Yeah some medical students are d***s for no reason. Its funny actually. Picking on premeds. Haters gonna hate.
Yeah, some people think the pre-meds should kiss their butts. Not even Bill Gates looks down at people.

@sinombre and @Cyberdyne 101 I cry...SOA final episode :arghh:

@J Senpai I went back to bodybuilding, I just couldn't be a Beta (runner). Some people told me I could still do Muay Thai and BJJ as a big dude.

I've started rock climbing...somehow I never feel like I'm working out until I realize I'm covered in sweat and none of my muscles work anymore. Then I try to do simple things like eating and find out that there are muscles I never knew I had which have decided to stop working!

That's awesome! 😉 Sometimes workouts shouldn't feel like they are a torture, they can be fun too.

BJJ definitely. Most Muay Thai fighters are smallish, but you should give it a go for sure.

I love the fact that SOA was based on Hamlet. But somehow, they they decided to cap it off with the New Testament 😵

I did enjoy the finale. Although, I still have mixed feelings about the 7th season. It was missing a principal antagonist IMO. Perhaps Clay was killed off too soon?! Or maybe, they should have ended the show in season 6?!

What do you think?!

I think eventually the show's decisions played out nicely. Clay's death was just right. I still don't get why Happy had to get shot in the forearm, though. Do you know why?

He got shot in the forearm because the club had to act as if they tried to kill Jax. Otherwise, it wouldn't have legitimacy with the other MC's. My friend actually thinks that "a death by the club" would have been more appropriate.

The episode definitely tied a lot of loose ends. And I agree that Clay's death happened in the right context. I was just kinda eh about the perpetual killing spree that composed most of the 7th season. But then again, it's understandable given Gemma's actions. For me, the season actually picked up when Abel became aware of his grandmother's crime.

Hey peeps, I'm currently in California. 😀 What are good spots to hit up in Los Angeles and San Francisco area?
eclectic-artwork.jpg

I know that for sure along with having a workout at The Mecca (Gold's gym at Venice beach).
Golden Gate bridge is a must (obviously). If you like music make sure to see if any bands are playing in either city; there is always music happening.
Are you trying to get laid? Go to a club?

@The Buff OP Is it normal to want to eat a lot more when you start making gains? I noticed that I'm starting to gain a lot of muscle and I eat twice as much. I'm not geeting fat so I'm thinking this is normal?

I want to eventually get back into WoW. Maybe during my gap year following the app cycle.

Any Horde on here?

I play both; I'd roll a character with you, J. 😀

I only subscribe when I have the time to make my subscription worth it. Like now. I'm on break, so I can play it a lot.

Yeah, dude, it's normal. You will get super hungry after workouts for sure.

I'm not really a club guy and I'm here with family so I can't really go out looking for hunnies. Golden gate for sure, then think about if I should jump jk 😛. Gonna go to Hollywood today. 👍

Heeey I'm going to Cali for the holiday too! I'll be in LA and San Diego. Should I check out UCLA and UCSD?

Wow, it took me a while to finally find the thread where you can post non-medical related stuff. (Technically I became an SDN member in 2012, but haven't actively been on forums until now.) I think I'm going to hang around this thread for a long time. 🙂

Unless you can get a tour scheduled, then yeah.
In that case, I'll pass. 😛 I'm leaving tomorrow, and there probably won't be time to squeeze that in a bunch of other stuff my family wants to do. I'm super stoked for Disneyland and Universal Studios (never been there before). Anyone who's been is free to suggest sites and rides I should try out.

**** I wished I would of have enough to go to those places. I haven't gone in a while to those places, but at Universal Studios has this show called Water World and this Back to the Future ride that are pretty cool.

Sorry I didn't respond to this earlier, I didn't watch any of the new season until I was finished with finals. I'm a little surprised at the ending tbh, I thought it would be more tragic. I still think Opie was the best character, haha

Also, making a late night post. That's what taking a nap during the afternoon after too much day drinking gets you 🙄

Does anyone own an Xbox One and/or a PS 4? If so, how are the games, features, perks, etc?
Honestly, neither system really calls to me. I'm not really a Call of Duty type of person. I'd be much more content with a WiiU and some Smash Bros, Mario Kart, and Bayonetta.

If i had to choose between the 2, go with whichever one's cheaper.

I love the Halo and Gears games, so I'm leaning toward the Xbox. I just asked in case someone offered a super compelling reason to get a PS 4. Also, I won't have much time for games in the near future anyway. But playing a shooter and/or racing game from time to time won't hurt 😎

I know, who has time for games these days. I've got a ton of games just collecting dust because i didn't have the time to play them. I'd get a PS4 if you were deciding between the two, as it probably has a more diverse set of games to choose from. But if Halo and Gears is your kind of thing, i guess you can't go wrong with an Xbox

I'm nearing the end of 2nd year. It's not terrible. I thought it was at first, but I got used to it. Taking step 1 in early June so that should be fun. Also entering my first powerlifting meet this year. When are you applying to med school?

Nice, bro, nice! I had got into power bodybuilding a while back and my strength was awesome, I think I should get back into it. No matter how hard I try to drop my body size I don't shrink (I get kinda sad when clothes doesn't fit me), so I guess I should embrace my mass.😳😉

Are you in the 1000 club?

****, bro, I'm 23 at the moment and I think I will apply when I'm like 28-29. Non-trad is the best way for me.:horns:

Edit: What school you go to?

You have to embrace your mass, otherwise they'll make you change your username.

I started lifting kind of late, I was about 23, and I'm 26 now. I was really skinny when I started, about 140ish pounds at 5'10, and I'm about 180-185 now. I'm just under 1000, but should hit it by the end of January, and I'm hoping I can break 1200 by the time I graduate med school. So I still have a very long way to go before I'm "strong" for my size, but I've definitely progressed a lot over the past couple of years, and it's a really fun hobby. I'm finishing building a garage gym right now, which I'll be done with soon (so I can keep lifting throughout 3rd/4th year and residency).

Plenty of my classmates were in their late 20s when they started (and I was 25). I fully support taking time off before applying.

I go to a school in CA (trying to stay somewhat anonymous at least until I'm done with med school). This is the last break I get until I take step 1 in June so I'm trying to enjoy it as much as possible. I'm done with SOA so I guess I'll have to find a new show to binge watch over the next week.

So far, what specialties do you have in mind, brah?

I started watching Parks and Recreation, it's not bad. If I had to guess, I think you got to a UC school. 😛

How much of a sacrifice do you make to stay in shape while in med school, and how good do you have to be with your time? I probably a have a pretty similar build, 5'10", 145ish is my equilibrium. I've bulked up to about 170 while staying lean, but it requires effort pretty much every day. I know I'm awful with time management, so I worry I'll just let it slide once I get really busy.

Med school is a huge adjustment for most people. I wasn't great with time management before starting, but you kind of have no choice once the pace picks up and you realize you can't afford to fall behind. It took me probably about 6 months before I really got used to the pace, and after the first 3 months of school I pretty much stopped lifting completely and lost about 20 pounds (I was also sick for about a month and a half which didn't help).

Once you figure out how much time you need to allocate to studying it becomes much easier to manage your time and do things non-school related. It wasn't hard at all for me to spend ~2 hours a day lifting once I adjusted, except maybe the week or two before a final. Second year of med school is significantly busier, but at that point you've had an entire year to figure everything out, so in a lot of ways it's actually easier to work out during second year.

Another factor equally as important is how much you enjoy lifting. I find it extremely enjoyable, so it's much easier for me to find time than it would be if I viewed it as more of a chore or something I had to do.

tl;dr - how good you are with time management will change once you start med school because you'll have no choice. Once you adapt (and you will, everyone does), it's not a sacrifice to find the time to work out assuming you actually enjoy doing it.

3rd year will be a huge challenge, but by that time I'll have a garage gym which will make sticking to a schedule much more likely. No lines, I can lift whenever I want, I can play my own music, use chalk (most school gyms seem to have 'no chalk' policies), and won't have any other arbitrary commercial gym rules to follow.

I'm interested in surgery, but I'm keeping an open mind. Many, if not most, people change their minds about which specialty they want to pursue during 3rd year (so I've been told). I have a hard time imagining myself doing anything else, but we'll see.

I haven't seen Parks and Recreation, but maybe I'll give it a chance.

Parks and Rec always seemed to appeal to the same group that enjoyed Arrested Development, so I avoided it.

I can't imagine not keeping up with an exercise schedule while in school. I would lose my sheet a week in if I couldn't work out. Then again, it's something I've worked into my routine for years at this point.

I can't do the 'fun' stuff due to injuries/surgery, but I'm 5'10 and ~170 right now. Hoping to lean out a bit and hit 175 on a slower bulk so I can keep BF relatively constant then cut down slowly so I don't lose mass.

I can't squat or deadlift, so the last few months have essentially been spent looking for workarounds. I realized that I can do hex bar deads, so that was pretty rad.

I'm hoping to spend the time between now and when I leave my job to see how ridiculous I can get. I just don't want to have to buy an entirely new wardrobe lol.

But Arrested Development is also awesome. Parks and Recreation does share more similarities with The Office though, with the exception of being funny.

I watched a whole season of Arrested Development before I finally gave up on it ever becoming funny rather than painful. It was like Will Farrell movies, which I also can't deal with...too much of the humor depends on finding stupidity funny, and I don't.

Same here, brah. Surgey is what I'm mostly interested in, maybe EM or interventional Cards if I would were to go the medicine side. I mainly would like to do procedures (surgeries, cath tubes, etc). I'm currently in wine country, it's pretty chill. 🙂

What supps do you take?
