*~*~*~*Official TMDSAS Questions Thread 2021-2022*~*~*~*

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Is there a thread for all the WL movement ?
Yes, we have what I call the Texas Roundup over on this thread: #145
It's just for fun because I post only what I see people share (or some send me a message to share their news to keep it anonymous).
It's clearly a non-scientific sample due to the voluntary news sharing and the fact that it's just SDN members.

Does anyone know if we need to send final spring transcripts to TMDSAS or just the medical school we are attending? Noticed that TMDSAS 2022 EY is closed, doesn't seem like I can access my status from it anymore.

If you have been accepted to a TMDSAS medical school, you should have your college send your final transcript directly to the medical school. Congratulations

Do Texas schools waitlist you if you are deficient in coursework on PCR? I was deemed deficient in my coursework on my PCR (even though I did technically have enough hours--TMDSAS just did not count all of my classes on my transcript), but I was still invited for an interview at McGovern. I just didn't think it was a big deal since I was invited for an interview, but now I'm wondering if it's too late to appeal decisions about coursework and if it would be required for me to be accepted off the waitlist?

Any appeals or questions on the PCR determination on your courses should have been done promptly after submission of your application in 2021. It was your responsibility as an applicant, clearly spelled out in the applicant guide.
After submission you watch for messages from TMDSAS in your portal and reply to them. This must have been where you saw that you had some deficiencies in your prerequisite coursework. You might think you "technically" had everything, but TMDSAS ruled differently and it is their determination that matters.

McGovern has probably not looked at your coursework to compare it to their desired prerequisites at this point - they only do that after they have offered someone admission. In other words, THIS is not why they waitlisted you.
SO, all you can do right now is go to McGovern's web page and see exactly how many hours of which classes they require. Have you taken all those at college level and not as an AP class or pre- nursing class etc.? In the event they offer you admission they will look at your transcript and see if you pass inspection.

If you don't get in anyplace and intend to reapply, be sure to take more courses in you area of deficiency before reapplying.

Is my best bet to contact the admissions office now? I have a two-pronged issue with my PCR. The first issue was that I took college classes that were basically cross-listed as Bio or Chem, and TMDSAS said once a class was listed on PCR, it couldn't be moved to another category. So even an appeal would not have fixed this issue. The second issue is that I should have appealed to get one more semester hour in the English category from another intensive writing class.

I'm assuming my best course of action would be to get ahead of this issue as much as I can if I were to be accepted and email/call admissions now. Would that be helpful, or am I just at the mercy of my mistake? Thanks for the help!

Don't call and ask them about it unless you are accepted. Nobody will take the time to discuss it with you when you are on the WL.
There's a chance they will stick by what TMDSAS ruled but there is also a chance that they will say, "sure those classes are good enough", especially on the writing-intensive courses part.
This PCR issue is NOT why you are on the WL.

Does this apply if we were just recently accepted (have not sent any transcripts to TMDSAS)? I recently received an email requesting my transcripts for TMDSAS, but the medical school also specifically requests transcripts to be sent to them.

Thanks!

If I’ve matched into a school and I’m on aWL for a higher ranked school is it true that the last day to accept an offer is may 15th? Or could I potentially switch if I get off the waitlist later?

@august232 I think I answered this for you in a different thread 😉
My answer, which is the real answer, remains the same. You will no longer get any offers from TMDSAS schools after May 15th if you are already holding a TMDSAS school acceptance.

After May 15th any new WL offers will go to unmatched Texans, or to OOS applicants.

@A Capable Commode, you will ask your college (or colleges) to send an official transcript to both TMDSAS and to your med school.
I'm not sure why TMDSAS needs it at this time of year, but I guess it's in their protocol, that they will check the transcript line by line against what you entered on the TMDSAS app for accuracy.

My school gives dean's list recognition for each quarter and I was on the list for six total quarters. Do I need to put six entries under Academic Recognition? Or, can I just list them all under one entry and write the quarters I was on the list in the description?

I feel like six entries with the same thing looks like I'm padding it lol.

Make 1 entry for Dean’s list and in the description you should have room to
A) tell what the criteria is for making it
B) list the quarters you qualified

Thank you! You're an angel.

One more question: I have a few published expository pieces on healthcare that I'd like to include. It's not research, so is this a non-academic recognition? Or should I stick these under Extracurricular Activities?

Take a look at this page on THES to guide you on choosing a category Categorizing Your Activities in the TMDSAS Application

I think you will probably end up placing this in extracurricular activities - Give it a title like Freelance writing and in the description, list/describe the articles and where you published them

A “current activity” can have an end date up to Nov 1 2022 (the TMDSAS app deadline). If you will be continuing on past when you submit your app, make an estimate of the hours but don’t go super high on your estimate.
If I am still working with my old lab (writing for publications) while not doing bench work should I list the end date for a future date?

So if I have multiple pubs/posters for this lab, how would I list it under one activity? I can't fit the citation for all of my work so I'm wondering if I should make a second activity.
If there are pubs or presentations associated with your research click the drop down button & you will get another 500 characters to give details. You will still need to be concise

Right, I guess I'm wondering how you'd suggest I cut things down to 500 characters. Do I need to list the names of my posters or just dates presented? Do I need to include a full citation or is title and publication date enough?
The TMDSAS guide says this:
List any significant research activities (paid or volunteer) you have participated in since graduating high school. (Veterinary applicants should list activities since beginning high school.)

  • Include any publications (submitted as well as published), abstracts, presentations, and posters.
  • Indicate the research activity name, start date, end date, city, approximate hours worked per week, total cumulative hours, country, state, and a brief description of the research (300 character limit). Click on [Submit] to save the record.
  • If research culminated in any publications, abstracts, presentations, or posters, you will have the opportunity to provide details. (500 character limit)
  • Additional records can be added by clicking the [Add a Research Activity] link.
You can't do this with your 300 + 500 more characters?
If you can't, make a separate entry for each research project.

I'll also suggest you look at the thread with AMCAS work/activities tips.
Read the whole introductory post first here #2
And if you still have questions, search in that thread by going to the search magnifying glass, select "this thread" and search the word publications.
