Philadelphia COM - Philadelphia (PCOM) Discussion Thread 2012 - 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Sent them an email this morning to ask why they didnt accept my college advisor letter. They said it was overlooked and added the letter to my application. Now the wait for an II begins!

How many LORs are required here. I sent it 3 but they only have 1 marked as recieved. Do they only require 1?

They sent me an email confirming my secondary and fee which had a link that you can login to and check your status. Then they sent me an email saying I'm complete.

how long did it take for you to receive the complete email after you were sent the email confirming your secondary with the link? Thanks!

For those of you who had your academic advisor's LOR accepted by PCOM, how did it show up on the login status page? Is it the "College" letter? Or does it specifically say Advisor?

I would like to know as well since the boxes under status so far show up as a blank. The email did stress to wait awhile though.

It looks like interview invites started about this time last year, What do you think, guys? Is this the week? 😛

That would be nice! I'm hoping my last letter is received/uploaded this week. Just found out that PCOM takes your highest scores in each MCAT subsection, so I'm super happy about that!

Hey do you guys know if they'll accept an MCAT from 08/12/2010? or is it too old?

ughhhhh so frustrated right now! called in b/c I hadn't received my secondary yet. Turns out they sent it a few weeks ago to a wrong email address. they made a typo! So who is to blame for putting me a few weeks behind 🙁

It happens and you are not behind... II have not even started yet...

Everything is sent in, just waiting on a LOR from my pre-medical advisor.

I should have really looked into what they expected for letters prior to me asking for letters. lol

That sounds awesome! How did you figure that out?

Finally got a response about my new MCAT scores, they have been uploaded so now I just need my Dean's letter. I'm hoping it'll come in this week so I can be complete.

How do you know if they've accepted your LORs and you are complete? Is there a specific status that says complete? It says that all my items are received, but in all the status places, its blank?

thanks for the help in advance

need a find a way to get the letter of rec from my advisor if he still remembers me.

I would like to know this question as well. Also, the date for my MCAT score is not correct, I sent both of my scores after I received them to AACOMAS. Is this the case for anyone else?

Did you get an eMail with login information? I sent in my secondary and LORs last week and got an eMail saying they'll send me login information once it is complete.

Mine looks like that too. I don't have anything that says I'm complete or not either. I think we could just call and ask if we are complete but the email says to "please allow up to 15 business days for the processing of items" so I'd at least wait that much time before calling and asking about your status.

This is the only DO school I am unable to finish because of "that letter".

Is there any way around it? Sigh, reading last year's thread.. just realised, it is going to be a longg year.

I have a semi-specific question that I hope someone can answer. I heard PCOM screens out people with low scores in a given section of the MCAT. I have a 6 VR from my most recent test and a 9 from a test in 2011. I'm worried they're going to take my more recent score, which is higher, and then screen me out because of the 6.

Does anyone have any insight into something like this?

As long as you have one test score set with each section at least an 8 and above, you are okay.

I was told at the open house that even the 8 subsection score is not a dead set requirement. Obviously it helps, but they won't just throw out your application if you got say a 6 or a 7 in one of the subsections.

I can second this from having attended the Open House this past Fall. They did however say that a 4 is too low and will require a retake. The admissions director told a story of an applicant with a 3.7 cGPA / 3.5 sGPA / 27 MCAT (13/2/12) and she was told that she had to get her verbal up or she would not be considered.

I submitted my secondary on 8/20, but still have not received log-in information. They said in the eMail it could take up to 15 business days, but I figured it would be much sooner.

Anyone submit after 8/20 and still not processed?

I had submitted mine on 8/13, but didn't receive the login information until 8/24. So it took about 11 days for them to process it.

Now it's wondering if all the requirements they have listed and marked as received complete the application or not...

The waiting sucks, hang in there!

Okay, it's after labor day, PCOM - get on the interview invites! 😛

It's also on their website

I looked over their admissions requirements/policy, and saw nothing indicating they take the highest subsection score... can you perhaps link it?

grrr I've sent them my committee letter 3 times now and they still cant find it.... anyone else having problems sending them committee letters via email?

Did anyone apply to both PCOM and GA-PCOM? I noticed we had to send the application fees to the same address. Did you also send LORs to that same address for both schools?

PCOM Office of Admissions
4170 City Avenue
Philadelphia, PA 19131-1694

Or did you send the GA-PCOM LORs to this address:

Georgia Campus–Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine
Admissions Coordinator
625 Old Peachtree Road NW
Suwanee, GA 30024

PCOM is waaaay behind their timeline from last year. Has anyone heard anything about interviews yet? :/

I don't know, but if they are planning to start interviews in September they need to get on top of it SOON.

You literally just need a letter saying that you graduated with such and such a degree and when. It does NOT have to be a real LoR.

Source: I sent just that and got in.

I just got a complete email last night at midnight.

Confirmed that my letter was mailed last Thursday, so I hope to be complete & under review soon!

This school is slow as snail in terms of application process.
