Personal preferences matter, eg. I'd rather live in LA or Dallas than in St. Louis. Also, you will most likely work in the state that you do your residency in:

this is kind of a hard question to answer since you give no criteria on which you want these ranked. most "prestigious"? least malignant? they are also in very different parts of the country, so it might be easier to rank by location. is there a particular fellowship you are interested in, as that would be very important to consider when ranking them.

As far as DC, GW has nicer facilities and seemd more chill, while Georgetown seemed more academic (but that was 4 years ago, so it may have changed). Georgetown has a storied history but seemed to have fallen on hard times, while GWU was an up and comer but had had poor board pass rates back in the 1990's-early 2000's (now seems resolved).

Agree with the fact if it's for medicine and you are thinking of fellowship, think where you might want to stay and/or do fellowship. Also pick a residency with strong reputation in any subspecialty area(s) you are interested in. For example, Emory and WashU are both known for having strong cardiovascular divisions.

i think a lot really depends on what you want to do afterwards. for example, everyone here so far has ranked gw above harbor-ucla and cedars sinai. but if you look at the match list for cards the last few years, both harbor-ucla and cedars sinai have matched more people into cards than gw. so it really depends on what you're looking for.

I am thinking Cardiology. Also, how would Umiami rank among this list? All help is appreciated

For cards you should try going to WashU or Emory if you can...both have very well known cardiology divisions. WashU matches a ton of people into cards every year, but to get a spot there (even as an internal applicant) will be very very hard.

I didn't rank GWU higher than Harbor or Sinai...I just said I couldn't rank those 3 Cali programs b/c I really didn't know.

I wouldn't go to GWU for cards fellowship...they don't match that many folks externally for cards. Georgetown years ago was famous for cards but now not so much so...don't know what's up with their residency currently but 4-5 years ago it was a little "down", though still more "academic" in terms of resident research and faculty, etc. than was GWU. GWU had been stealing their faculty though, so currently I don't know. Probably best to go look if you're not sure, but in general DC doesn't have the "top"/most prestigious IM residencies.

You have listed a bunch of great programs. Interview where you will like it best. What are your career goals? Based on your list I'd guess you are a strong candidate, gunner type . . . so for you, this is easy:

my personal favorite on the list is Cedars - I really liked the program, but I was trying to get OUT of LaLa land, not stuck there.
