I have heard that in the past penn has offered deferred acceptances to students who don’t make it off the wait list for that particular year. Can anyone who was in this situation in the past comment on it? What number were you on the waitlist? When were you offered the acceptance into the next years class? Thanks!

I’ve never heard of that, but personally, I wouldn’t think that’d be a good option. Hypothetical situation, but what if a better applicant has to get denied because they already promised admission to someone last year. Or worse, they go on the waitlist and you have a perpetual cycle of people not being able to come when they applied because of people getting deferred acceptances. I’m not saying it’s not a thing, I’m just saying I would be shocked at how they handle it if they do, because it appears to be a logistical nightmare.

You got a call for the following year? (Ex: Applied for 2020, got the call for 2021.)

I assume they only offer it to a limited number of waitlisters then?
