholarship that asks for “8 unique facts about yourself” and to make a video about teaching something lol

There are some fun ones! I think USC wins overall (so far, at least): What is the most fun you’ve had lately? What would your nickname be? Where would you give your money if you had enormous wealth? Etc.

Most secondaries are not fun though. I especially hate “why this school?”

I've heard Duke and Miami's secondaries are "fun."

I hope your cycle is different than mine. I prewrote all my secondaries, and literally all but one of them changed and were different enough that I needed to totally rewrite everything.

I'm only prewriting the ones that haven't changed in the last ~3 years... either way, I think it's been helpful to get my ideas down.

Hopkins’ was just bad because they essentially required you to fill out another primary just for them.

Good thing I am absolutely not forcing my family to live in Baltimore so Hopkins isn’t on my list!

Although UCSD sounds fun, though low OOS...

I would be happy with an autobio - my PS is not autobiographical in the slightest. My entire PS is 5300 characters about a series of events that took place over the course of a few weeks. Is that rare enough to be completely abnormal? I guess I haven't seen any PS like that in all that I have edited...

What did y'all do for an autobio that is basically another PS?

Very, very low OOS. Don't even bother if you're not from there. I lived in Cali for 5 years while stationed there IN San Diego, and I still got the R.

It's difficult when you're very non-trad. They want you to start from the beginning. 5300 characters is not a lot when you have to go through 35 years.

What about cramming 35 years of life experiences into a 24 year old's life? LOL Yah, I can imagine the difficulty. That is unfortunate though, stationed there 5 years and still no love?

Ugh applying early is less "GOGOGO" and more "I keep refreshing my email and nothing is happening." The antsy-ness of anticipating submission has now transferred to the antsy-ness of wanting to see some damn secondaries.

It's the same thing with the 'close doors' button on the elevator. It does nothing, but is so satisfying to push. I am using the time to work on my Knight-Hennessy scholarship application, study for finals, and go on a road trip lol

Somebody pinch me. Time to throw our hats in the ring. Got goosebumps now. So excited. It’s our year y’all. We made it past all the weed outs. Prereqs, MCAT, and ECs. So many of my friends and acquaintances didn’t make it. It’s an honor to be here and apply for medical school. Remember all the adversity, the relationships, and hard work over the years. Go in with your head held high. We got this.

I believe as long as you're in the first 2 weeks you are in the first batch of apps. They won't start looking at apps until July and don't look at apps in chronological order anyways.
 
Is it typical for schools to have multiple secondary essay prompts? The first school I'm looking at now has like 3-4 mandatory prompts.

These next two weeks will be madness.
