Pacific Northwest University (PNWU-COM) Discussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
whhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaattttttttttttt. CONGRATS!

are you from the PNW?

Thank you🙂..yes.
Interview invite as well!!!! It was sent via email. They have 5 dates (October 18th, November 9th, and then 3 dates in 2014).

Congrats to you too! I assume you're going in October? If so, I'll see you there!

For those who care to know (I appreciated those who posted this in last years thread):
Spokane resident (3-hours away); from the PNW. I have tons of volunteer of experience with the Yakama Nation, 100+ hrs clinical volunteer, 60hrs shadowing (MD's, no DO's).
3.5 cGPA & sGPA
12BS, 9V, 10PS = 31M (I am an awful writer!!!!)

I will be going November 9th. I have an interview scheduled for October 19th already and thought that I would be too crammed to have them back to back. I don't think it would have given me much time to prepare for each school. Overall, November just worked better for me.

Can those who received ii's please state when they received the complete email? Thanks and congrats!

I was complete on 08/28. I know everybody says this, but its just a matter of waiting and being patient. Goodluck!!!

Congratulations by the way!!!! And thanks! Are you from the PNW? Mind sharing (vague, if you like) stats?

Nope, I'm from California. As for my stats, around a cGPA, 3.8, sGPA 3.7, and MCAT 26.

Just got an interview invite for Oct. 18th hopefully. From Anacortes Washington and would love to stay close to home.

anyone know how many people they interview compared to how many they accept?

So PNW clearly has given a batch of ii's out already-does anyone know how often they send ii's out? This is one of my top schools (I'm in AK, so it's about as close to home as I could get!), and I'm impatiently waiting for my status to change soon!

Does it say Committee and the date?

Does it say Committee and the date?

Yes, I have committee/ 9/13/2013. I know the next step is either post-secondary rejection or ii.....I'm wondering if they send out batches of ii's (and when, if they do), etc.

My application was complete 9/13.
I am from Utah but my brother lives in Seattle.
~3.2 cGPA and sGPA
11VR/9PS/11BS=31 MCAT
10 Semesters as anatomy TA with over 200 hrs dissection
~100 hrs hospital volunteer
~45 hrs shadowing
2 years PreMed Club VP

I am interviewing 10/18.

I hope this helps with comparisons and good luck to you all.

Hey, question for you. So I was marked commitee 8/21 which is a bit early and I do have a High MCAT and I would say an average GPA for DO. Do you think I possibly didn't get an interview because I am from NY? Or do they just look at PNW residents first?

This question isnt directed at anyone in particular, Im just getting a little worried because this is my top choice school.

Just got my ii! I'm hoping to interview 11/9. Anyone else have this date?

I live in NY and got an invite for 9/18. I have pretty average stats, however I went to college in WA and my dad lives about 1 1/2 hours from the school. Best of luck to ya!

Just got my ii! I'm hoping to interview 11/9. Anyone else have this date?

+1

I just emailed them back with the 11/9 date request. Do you have a date confirmation email yet? I'm really hoping I can do 11/9, as I'm flying through Seattle the evening of 11/7, and would be easy to extend my trip and drive over to Yakima for this. Super excited, as this is about as close to home as I can get!

Congrats! Would you mind sharing your secondary complete date and whether you're IS or OOS?

I know this wasn't for me specifically, but I was complete/committee on 9/13. I'm OOS, but in the Pacific Northwest, and they do give consideration to "regional" residency, not necessarily just Washington.

Congrats to all those that got ii's today. I have an interview for 10/19, Im really excited but also pretty anxious. I'm from CA so I still feel like an underdawg in this, has anyone got any good tips for the interview here. The town that Im currently in is actually very similar to the atmosphere in Yakima so I feel like its a good fit for me and I want to make the right impression!

Oct. 18 ii!!! PNWU is my top choice, as my family has lived in WA for several years. OOS. 3.68cgpa 3.45sgpa, 26 MCAT. Cant wait to meet you Oct 18 interviewees!

I interviewed last year and the atmosphere was very relaxed. They use the MMI format. We were broken up into three groups of about 9-10 and each group did a different activity. One groip went on a tour, the other did a group activity and the last group did the MMI. The best advice I can give is to read up on MMI questions and be yourself. I accepted a deferred offer last year after I interviewed in early March, so I will be part of the incoming class. Best of luck to everybody interviewing.

Awesome, thanks for the feedback!

Does anyone know if they're still using MMI? I have spoken to Hope a couple times this cycle, and she said that they were "trying something new" with regards to the interview cycle. I don't know whether that meant less frequent (and larger groups) interviews, or whether the actual interview format had changed?! I suppose nobody knows at this point unless you've asked her specifically, but those with the first interviews on 10/18, could you report back after?! I'd be forever grateful!!

II for November 9th! WAY EXCITED 😀! Submitted: 9/15 Complete: 9/18 II: 10/4
GPA 3.55s/3.55c 28 OOS (Utah)

II!!! I had to choose the January 14th due to other interviews but I'm super excited!!! I can't wait to hear how the interviews go for the October and November dates!
GOOD LUCK!!!!

II today submitted way back in August

I'm pretty nervous for the MMI...really wish I had taken that bioethics class at my school.

After doing some research, it seems like getting an ii is a pretty good indicator of an acceptance (speculating), for class 2013 (class size 75 students) they had 2300 primaries and interviewed 240, assuming they are similar to other schools in that they accept ~2x the amount of students they have spots for, that would mean 150 accepted out of the 240? Praying for an acceptance here although Im not from the pacific northwest hopefully I might get some love as my sister was a pediatric nurse in Yakima! I know they've expanded their class size but I imagine the ratios will still be the same.

for the mmi prep I would recommend two things: googling example mmi type questions and practicing delivering your answers with friends/family. you really want to be yourself but it doesn't hurt both researching common ethical dilemmas and practicing delivery of your answers. when you are nervous - delivery gets harder so well practiced helps. gl.

ii 10/10/13 submitted 9/18/13

Interviewing January 11, 2014 GL!

Holy creepers. Is that the earliest that was available or just what worked for you?

PNWU is doing interviews different this year (or so Hope has told me). Larger groups, and only a few dates. The first one, with only 30 interviewees, is 10/18. The next one (and first "full" batch of interviews) are 11/9, and that is already filled. Then there's 1/11, and 3/8. That's it!!

My pleasure. When is your interview. Mine is on 11/9th. Earlier, they posted here they will change the interview format. So, I don't know if is still going to be MMII.

I have mine 10/18 so I guess I'll find out soon enough how the format is this year, I'm nervous but excited as well. Seems like a tight knit community, hoping to be welcomed to it!

Do you know why the first group has only 30 interviewees? Do they tend to hold a greater chance of getting in?

I don't necessarily think they have a greater chance of getting in because it's the first and smallest group (although we all know that earlier generally = greater chance), but Hope has said that it's kind of a "warm up" (nothing derogatory, just that since it's the first one, they want to ease into it) for the adcom/interviewers. She didn't clue me into how the admissions process is "different", only that it would be. I'm thinking that I may call her tomorrow and ask whether they will still do MMI, or if they're changing up the entire process. I'll let you guys know what I find out.

Also, just to be clear, I'm not sure if it's exactly 30, but it's somewhere around there. All the other dates should have around 60 interviewees per day.

Awesome, look forward in seeing what they might be up to this year, thanks!

Wow! Okay. Thanks! This is helpful. I haven't heard back yet, but I have two interviews before the end of this month and another 11/16. I will definitely have to be replying to some of these schools (if I am accepted 😀) before 1/11. So I supposed I won't withdraw my app, but I'm not going to be holding my breath. Thanks again!

Sorry to quote my own post, but I just realized that I accidentally omitted an interview date of April 11th. So 1 "half size" interview on 10/18, then 4 full size interviews 😉

I'm not sure how those numbers are going to add up. That mean's their only interviewing ~270 students for a new class size that is 135 students. That's exactly half the number their interviewing. Don't most schools accept roughly 2x the amount that they have seats for. So shouldn't they be interviewing 540 and accepting 270? Unless the next full sessions are much larger than 60 interviewees

I was thinking the same thing. Honestly, I don't know.....I just know that she had told me the first group was going to be small, around 30ish interviewees (maybe they have made it larger?! I spoke to her about this about 2 weeks ago). She said that was like a "half size" group, so I just assumed that the other groups were around 60ish. They could very well be larger....in fact, that makes much more sense.

Whoever has the 10/18 interview on here report back-how many interviewees, and if it's still MMI? I'll be there 11/9, so I'll let you guys know how many were on my day, and we can gauge numbers off of those 🙂

Are there two groups of 60 people each interview day? Last year there was a morning interview group and an afternoon group.
