Hey! Quoting y'all just in case you have time to look at my questions
🙂 I'm trying to decide between A&M and another school, so I was wondering if any current students could give me any insight into their experience. I have a whole list of questions that I'll just copy and paste here, so if you have the time I would really appreciate any answers to any of the questions! I realize y'all don't have experience with the new curriculum, but if you have any information on it at all or if you could share your experiences based on the old curriculum, I would appreciate it!
How much freedom do you get to explore your specific interests, both in classes and in rotations?
It seems each semester is mostly a few 4 to 6 credit hour classes covering general topics, as opposed to a semester with a lot of 2 to 3 credit hour classes covering very specific topics.
- How do you like this setup? Do you feel like the curriculum is organized at A&M?
- Are there enough exams and other grades to help buffer your GPA, or do your grades come mostly from a few big exams covering a lot of material?
- How often do you have exams?
- Are there any subjects that the curriculum seems to favor?
Do you feel like you get enough education in microbiology, infectious diseases, surgery, or dermatology?
How much hands-on experience do you get, and how early?
What do you think of the anatomy courses? What resources exist to help you with this course (or other courses?)
How solid of an education do you feel the core curriculum gives you in equine medicine? How about food animal?
Do you know anything about the fail rate at A&M? Do you feel like the curriculum is manageable?
Is it difficult to find affordable housing close to the school?
Edit: Also what's your opinion on a more integrated curriculum? Pros, cons? Do you think it's a good thing, bad thing, or just depends on your individual learning style?
