I dont know how many schools you applied to, but keep your chin up. Even the best vets I know didnt get in their first or second application cycle. Work on whatever the interviewer suggests and keep faith, you've got this.

25, female.
Cumulative GPA: 3.1
Science GPA: 2.8
Didn't take GRE (its optional for 2021)
Thousands of hours of experience over 8+ years, current RVT.
Studying and volunteering in several countries: Large animal/small animal/exotic/surgery/conservation/research/etc.
Solid LOR from Orthopedic and Ophthalmologist Specialist DVMs, and one from pre-vet advisor.

**Committee said they wanted more LORs... I'm also going to write a letter explaining my low grades (C-) in early science courses. I had a **** ton of medical issues as a young adult, but I never brought it up because I didn't want them to think I'm not "healthy" enough for island life, if that makes sense. The weirdest part about all of this is i've actually been lucky enough to be doing exotic medicine and hands-on field work all over the world--I thought "why the heck would I go to vet school if I'm already doing everything they are?" I don't need the $, but having a DVM opens so many other doors I couldn't otherwise open..

*For those wondering about:
-Welcome packets--those will be sent out within 4 weeks once you pay the deposit.
-Vet Prep and 1st semester--fully online until May semester.
-GRE--not required for the entire year of 2021.
-There IS an appeal process.. contact your admissions advisor for more info.
 
I feel like this might have been answered already but I can't find it. For the people doing online classes currently, are some of them live or are they all pre-recorded and you just log in to watch the classes? Also for test are there certain times they need to be done or they available any time on a test day? I've spoken to a lot of the doctors I work with and they all say when they were in school they tended to have lectures/labs from 8am-5pm so they were all unsure how that translates to online course structure

All of them are live. Most of them don’t have mandatory attendance and you can watch later if you’d like (tbh I do this with most of my classes), but I will say lower semesters tend to have more mandatory classes than upper semesters. Every semester is assigned a test time and you have to log on at a specific time to take your exam. Everyone in the semester has to take their test at the same time.

Classes schedules somewhat vary, but that’s kind of how they always are. Even with in person classes schedules would vary though. Some days I would have class pretty much all day, other times I would just have two.

Oh one last question (I am just so ready I want school to start now 😆 ) I know we get sent an ipad to use for notes, classes, tests etc. When do they typically send those out? I live in an area where packages disappear so I would want to be on the lookout for it.

I don’t know for those starting online, sorry!! Before Covid we got them on island during orientation week. I imagine they will be contacting you though prior to shipping them though (that’s what they did with us when they shipped us suture/spay model).

I’m so sorry to hear that. When did you interview and for what semester? I looked at your stats and you have such awesome experience so I’m pretty shocked by you getting a denial 🙁.

It took them 3 weeks to get back to me in an email after I interviewed. Yeah I'm pretty bummed... applying again for May semester though

I got the email Thursday that all semester one classes will be online for January 2021 semester. I'm bummed as well! Can't wait until we can finally get to St. Kitts.

I interviewed the 7th my application was moved to “committee review” on the 10th and the date changed the 16th and that’s when they sent me an email about financial aid. I interviewed with Jeanne DiPretoro she told me I would hear back at the end of the month. Who did you interview with?

Also, This journey of mine has been a little bit crazy tbh but I'm here to let you know that you can do anything you want in life, you can learn anything you want, you can be anything you want!!! it's just a matter of being focused and being persistent. I was never the smartest guy in the classroom, what my friends learned in 1 hour it took me a day to do so. Never compare yourself to others bc everyone's journey is different! be genuine in the interview, BE YOU, lead the interview, and don't let the interviewer lead it for you. Own your mistakes and learn from them, be proud to talk about how you messed up (if you ever did, I know I did) and how you learned from it and became a better person.

Yay!!! Congrats! I'm so excited to actually get to meet everyone one day but at least we will all get to "meet" each other online!
 
Received an email about the iPad, they gonna start shipping them. I wonder what they gonna do with the white coat ceremony tho, is it virtual?

For Green and Purple they made it virtual, not sure about next semester.. I know you won’t be on island, but not sure if they will delay it or not.
 
It sounds like they will postpone the which coat ceremony until we are actually on the island because a lot of people were upset they didn't get to have an in person ceremony

I can only imagine. Maybe with the necessary precautions, they can do it in person but it's still a risk unless they do it outdoors. I have mixed feelings about it, I prefer an in-person ceremony but I also understand why it's not possible.

@Sunnyrae is correct. They sent us all the Q&A and discussed white coats. They mentioned that we will not have it done virtually but rather in person the second we go back onto the island... no matter what semester we're in by then. They are not doing virtual white-coats anymore because the May starting and Sept. starting semesters did not have good feedback about it.

Congrats! Clinics are one year. You would finish on island Aug 2023, graduate in Aug 2024 (ceremony is held in May though). I started on the May timeline too 🙂

I applied in August for May 2021, heard about an interview a few weeks later in September and then interviewed September 28th!
 
I submitted for fall 2021 admittance if I get in, but I haven't heard anything from them. Anyone else in this same boat or can give me some information?

I heard they are trying to fill the spots for the January and May classes before they get to Fall 21

It was pretty conversational for the most part. Ethical questions were definitely a big part of it as well. Also specific questions about my application - so know your application well since it is an open application interview. Make sure you have questions to ask at the end as well! But overall my interviewer was really nice and made me less nervous from the start.

Yea so that’s typically the case a few people for the fall semester will get acceptance between September and December. The majority usually start getting them around February - March for fall 2021 but some people do get their acceptances later than March.
 
Hello, I don't know who might be looking at this question but I just wanted to know if anyone had been Vet Prep already? I am in it now but I wanted to know if you passed each class, or did you missed like 4 points from passing with an 84/120?

I was just emailed and offered an interview for Fall 2021 (I applied on VMCAS). I am interviewing on 1/11! If. anyone has any insight or tips for the interview please let me know 😊!

Hi! I went Through vet prep pre COVID (I’m a 3rd semester now). VP classes are graded individually. You have to pass all 4. Feel free to send me any questions, I am Super thankful for my time in VP, it definitely helped me attack future classes head on, a lot of the material covered is much the same as what you’ll face in the future semesters.

What's your take on the block system? I've heard from other students that got changed to the block system don't like it. But, I was wondering since it's your first semester and you came into it how it is if you are just as annoyed by it or not. It honestly is making me rethink Ross. I already dont like that airlines are cracking down on ESA so my pups wouldnt be in the cabin with me. But if school is set up in a way that burns out students quicker then that also is something I want to weigh into the equation.

Hello! I will be starting my 3rd semester next week, both my previous semesters were fully online. Blocks seem to be a pretty touchy subject and there are definitely pros and cons. I think it was a TON easier for the newer semesters to adjust just because we don’t have anything to compare it to. Having your routine messed up is the worst and I would be upset too if I got used to having things done a certain way and then all of a sudden it changed halfway through. But since blocks were a thing from the start I learned to just roll with it. As long as I would stick with my study routine and do a little bit each day I didn’t really have a problem adjusting and avoided feeling too burned out. I have still been able to find time to take breaks, have off days every once in a while, and make time for fun non-school things while maintaining my grades. I liked that it forces me to stay on track and keep up with the material because I struggled with that in undergrad. My only complaint is that finals are still worth 40% of your total grade even with blocks each week. That being said, so far in my experience studying for finals has been more of reviewing the information since I had to keep up with it all semester long anyways. This obviously will depend on the person and will be different for everyone. This is just based on my personal experience with the past two semesters. I hope this helped and if you have any more specific questions about blocks, or Ross in general I would be more than happy to speak on behalf of my experience!
 
I just finished my interview! My interviewer was so nice and personable, I feel really good about how the interview went. It was so natural and conversational, it felt more like chatting with a friend about applying to school and my experiences rather than an interrogation like some of my other experiences with interviews. Overall it left me with a great feeling about the school and community

They told me about 6 weeks! So I guess they’re getting over the holiday slump and catching up now
 
Just had my interview with John tonight! It was super laid back and honestly a super fun experience. From start to finish it took about 30 min. I was told I'd hear back in 6-8 weeks, so now the waiting continues :dead:. Come prepared with questions for your interviewer, relax, and have fun!

My interview is coming up on Feb 10, does anyone have any advice i'm super nervous!
 
Can anyone expand on the final year clinicals a bit? Are you guaranteed to get one of your choices for placements in the US? or is it fairly random and the school chooses for you? I have an offer to start in May, but am really worried about a) living on an island for 2 years and b) how choosing Ross could affect my job opportunities for the future. But, the shortened time till graduation is a real thing for me to consider...
