not gonna submit my secondary. they are not getting my $200 only to reject me

Just updating in case someone finds this useful (below). Also, I'll be posting interview/rejection info when I get it...hoping for an ii actually😉

Received secondary complete email this morning. Submitted docs a week ago via USPS. I'm OOS.

II! OOS applicant, complete 9/24. I was given 2 days to choose from, 2 weeks from now :scared:

I'm losing my mind. Should I call the school to see if I received an interview/status of my app?

Same situation here. I was verified mid September and ended up calling them on the last week of September. The person "confirmed my stats" over the phone and I received a secondary later that day. The person was telling me about how all the Jewish holidays really slowed them down and they're a few weeks behind schedule on everything this year, including II's. They've only been reviewing the apps for a little over two weeks and just started to send out IIs last week. So don't fret brethren! Stay strong.

I had the same logic. A $200 secondary is not worth it if its not a guaranteed interview. With that money you can apply to 1-3 more separate schools.

My money order has still not been cashed. Does it mean my application has not been completed yet?

My check hasn't been cashed yet either but I spoke with adcom and was told that my application is complete.

$200 / $50 = 4 schools

$200 / $75 = 3 schools

$200 / $100 = 2 schools

Seems about right if we are just considering secondary fees.

Yup. I'm not loaded with cash so i felt i did the most logical thing. I added 3 more allopathic schools with fees ranging from 50-85.

Hey guys just wanted to let you know that I got an ii today. I called to make sure my file was complete, and after finding out that they missed my DO LOR in their first pass he offered my an ii right over the phone. Will likely be there on Oct 28.

Congrats! That's very exciting.
Do you mind sharing your stats?

Just got an II! I'm in-state but I'm not sure if that matters at this school very much. My stats are 33/3.62c/3.48s. I guess I'd be considered non-traditional since I worked in research for about 4 years after undergrad. I picked October 28th as my interview date and just received a confirmation.

Got an II. Problem is, I only have two days to chose from (23 and 28), and I already have interviews on the 25th and 30th. Will I be stretching myself out if I accept the interview? Is it possible to call the admissions officer and reschedule?

I called and rescheduled the one I got today for Nov. 4th

Got an ii this morning! sGPA: 3.2, cGPA: 3.3, MCAT: 32, Canadian. Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back.

Wow, you all have such great MCAT scores. I'm completely jelly.

I got an ii yesterday. Canadian, 25S, cGPA 3.9. 🙂 Anyone have tips on how to prepare for the interview?

Also, I called to reschedule my interview date and they were great about it.

Congrats on the interview! Touro invites a group of people (12-14 people) on a same day and have you guys wait at the conference room. Dean of school and couple other people come in to give a brief rundown of school, financial info, etc while two candidates get called out each time for the actual interview.
It was a 2 vs 1 interview ~ 1 yr ago, and they used to have a good cop bad cop routine for some candidates. I'm not sure if things have changed, but just letting you know not to freak out if one of the interviewers gives you a hard time.
The interview itself is chill...just make sure to prepare thorough answers on frequently asked questions (why Harlem, research experience, teamwork etc).
And one advice would be that while you are waiting at the conference room and no big shots are talking...try to be professional and friendly to other candidates. I might be totally wrong, but I get a feeling that conference room is being observed the whole time. Or maybe I just watched too many movies...anyway, good luck!

Out of curiosity, do you have DO shadowing experience?

Hey mkmix - I do not have shadowing experience. In Canada, it is quite difficult to obtain this kind of experience in a clinic as it is not legally permitted if you are not already a med student (a bit of a catch 22). However, I do have A LOT of research experience. I worked for many years during my undergrad and MSc in laboratories.

Hey Audaz, thanks for clearing that up. I was trying to assess how much they value DO shadowing experience when offering iis as someone earlier in the thread had mentioned that they were offered an ii over the phone when they mentioned they had worked with a DO.

Congratulations on your ii btw - good luck on it.

I think that might be just a BC thing, I had the same experience as you. My friend from Ontario got to shadow no problem.

As an aside. Any Cdns out there with questions about Touro I'd be happy to try to help out. 👍

ugh i thought me submitting me secondary was almost guarenteed an ii. i guess things have changed this cycle (?) and they decided to offer more secondaries especially with the branch campus opening up?

Touro is a top choice based on location and the fact thats in the Northeast (I'd really like to stay here). So I'd lump touro, nycom, pcom and rowan all together as my top choices for the schools i applied to. with that said, rowan is probably my preference out of those 4 because I'm IS.

ii for Nov. 4... anyone have any recommendations for OOS applicants in terms of where to stay, which airport to fly into, etc.

LGA is the closer airport to school, you can take the M60 which takes you directly from the airport to the front door of the school.

I will be there on the 4th as well. Probably will fly into lga and stay somewhere by the school. Found a few hostels nearby. See you there!

II today! Complete mid September if that helps anyone.

Hi everyone~~ I have scheduled my interview on 10/30~~ OOS all the way from CA 😛

Does anyone know where woule be a good place to stay ~ that is also near the school?

THXXXX

Hey lalongo - I'm from Ontario and I also know someone that also shadowed a doctor in the province a couple of years back but he said it wasn't really shadowing (more akin to just being around in the clinic and watching the behind the scenes).

It's unfortunate that it is not easier to find more meaningful shadowing experiences in Canada....

Hey, my primary application was released on 10/10/13. I know its only been seven days, but should I be worried that I did not receive my secondary app yet? My GPA is a tad above average, but my MCAT is 10 bs, 10 ps, and 5 vr. Could I possibly get screened out due to low vr? Thanks.

Hey Neuropeptide, I would give it another week and then call the admissions office. It took roughly two weeks before I received a secondary invite after my primary application was released. Good luck!

Just submitted my secondary! Hoping for an ii. Any idea how long it will take before I hear back?

Last cycle and it seems this cycle, Touro is after those 30+ MCAT scores. A 5 in VR would prob get you screen out of most programs. You should retake.

I had no DO shadowing experience and was accepted. I discussed it in my interview. Have a good "why DO" answer that is personal and you'll be fine. Half the professors there are MDs - just say you had valuable shadowing experiences and they were excellent physicians which is your goal, MD or DO.

Thank you, that's very comforting to hear. Congratulations on your acceptance btw!!

Hey, congratulations are in order either way!

Could you give a bit more insight into your classes, the professors and what you most/least like about Touro?

Hey guys I'm interviewing tomorrow for session II at 10:15AM. Just confirming it is at this time, even though we originally selected the 12:45PM for the session II?

I know I'm in the same situation as you. I missed 2 days of work because of an interview in florida and now this one tomorrow. Ughh my boss hates me

Greetings 🙂

I just found an old email! The 12:45pm interview is now 10:15am (to 4:00pm) it seems.
I am also session 2, by the way. See you tomorrow!
