Philadelphia COM - Philadelphia (PCOM) Discussion Thread 2012 - 2013

Sent my secondary on August 30th, got login info tonight and says everything is received on the checklist. Is there a separate complete email that I should be getting as well?

I was wondering this question as well. I sent my secondary in a while ago, got the login information and when I look, it says everything is received. I also spoke to them on the phone and they made the impression that I was all set.

I must be stressed out and overanalyzing, but I think I have everything done.

Now just waiting...

Called today and was told the interview will in face begin at the end of THIS month....c'mon PCOM, we're waiting and you're ruining the advantage of applying early 👎

Not to mention how much money it is to hold seats at other schools people may interview at before they even hear from PCOM in the first place... Every school should do it like UMDNJ-SOM, $185 is plenty. Or make the $1,500 - $2,000 deposit 50% refundable or make the percentage based off of WHEN you change your mind in the cycle post-deposit... Heh.

so that means they should start sending out invites next week then right?

Probably at the end of the month like Night Hawk said. I doubt they would send invites and allow people only two weeks notice to try and schedule it in. People have work, starting up school, etc. But it does mean that they are reviewing us for the time being to determine our eligibility.

So I sent them the academic verification that they said would be appropriate for the "dean's letter", but I was told it might not suffice because it doesn't state whether or not I had disciplinary actions. I was told by an adviser (not my adviser) that my school expunges all disciplinary actions once a student graduates, so such a history doesn't exist. If the verification I sent them doesn't fulfill the requirement, then I simply can't apply (although I am contacting the registrar of my undergrad).

I also received some snarky comments from admissions (again) "students who graduated 20 years ago can get it" and "it's funny how every other school can".

This school is slow as snail in terms of application process.

They do receive the most applications out of all of the D.O schools. If I remember correctly it was close to 10,000 last year. They even held interviews later into the season last year because of it. Just stay on top of your application, make sure everything is DEFINITELY in (because there have been plenty of scary stories about students not having things complete that they thought were because PCOM hadn't verified it), and call and get updates if you need to.

Good luck! Hang in there.

just talked to admissions, it looks like they should be sending out invites starting next week since they plan to interview at end of month

released 09/06
secondaries 09/07

Does anyone know, if the required letter can be from Dean, or it can be from Associate Dean?
thanx and good luck to everybody

Anyone know when interviews will be going out? I have completed my secondary about 3 weeks ago.

Okay, PCOM, this is the week. Get on those invites! 🙂

Sincerely,
A Technically In-State for PCOM Delaware Resident

This is a top choice school for me so I'm super impatient already! The added wait time is not helping. Hahaha. 😛

It's this week! WHERE ARE THE IIs?

Unless they do their invites over the phone then my guess is at night. All correspondence with PCOM and PCOM-GA has been around 10pm if I remember correctly.

Forgot about that. Good thinking 👍 Hoping I am surprised at work tonight!

I take that back... 11:49 pm. Haha. Time to go look in last year's thread to see if it's a phone call or email, eh?

EDIT: It's an e-mail, there goes your night's sleep!

This school starts giving out interviews at the end of Sep. just called the office. That probably means start of Oct

Wonderful. More waiting 🙁 I'm really surprised that this school is moving so slowly. Totally defeats the purpose of applying early in the cycle.

Their website and the emails I've received from them say that the first interviews usually occur during late September; hopefully that is what they meant about "giving out interviews in late September" or however it was phrased above. Maybe. 🙄

Did anyone else not ever get the login information that they were supposed to send out? I submitted my secondary in mid August but never heard anything back.

Do they send complete e-mail? I sign in and under Requirements: College Ltr of Recommendation- date is still blank, but yesterday they added new lines
Addtitional Information Received and listed: Letter of Recommendation 1- Received 9-10-12. I had sent a packet from school with many letters several weeks ago as well as sending a "Dean's letter " last week .. any guess how to tell if I am complete? best to e-mail or call? I really thought a straightforward letter good standing -no disc actions would suffice for college ltr ..but maybe they haven't read it yet? But why wouldn't they show DO letter and several letters of recommendation if they are talking about the packet? This is nerve racking.. :scared:

Has anyone actually received a complete email?? All of my items are checked but I haven't received anything from them, other than a confirmation that they received my newest MCAT scores.

That's not a complete email though. That's the receipt of supplemental email, I have that one.

oh well, in that case, idk,,, anyone else wanna chime in? did anyone get ii from here yet?

If you read the email that acknowledges their receipt of your supplement, it seems that they aren't going to send a complete email. It feels like they are just going to let you know of their interview decision. I may be wrong though.

I really hope interviews start soon. How have you all been? It has been a while since I last was on SD.

I've read pages and pages of this thread about the letters requirement, but I am still so confused. If I have a committee letter, do I still need to submit the academic advisor/dean/department chair from undergrad too? It says ONE of the following, so is everyone who's doing the undergrad dean/dept chair in a situation where they don't have a prehealth advisor/committee? My "college letter" status is still blank, so maybe I need to call and ask them.

I think you're fine then. I believe most of the people having trouble with this letter are either non-trads or go to school's that don't have a committee, like me.

So I reread every email I have from them, and I'm pretty sure you're right. I guess I just assumed they would send a complete email, or had PCOM confused with a different school.

I honestly don't expect to hear from PCOM, since they get ~6500 apps every year. I think I'm a good candidate for them, but with that much competition and since I'm OOS (IN), my hopes aren't all that high.

It doesn't seem like anyone's heard anything yet. Jeeze, PCOM - way to be slow!

So don't count yourself out just yet, BabyDoc!

Regarding the dean's letter, PCOM is perfectly content with something from a professor who is the chair of any department. It worked for me.
