Agreed. I live in Harem in a privately owned brownstone. I have a 2br, roughly 1200sq. ft. and we pay total 2350/mo. I have never felt unsafe here. There are about 25 students live in "Harlem", it's a huge area. You use the same street smarts here as you would anywhere else- i.e. don't walk down the creepy alleyway at 3am, and don't talk to weirdos.

Damn, creepy alleyways at 3am and weirdos are my thing. Somehow I guess I'm lucky to be from Queens.
 
Is it too late to apply here? AACOMAS is still verifying my app and I've been considering this school. If i do, I will prewrite my essay now. I haven't seen much feedback from current students but everything I have heard has been positive.
My stats are 3.55cGPA 3.71sGPA 33MCAT

It's not too late to apply here since they prescreen intensely before sending a secondary and only then you will have to spend any money so it would not be a waste. If AACOM verifies you soon there is still time for you to apply; if they like what they see (and those stats look pretty good to me) they will send you a secondary and then you're in the game as everyone else.

They received mine on 9/11 so technically it was still before they received yours. Maybe they will get to it this week?

That's right. Interview invite must be more important than your check's being cashed early.

I was complete 09/05 and they only just cashed my check a few days ago when people were buzzing about it on this forum...hope it's a good sign, I have an interview at Touro Nevada and would love to get one in Harlem (a short commute from my home town) -- it would be a tough choice, but I miss NY a lot...

Touro Nevada is one of two out of my 34 that has yet to send me a secondary. Raro (weird).
 
Has anyone here gotten an interview invite with a <3.0 GPA? I'm looking at this thread and am feeling a little out of place with the rest of you receiving an interview 🙁

I have pretty poor stats at 3.14 cGPA 2.90 sGPA 29 MCAT (7 VR 11 BS), not only that I am also Chinese Canadian and I am applying from Vancouver!

If its true that secondary = likely interview then I think you are in good shape!

I actually received an interview already, but just feel slightly intimidated compared to all the high stats that are getting interviews haha
 
Anyone here know of anyone who is currently attending/graduated from TouroNY?

Slightly below average applicant here with 27R MCAT and 3.5 gpa with tons of med extracurrics....reaching hard for MD, but will probably end up DO, not sure whether to wait a year and reapply 😕

Your stats are more than fine for DO schools. Maybe shadow a DO to see if you like it? There's so much overlap between the two nowadays, it really doesn't matter which route you take. I don't know anyone that goes to Touro, but its my first choice, and the match list was pretty impressive.

hey bud since we have similar stats, i was wondering if you could tell me how long it took from submission of secondary till your interview invite? it would be a good reference for me....

Secondary received 8/30
Secondary sent in and confirmed 9/10
Interview invite 9/27

Best of luck man, hopefully we'll both get into this school!
 
May be we have to wait another week for invites.....I'm going to keep on praying.....

I concur....not getting any love as a PA resident nor as a former New Yorker...
 
🙁 I haven't even received the secondary! I called 1-2 weeks ago and they told me my app is still under review 😕

Interviewed today. Thought the school was nice. You can definitely tell they are student focused as opposed to research focused. I thought the interview went alright. It was pretty much the opposite of what I thought it would be based on the interview feedback section of sdn; however, it sounded like the type of interview and questions varied quite a bit depending on which panel you got. We were told they are giving decisions in 6 weeks now to give everyone more time.

Glad you enjoyed your day! Did you still get to see the lecture halls? I know the first years had 2 exams today- until 130 or so. And then we 2nd years had an exam after. Anyways, I'm happy you liked the school. The student over research focus is definitely true. Anyways, good luck! I have an OMM practical tomorrow I should stop procrastinating for....

We only got to peek into a couple big halls, but we were able to see the sim-man room, anatomy lab, OSCE rooms, and OMM room (which were all pretty cool!)

It's going to be a long six weeks!

Glad to hear you liked the school. I don't think I got to see the lecture halls when I interviewed last year either, but they def are nice
 
Do you think it's late to send my secondary?
I'm currently working at a hospital in India so I can't even interview until late December/January and I'm wondering if there will still be seats open or if I will make the last cut... I don't want to throw my money away but being in NYC would be awesome
my stats are 3.29Cum, 3.25sci, 34R mcat. gpa is low but i went to cornell undergrad (don't know if that will help)

Hey man it was great meeting you on Monday! As you touched on, it seemed like the way your interview went depended on who was interviewing you. I was pleasantly surprised by the school, I liked the facilities and the staff seems great! Good luck to everyone!

hm, touro has been surprising fast in responding to me. i sent my secondary in on friday via express mail from canada and i got an email today saying my application was submitted.


on a side note, did anyone here submit a secondary but HAS NOT received an interview as of yet? i am curious to know!
 
I haven't got an interview! I'm pretty sure there are a lot of people still waiting to hear it sounds like they only sent one batch of interviews out so far...

Relax guys. Secondaries weren't sent out until really late (end of August/early September). They only had one wave of interview invites, and the interviews are for this month. I'm sure more invites will be sent out after this batch of interviews. And think of it this way, the people who get the later invites can badger the ones from the first batch. I'll be sure to post up my experience after my interview on the 22nd.

Not sure if its one wave of invites. I got mine today (coincidentally, the 22nd was one of the dates offered for interview - but I didn't get a date confirmation yet).

They sent out an email with the next 4 mondays listed for interviews. You're supposed to email back and request a date and time (morning or afternoon), and wait for a confirmation. I've already got plans for the 22nd, so I requested the 29th.
