The UCLA Waitlist Club Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Miss Medicine,

I interviewed probably the latest date possible 5/24. I was the only person to interview that day. It was kind of weird being the only person their waiting for an interview.
Anyways, as you can tell by how late I posted that obviously I am not on the waitlist, I am just waiting upon a decision to be made on my application.

I think for sure that the letter is either a waitlist or rejection at this point considering that the class is probably full by now. Good luck to you.

Hey Miss Medicine,

Yea...I interviewed around 05/20 or so...One of the last days. There was another girl there who I interviewed with.

If it was an acceptance, I REALLY think they would have called me. Since they did not call me, I doubt it's an acceptance. The reason is that they know I am about to send 300 bucks into another place and they would have called me to have told me NOT to send the money. They didn't call, so I am assuming just a waitlist or rejection.

I'm also leaning toward a rejection/WL since I read another SDNer called after having a final letter sent and they told him/her over the phone that he got in. it's much easier to tell someone over the phone they got in as opposed to tell them they got rejected or WL.

My interview either was the bomb...or I did a faceplant into the dude's lap!

It could really go either way depending on what he thought of me.

Remember, I was rejected four months ago and appealed the rejection. So that doesn't put me in a great spot to begin with :)

gnray and jmejia

You guys were not appeal candidates right?

jemjia- I really cant be the judge of how my interview "went". I completely enjoyed my interview. I interviewed with a physician that was sooo nice and sweet and I really enjoyed our conversation. He asked me some very interesting questions that I had actually never been asked before (which seemed impossible after 7 months of interviewing) which made my interview with him very interesting (ie- had I ever lost respect for any physician)

Anyway, I wish there were other SDNers that are still waiting for a post-interview decision so that I didnt feel so alone. Anyone?

I was not an appeal candidate no. Man I am really antsy about this decision letter.

I did however send the Director of admission a letter of interest prior to getting the secondary since it was taking them a miserably long time to send me a secondary.

You guys are right in terms of finding it hard to judge the success of the interview. However, this bein the last interview I think I was able to form a realistic, non-naive interpretation of the interview, and I felt it was one of my better ones. I can't believe that this late in the season we are still at the edge of our seats.

scoobs, nray, and jmeija (yeah, I don't hold hard feelings, jmeija :D ) -- good luck!

better to know than not know, like the rest of us, right?

A quick response is DEFINITELY an ACCEPTANCE. UCLA does not rush rejections, let me tell you that. If you look back at all the posts about UCLA acceptances, they have all been very quick responses (less than 3 weeks at times) and waitlists/rejections take MUCH longer.

However, a slow response isn't necessarily a waitlist or rejection. I interviewed 2/7 and was accepted 5/17.

Good luck!

Was it just my computer or was the forum really down for a couple of days?? Anyway, cuz of the technical problem I haven't been able to post anything in the past few days.

Good luck to ya all waiting for the final decision letter...there's nothing you can do but sit tight and wait. I have a hunch that it would be a mix of accept/waitlist/reject letters. Please share news with us.

Good luck to you guys. Keep in mind that a quick reply isn't necessarily an acceptance either. I got my wait-list letter exactly two weeks after my interview.

I got waitlisted.

Just so you guys know.

Ah....more waiting...oh joy....

Wait..so are the parenthesis where we are planning on going if we don't get into UCLA?

If so...put me down for Columbia :)

matthew0126, sorry for being a jerk earlier and thanks for wishing us good luck.

scoob, so how did you find out you were waitlisted? who did you speak to; deanna, monotone man? did you get any impressions that the letters sent out yesterday were all waitlists?

Congrats on your recent acceptance, Martymcfly!

They were waitlist letters! I too was placed on the "alternate" list. :(

WHEN DOES UCLA START THIER FALL QUARTER?

Sorry dude..

Looks like GOOD NEWS for Miss Medicine then :)

This late in the game maybe we were interviewing for a spot on the alternate list. I haven't heard of anyone interviewing in may and getting an offer of acceptance. have you guys noticed differently?

so again, when does UCLA start their class?

•••••I was told in the beginning that I was only interviewing for the alternate list. I asked her when she told me my interview was in late may if I was only interviewing for the alternate list and she said "Yes"

But then a couple weeks ago when I talked to deanna or someone else, they told me IT IS POSSIBLE to get directly in this late in the game b/c they were looking at ALL APPLICANTS ALL AT ONCE (waitlisted and ones who had not heard yet) and so anything could happen...

Oh well...

Now the waiting continues!

Now the waiting continues!•••••I just got off the phone, asked for Deanna but she's out for the week and Carol was out for lunch, so I had no choice but ask monotone dude. According to him, May interviewees WERE interviewing for a spot in the class and if an acceptance was not granted then one was placed on the alternate list. This made it sound as if no rejections were handed out. So asked if applicants were rejected in May and he said yes. I'm just going to let it rest and try and forget about it. Good luck to everyone on the list.

haha...

MONOTONE GUY IS ALONE IN THE OFFICE!!!!!!

EVERYONE CALL RIGHT NOW!!!!!!

haha...j/k :)

My god, reading this thread is like watching a soap opera! I hope ALL of you get in! :D

whatever happened to "50% of waitlistees get in!!!" why can't let some of us in???

•••quote:•••Originally posted by sjordan:
•whatever happened to "50% of waitlistees get in!!!" why can't let some of us in???•••••I've been told it can be anywhere from 10% to 50% who get in off the waitlist. Deanna told me to call her back in July to get more updates on the waitlist movement. Whatever it means..

the waiting is driving me crazy

i wonder how they're picking people. are they meeting once a week, reviewing a few applications, and then pulling a few candidates from that bunch?

How long is everyone willing to wait for an answer before they get fed up or it becomes too inconvenient?

If they are this unresponsive and uninformative with students/applicants about what is going on, then what reason do we have to believe that it will be different once we are students. I could just have a bad glimpse, but it seems as though UC's treat their students as second rate citizens.

Please someone help me with my negative thoughts about UCLA. I know it is a good school, but remind me why everyone is so dead set on it.

Oh, yeah, and an MS4. They are all very happy with UCLA. I have heard more than once that during the first few days of class, they would look around and think, wow! how did I get into a class of such a high caliber of student. None have expressed a regret in their decision to attend UCLA. One MS2 (soon MS3) that I know is really close to Dean Parker and even considers him a friend. I'm sure that once you get in and the pressure is off, you'll feel the same.

I am really starting to get frustrated with all of this waiting. Maybe once UCSF's waitlist begin to move will we begin to see a little more movement with the UCLA waitlist. Hopefully it will be more than the amount pulled of the list a couple of weeks ago (fewer than 10). :p  :(

Tried to get waitlist info from someone other than the "uniformed guy", but was forced to ask him anyway. He said that traditionally, 25% of those on the waitlist get off.

Barb,

Fewer than 10 were pulled off UCLA's waitlist a couple of weeks ago.

Just a quick note about an email I received from my interviewer a few days ago. He continued to reiterate that waitlist movement is a very complex process not controlled by a single individual. He also stressed that from his experience and understanding, approximately 40% of the entering class comes in off of the waitlist every year. Hopefully, this year will not be different.

Well complex can mean many different things...

Do you have any idea how they decide?

So it's DEF not ranked???

5279,

Thank you so much for keeping us up-to-date and planting our minds with hope again. :D

No problem Patiently Waiting, I sincerely hope that all of us get in this year. My waitlist letter also said that I had been placed onto an unranked list.

Well considering that I was JUST put on the waitlist like 2 days ago...I think my chances of being pulled anytime soon are definitely worse than the rest of you guys..but who knows!!!

Ah well...sit and wait...

I'll probably withdraw July 25th if they don't get me in by then...

That is a much more realistic answer to the question posed by one poster a while ago :)
