Touro COM - New York (TouroCOM-NY) Discussion Thread 2014 - 2015

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just submitted my deposit! Very excited!
For you and everyone who is submitting their deposit and the response form, make sure you receive confirmation that your seat has been secured. I submitted the form last week and the deposit this Monday but they couldn't find me form. After I called them, everything got taken care of fairly quickly, but just a heads up!

Oh wow thanks for letting me know! Also I read online that when you accept a seat at touro you're given the lectures and syllabus right away. Did you receive anything like that?

I haven't gotten anything yet, but in the e-mail it did say that more documents would open up and come in January.
"In January you will begin to receive the first of your enrollment documentation. If you have any questions about what to look forward to over the next several months feel free to contact the Office of Admissions (see contact information below). "

I may email Touro Middletown and try to get an updated estimate of when we can expect to hear back, if nothing comes through today. It seems like Harlem and Middletown tend to be pretty firm on their deadlines so it seems strange.

Is it possible to get an interview at both Harlem or Middletown, or is it just one?

When I was at Harlem she said that only interview at one campus. If you interview at Harlem let's say, but really want to go to Middleton, you need to interview again but not sure how that fully works

Got an email this morning, rejected. Not surprised since I felt the interview went badly. Oh well...

For Harlem, are there exams every Monday?

Rejected from Middletown this morning...I don't understand. To be honest I was really expecting an acceptance because my interview day was bulletproof. Not really sure what happened here.

to all the newly accepted students for middletown I am looking for other medical students interested in renting an apartment or possibly a house in the nearby area to the middletown campus. please email me if your interested [email protected]

One of the interviewers was clearly unimpressed from the beginning and started the whole thing with a why-does-this-kid-have-an-interview demeanor. I got torn apart on minute details about my application while everyone else in my group had discussions on general topics and flowing conversations with their interviewers.

Would you mind elaborating on what sort of minute details about your application they asked you? I'm really worried about the sort of questions they'll have.

Accepted/current students: what do you like most about Touro NY/what makes it stand apart from other med schools? (Trying to prepare my answer for Why Touro and Why Harlem). Could you also tell us a bit about the ways in which med students in Harlem are involved with the community?

Can anyone speculate when those of us who interviewed on 11/10 in Harlem will hear back? The wait is seriously killing me :/

The whole med school application process is something of a gamble. You can be the perfect student 2 years in a row and never get in. A different year, the same student could get in other places. Don't beat yourself up about it. I'm sure a lot of applicants (myself included) can attest to parts of the process that seem to make no sense. At the end of the day, the application process can be a war of attrition. The only person who can guarantee you won't get in somewhere is you, by giving up. Take it as a learning experience and keep on trekkin'. If you want it bad enough you'll get in somewhere, whether it's this year or another.

As for the folks who received acceptances today, congrats! Were you guys Middletown or Harlem applicants (or both)?

I interviewed 11/10 in Harlem and I am also waiting as well!!! Ahhhh I hope I get accepted. This is my number 1 choice! :/

So what do you think? They said 2-3 weeks right? So that would be this upcoming Monday (11/24) to the following Monday (12/1). Idk how can possibly stay patient for that long :scared:

I'm really sorry. Do you have other interviews or acceptances?
Yeah I have two acceptances so it's not a total heartbreak hah. Congrats to everyone who got accepted!!!

Can any students from Touro (particularly Harlem) tell me the biggest pros and cons they feel the school has?
Thanks beforehand!

Submitted my deposit and response on Monday! Still haven't received confirmation so I'll probably call in tomorrow. Looking forward to meeting everyone next year!

If I got accepted on a Friday, do I have to pay my deposit on a Thursday or Friday 2 weeks away?

Accepted at Middletown yesterday 🙂
Interviewed 11/3.
I'll be putting my deposit down Monday.

I interviewed 11-17 at Middletown and this is my first choice. I absolutely love this school and think it's a perfect fit for me. I really hope I get in. Congrats to everyone with acceptances already!

so I have a session 2 interview, aka the one that starts at 10:30 am. does the day really go to 4 pm? that seems extremely long, especially since the session 1 day is listed as being way shorter. anyone do a session 2 interview yet with any insight?

Just letting you know my session for Harlem was the same, we didn't get out till much later, close to like 2:15 or 2:30

I really hope the 11/10 group from Harlem hears back this week, but today already passed and Thursday is a holiday :/

Why do you think today already passed? I still have hope till 4-5PM rolls around.
If it's not today tho, I think it'll probably be tomorrow or Wednesday (fingers crossed)
