Touro COM - New York (TouroCOM-NY) Discussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone have any thoughts on Touro vs NYCOM? I have been accepted to Touro (end of December), and am interviewing at NYCOM tomorrow, but all the threads comparing the two that I have been able to find seem dated (ie from when Touro first started). Obviously I'll be able to see the school itself tomorrow, but I was wondering what others think. Thanks, and good luck to those still waiting to hear back.

I'm having trouble locating the thread with all the interview questions that have come up at a Touro interview. Could someone help me with that?

Thanks!

3.55s, 3.6c, 33 mcat. Had my school send Aacomas my grades from the fall semeseter... jumped from a 3.58 to a 3.6 cumulative! Bam!
I'm sure they will bring that up at the interview! Congrats.

Cool... good luck with the interview. When were you complete?

Does anyone have an idea of how full both Harlem and Middletown classes are and how late the Touro-NY interview cycle goes?

CIB says the last filing date for secondaries is 4/21. I'm sure they interview well past that. Perhaps peruse last year's thread to get a better idea?

I'm interviewing here next week. Do they ask questions about Obamacares or any other healthcare issue in depth?

So I interviewed at Touro last year. I applied a TAD later this year (secondary sent Oct), and I just completed 24 credits of grad courses and updated w all the grades. I still haven't heard back from them....

If you *just* updated with all the grades then I think you should at least give them until end of January to have a chance to look at your new file.

+1 would like to know as well

I did not get any questions regarding the ACA. The main questions they asked addressed why Touro, why Harlem, why DO. Other questions touched on various aspects of my app (it's open file). This was the case for most everyone in my interview group.

Oh so it's pretty a combo of the questions from the secondary of last year and this year lol. Thanks man.

Anyone get accepted off the wait-list??
I got acceptance today to Middletown!

I think I got accepted yesterday...I received an email with a response form to make a deposit, but I didn't receive an actual acceptance letter yet. I was on the waitlist.
I thought the same thing originally because I only saw the response email. I searched "TouroCOM" in my inbox and the acceptance letter was one of the results. What confuses me is that the response form has the deadline as January 10 to respond, but I got my acceptance January 17. I think they may have made an error in sending the form with the wrong date. I kept calling TouroCOM yesterday, but no answer.

Which campus did you guys get into from the waitlist?

To those of you that were accepted, I have already submitted my $2000 deposit back before my January 10th deadline and I received a confirmation email from both the Bursar and the admissions office confirming that they received my deposit and forms. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me when the next deadline is for forms/deposits after the initial accepted student response form and $2k deposit. I am assuming it is sometime in March or perhaps May, but I am not 100% sure. Thanks for the help! Also is there a website where important information/ dates for incoming students is posted, that would be the biggest help of all. Thanks again!

Is there a facebook group for accepted students here yet?

Are they still sending out interview invited? Does anyone know when the next cycle of invites is going out?

yeah can someone who has been accepted make the Facebook group so i can start sending you guys invites to events we have? I'm on our social committee and I would really like to try to get you guys involved as early as possible!

Hey guys, I've been complete since 11/08 with e-mail confirmation, sent in a LOR I was waiting for on 12/03. Have not heard back yet, anybody else in my position? Should I have gotten a rejection/ii by now?

The one TheArrow posted is the correct one because all class pages are NYC DO c/o 201[ ]. TouroCOM does not allow their name to be used in unofficial group pages hence the name NYC and not TouroNY
ahhh ok gotcha.

Just received an email from admissions that started with "Dear future class of 2018...."

SO EXCITED (to get shots and shop for health insurance)!!

Ohh man 3 weeks to return the health forms after they send them to you!? I won't be going back home for at least a few months... Hopefully I can fax them to my doctors office and she can sign them for me then mail them back or something.

I'm so sorry if this was discussed previously, but is the interview conducted in a group?

No, it is just you in a room with typically 2 interviewers, there was someone that I interviewed with who had 3 interviewers in the room with her. For the most part one person leads the interview, the other takes notes and will ask a few questions.

Just know your ****, smile, sit up straight, and you'll be fine. It's not a stress interview.

Is it a good idea to send a thank you letter to the interviewers afterwards? I can't, for the life of me, remember their names.

I don't think it hurts, just don't expect to get a response. Also, understand that sending a thank you letter/email will not remedy a bad interview experience; it can only bolster a good one or one somewhere in the middle.

I sent a brief email thanking one of my interviewers (forgot the other's name). I don't know what to tell you if you don't remember either of their names. Perhaps email a fellow applicant from your interview subgroup to get their names? Once you have that, you can find faculty email addresses in one of the pages in your interview packet. Best of luck!

Thanks for the info!

Ok thank you!

Can some people who were accepted post their stats and how they thought their interview went?

Submitted my primary mid-July and just recently received the secondary application. Will they actually consider my application or do they just want the $200? I don't get why it would take that long to offer a secondary app.

33/3.48sGPA/3.62cGPA

I thought the interview went pretty well when I was there, but I worried I kept saying all the wrong things. I was accepted anyway though lol.
