How many do they usually accept? Do they have a waitlist? How many are on it?•••••650 interviewed at harvard this year for the 165 spots....they accept about 225 applicants....they do have waitlist...i don't know much about it...good luck..

Synthesizing information from a few sources (and trying to remember off the top of my head): Harvard interviewed around 650. They admit about 240 (I think that includes HST) and I think I heard that 2/3 of those interviewed are either accepted or waitlisted. So, I think that makes the waitlist around 200. If anyone else knows differently, please correct me. Hope this helps!

called today. the guy told me that all decisions were being sent out tomorrow (this friday). i guess that means we'll all hear by monday or tuesday. on my interview day, the guy said that 1/3 would get accepted/waitlisted. from what i've heard, very few are waitlisted, and of those waitlisted, there is a lot of movement (percentage-wise)mostly because accepted HST applicants also get into NP and can't hold onto both acceptances. also, i was told that they lost most of their applicants to UCSF.

so...
do you believe in miracles???

Hmm I think its time for me to stop having those fantasies about moving to Boston this summer

Does anyone know if they are sending email notification too today? Or are they just sending out snail mail?

Good luck all!

What we know in a nutshelll...

BME02: HST letters sent 3/13

Retroman: Friend received pre-interview rejection 3/25 in Boston MA (letter created 3/22, post marked 3/25) Not clear if HST or NP.

bjc: Both rejection and acceptance will come in small envelope.

Jo: Called HMS on 3/25 and they said NP decisions would come out 3/29. No e-mails. No phone calls.

la9s: Called HMS on 3/26 and they said "Oh, actually, some decisions have been mailed today (3/26). We are not sending them all out at once, but in batches. And we hope to send them all out by the end of the week." So I said, "I read that some people had received decisions already." He said, "No, I don't think that's right." (Though I think he may have just been discounting the pre-interview rejections) [most likely as per Retroman's info]. So I said (and here, I officially become ridiculous, I warn you), "Just to be completely clear: are you sending them out alphabetically?" He said, "Yes, but they are in big batches."

E'01: 3/27 pre-interview rejection. (snail mail, last name begins with E)

akikis: 3/28 pre-secondary rejection.

choker: Called HMS 3/28 they said all decisions would be mailed on 3/29.

nerf: STILL NO MAIL! 3/29

Got rejected by mail today, just to keep you all informed.

I just saw on another thread that Dr. L's was pre-interview. It looks like no one has received any post-interview news yet for NP.

In case you want to know, straight from the Dean of Admissions mouth, all post-interview decisions are being sent today 3/29

LilMissDrDoolittle,
Just wondering, did you speak with Dean Jules Dienstag or Dean Theresa Orr? And are they sending it priority mail? :)

Damn, this suspense is killing me. I wonder if the letter will be in my mailbox tomorrow because I live in Cambridge.

fyi

i got the letter from harvard today...waitlisted...unlike what i was told it wasn't a thin envelope...it was a big envelope...financial aid forms etc...probably specific to waitlisted applicants...anyone else hear anything?

Damn, i can't wait to find out myself....i live out in CA, but i've only been waiting since the begining of March, hehehe.

Javi

does anyone know approx. how many applicants are waitlisted and of them how many are accepted? damn, now i have to keep waiting till the begining of june ...is that right?....

I got in Harvard!!!! Holy ****!!!!! Unbelievable!!! I'm numb with happiness.

I knew that the letters were sent on Friday, and I saw the mailman deliver the mail to my dorm this morning (Sat), but since it's spring break, no one was there to sort the mail. So an hour ago, I persuaded the security guard to let me into the mailroom and search through boxes and boxes of mail. I was looking for the damn elusive thin envelopes but couldn't find any addressed to me even though I found some to my fellow applicants. I almost quit but accidentally saw a THICK envelope for me!!! And I got in! Wow. Talking about luck... :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

By the way, you gonna stay on the waitlist at HST or turn it down?

Small letter from the big H = NO LOVE :D

Post-interview rejections from both NP and HST!

Wow! Letter says that I *may* be disappointed so
I'm going to gnash my teeth in pain and weep till blood rivulets flow out of my eyes

CONGRATULATIONS to those who made the cut and if you didn't, keep yer chin up, k?

a*gal

Oh man... Congrats Cdc28p!! :D Truly a happy day for you, and it's so funny what you did to find out (I would have searched the local sorting office even  )

Do you think all acceptances are being sent in a large envelope in spite of what they said about expecting a small envelope either way? By thick envelope do ya mean 8 by 4 size? :)

But with the deadline for financial aid applications approaching so soon, I think Harvard will break from their tradition and include financial aid stuff along with your acceptance or waitlist letter; hence, big envelopes.

congrats CDC!

congrats cdc!!!!!!

Cdc,

Congratulations. Not that I want to jinx my application, but did they mention when second look weekend is?

Congrats CDC, that's awesome!

Now I'm really really really anxious for the mail to get here...hoping for a thick envelope! Bummer, now hopes will be dashed before I even open the envelope now that I know that thick envelope = good and thin = bad :(

Here's hoping for thick :)

i solved a rubik's cube during my harvard interview. my interviewer went nuts.

let's see if that pulls through.
it's funny_ anyone ever see hellraiser? it's about a cube puzzle that, when solved, opens the gates of hell and summons these demons to drag you down and rip your flesh off and torture you for eternity. (really really great movie_btw)

so that cube gets you into hell, maybe this cube will get me into harvard...

Hey, Dr. Choker! I think the cube will definately be worth bonus points. I, on the other hand, basically told my faculty interviewer that I was an alcoholic ...wonder if I get bonus points for that? Hmmmm...maybe he will just let that one pass. Hate those stressful interviews, especially when they say that they WON'T be stressful, got caught off guard.

Anyway, I apparantly am super-paranoid, every time this thread jumps to the top of the page, I click on it instantly...wishing I was home so I could camp out by the mailbox. I don't get home until 10:30 at night! Too long to wait...

nine-sixteen....how the hell did you manage to do that? hahaha...did you burp up Jack and Coke or something?

Choker - Yea..i saw hell raiser..clivebarker is my favorite author! That would be awesome choker. Good luck there :)

•••quote:•••Originally posted by Scooby Doo:

•••••The interviewer took me through a clinical scenario and talked about a 35 year old mother of three who got wasted and passed out. I wasn't really picking up on the fact that he wanted me to realize that she is an alcoholic, so he asked me (in retrospect, this was a rhetorical question) "When was the last time YOU got so drunk you passed out?" Me: "Oh, in college" He looks at me inquisitivly. What I am thinking, "Oh my god, did I just say that??" So then I try to cover it up by talking about my years living in New Orleans and seeing all sorts of crazy things with alcohol and before I could say that these things were OTHER people and I never passed out in New Orleans, he interjects with "So, you drank heavily in your very recent past?" I just sort of pled the fifth at that point and stuck with my original answer...not the best interview I've had, but hopefully not the death of me, either :)

my friend had that same interviewer and got that SAME QUESTION!!!

well he actually figured out that she was an alcoholic _ the interviewer was really surprised and impressed that he got it, but he was still rejected on saturday.

oh well_ but he didn't solve a rubik's cube.

Got the thin envelope today (post interview). :( :( :(

I guess this is my last post in this thread. It's been fun everyone!! Good luck to all who are still waiting for that mailtruck.
