how does waitlisting work. If I get waitlisted at UTMB during the match, do I still get to keep the TCOM seat?
Yes, you may stay on any school’s waitlist after Match Day. You must be offered WL status by the school (usually in email). You will be offered WL spots only by schools you had ranked higher than the school you matched to.
IF you get offered a spot after you have been on a WL later, you DO NOT HAVE TO take it. Switching from a matched school to a WL school must be your deliberate decision, you should consider carefully, and you must inform both schools yourself.
Remember - these are TMDSAS rules for Texas applicants.
OOS applicants can be on WLs too but might also be juggling other OOS schools. For questions on that, go to the AMCAS questions thread.

This is a really silly question, but I am unsure so please bear with me. I prematched at UTMB and TCOM. UTMB is my first choice and will rank it as 1 and TCOM as 2 on TMDSAS. During the match day, is it guaranteed that I will match UTMB since I did get a prematch offer from them that I accepted?

If you rank UTMB as #1 when you already hold a prematch, you will match to UTMB and TCOM will be dropped since you ranked it below a school you already hold a prematch to.

I would recommend watching this 5 minute video published by TMDSAS that explains the whole process thoroughly and provides examples of different cases. If you’re short on time, skip to 1:30

Also, if you're already completely sure that you want to attend UTMB over TCOM, you can go ahead and drop the TCOM prematch offer on TMDSAS under "Prematch offer withdrawal".

Will the school I rank as #1 know which schools I ranked below them?

I believe they will just see the students who match to them via the TMDSAS Match process.
After Match Day, they may go through their list of interviewed students and offer some students they would like to enroll, but who didn't match to their school, a chance on their Wait List.
Let's say you ranked a school #1 but matched to your #3 ranked school. Then the schools you had ranked lower will be out of the running, but you could be offered and accept a spot on the WL at your #1 and #2.
Later on if you are called up from a WL, you do not HAVE TO take the offer, you may accept or decline.

Hi! On the ranking page there is the little button that says "save and submit your preferences", if I rank the schools right now and click that button (so I don't forget closer to the deadline), are my ranks locked in and permanent? Or if I chose to change the order before the deadline, can I go in and rerank my schools? Thank you for the help!

Since I'm not an applicant, I can't see exactly how that ranking page looks to those of you who are logged in. I'll see what I can find out.

In the meantime, make a list on an attractive notecard or paper. What an antique idea!

Thank you so much for looking into it for me!

I've clicked it already, you can change it up until the deadline

Hello! I was wondering if calling schools PRE-II for a status update/to express interest would be okay?

If you have an update (new grades, new research or publication, new award) you should send it as an e-mail or on their portal, as each school prefers. Calling won't help your case.

What are your chances of matching if you haven't prematched? Or what is the number of people that do prematch? I interviewed at 6 schools but have not been accepted anywhere. I'm grateful to have even interviewed anywhere but I'm starting to worry I might have done poorly on my interviews. It feels like everyone I know has prematched but it's probably confirmation bias.
You have an excellent chance of matching with that many interviews. Remember also that some lucky guys have multiple prematch offers but can only end up matching to one.

Also is it really true that most TMDSAS acceptances are through the match? I feel like there have been so many prematches that the only way to match is through a seat opening up.

Also true! The schools have been pretty conservative with their pre-match offers this year for the most part. Also there are many Texans who have more than one pre-match offer and they can only end up matched to one, so their "unchosen" spots will be matched to someone else via the Match process.

@wysdoc

hi! not sure if you would know this but recently there has been some discussion about how the new Sam Houston DO school isn't interviewing people after the match rank deadline if they have interviewed at any other Texas schools

I was wondering if you know how the new UH Med school will work given it is set to open apps in February. Are interviews only going to go to people who do not have other interviews or acceptances? So if we get into a school we'd rank lower than UH, are we SOL?

I have seen that some SHSU applicants received such an email. It makes sense to me and they are free to set their interview schedule however they want. The situation is that some people have interviews after Jan 17 and as such they would not be able to rank SHSU but could still get rolling offers of admission after the Match day. I think this schedule irregularity will be sorted out next year when SHSU is on the same start and end schedule as the other TMDSAS schools.

Nobody knows when or if U of Houston will begin accepting applications, but if approved they would probably start up in February so definitely won't be on the normal Match cycle schedule at all this year. TCU/UNTHSC had a similar start time their first year and did lots of interviews between Feb and April I believe.

Ah okay thanks. I was just afraid there's some issue with TMDSAS where people who have Matched with a school are not able to get interviews from another school. If TCU/UNTHC were able to do so then I'm sure its fine! A bit reassuring, thanks!

TCU is on AMCAS application system, so the Match thing doesn’t apply. I was more referring to a school getting approved late in the season, and it can still hustle and get applicants interviewed.

Does anyone else here have 4+ interviews, but not a single prematch? I thought I did well at my interviews, but have no luck so far - starting to think I'm doing something wrong. This process is so long and stressful, and I really hope things work out on match day.

Do all prematches also include a letter being mailed to you? I prematched the Sam Houston last month but haven’t gotten anything and just want to make sure there’s nothing I’m missing out on doing.

It varies from school to school. Some notify you by email, some by mail, and some on the school portal.

I have interviewed at Lubbock on 12/20 and the school isnt showing up on my TMDSAS preference list. Who should I contact?

I’d give it another week. Maybe reach out next Friday. I’m sure there was a number to call in your interview invite email.

I'll call them for sure. It's just that my friend who interviewed with me, the school shows up on her list :-( i wonder if this means im just rejected

that’s not how it works. You should have the ability to rank the school, even if you aren’t high on their list so to speak. It seemed like it took a couple of weeks before they showed up on my rank list.

I will do that, thank you! I wonder if this might mean that I am just rejected though.
Most Texas schools don't do this, they will let Match Day sort things out. The only school that has sent out rejections recently sent them out to people who had not been invited for an interview. :luck:

At this point, schools that we have interviewed at no longer have a need to send pre-match offers and will let the match sort everything, right?

Yes. AMCAS schools can send rolling admissions offers and TMDSAS can still send offers to OOS applicants after Dec 31.
Pre-match offers for in-state TX applicants were supposed to be wrapped up by Dec 31.

Think carefully over any schools who interviewed you, and be sure to enter your rank order on the TMDSAS portal before Jan 17th 5pm deadline!

How long did it take to get the prematch after the interview?

I checked my PCR and it has all the pre reqs listed but it shows in the top left corner that the PCR has not been validated. Is this an issue?
My undergrad GPA doesn't need to be updated with Fall 2019/Spring 2020 grades since I graduated May 2019.

This type of very specific question is best asked to the TMDSAS staff directly. Log in to your portal and use the internal messaging function to ask. Their response time is prompt and you'll get your answer straight from the source!

This is going to be the stupidest question but when we rank it's like numerically - 1 2 3 4 5?

I laughed when I first read this but then I was paranoid.

Checked TMDSAS though, and it says the school you ranked "1" is your top choice.

Wish the TMDSAS website didn't look like it was made in 2005 lol. Paranoid that my list wasn't submitted even though I saved it multiple times. Good luck everyone!
Got the blue words at the top it was saved? It’s all good

I just went back to check my school rankings after submitting them last week and got a message saying:

"The deadline for entering or editing your school preference rankings has passed. Please return to this page after 8:00 AM on February 03, 2020 (Central Time) to view your match results."

It's not showing my rankings or the schools I ranked. Is that supposed to be the case?

Yes, after the deadline the page will go dark. That's why on TMDSAS pages, and on this page as well, we recommended that you screen-shot your final list so that when you got neurotic about whether you had done it or not, you would have the screenshot as proof.

If you submitted them any time before the deadline, they are in.

Super neurotic question (so I apologize now)...but if we didn’t submit our rank list our application would have instantly been withdrawn the second the deadline passed, correct?

I know I pressed submit, but I just have this anxiety that I didn’t and on match day my screen will be blank 😢
