Hey guys! Does anybody know the schedule for TOURO-COM students? When do classes start? When is orientation? Is there a winter break?

I know that there's a couple of weeks for winter break, when I interviewed on Tuesday the students had only one exam left on Wednesday before their break. I'm not sure about the orientation/beginning of classes though.

i'm still debating tourocom vs wvsom...though i'm leaning towards tourocom b/c the deposit is due in like 5 days for me. its difficult b/c the schools are polar opposites. any nuggets of wisdom out there (besides, "look into your heart," bleh).....??

Where do u want to be...in the city...or in the rurals....do u value prior stats or are u ok going to a school that is brand new. Both are very committed so thats not an issue...really for you...i think it comes down to where u want tolive....the city....or a rural area....costs will wind up being around the same cuz although tuition is cheaper in touro...cost of living is high...so i venture to guess its only going to be a few grand in one way or another in the end. I am attending touro next year...i had the oppurtunity to interview at WV but decided not to because I couldnt see myself living there..and if i wanted to go somewhere far (by flight) i would either have to drive like 2-3 hrs to a bigger airport or pay a lot more for a flight from the regional airport.

So my advice...pick the school where u want to live more....but i mean im sure other people have other considerations also...i just think thats an important factor for me

i agree location is key here, but it's tough to make a med school decision based on location alone.....

Obed said that 40 of 135 spots were filled on the 12/18 interview date. I suspect probably 3-5 more have been since then. No idea on the percentage interviewed who are accepted, but I suspect it's high.

I'd say its pretty low. considering they interview everyone that's complete at touro

I thought they prescreened a lot, and only interviewed less than 500.
I highly doubt it they will interview everyone who applied.

personally i didn't ask when i interviewed, it's been brought up several times in this thread.

but obed said the screening was pre-secondary.

Thanks. If that is the case, they are making a lot of money by charging for $200.
Anyhow, how does your interview go? How long did you get notified after your interview?

I do not think they interview everyone who completes their secondary application. At my interview, Obed said they pre-screen, send secondaries to the best candidates, then select applicants for interview based on the quality of their secondaries. (Meaning they have proven through their essay that they are really interested in medicine) It seems to me that the majority of people who received a secondary DO get an interview invite, unless their secondary is really poorly done/half assed. However, Obed said that unlike the class of 2011 who were all garuanteed interviews after having received secondaries, the class of 2012 is not. Hope that helps..

I don't know that there's anybody on this board who has received and completed a secondary but hasn't gotten an interview within a few weeks of completion. If you haven't, speak up. But that's evidence enough for me that secondary completion = interview.

As for the % accepted post-interview, I don't think they necessarily give secondaries(/interviews) to THAT many people, superfan. Interviewing 500 or so, as was stated above somewhere here, represents a pretty significant cut. Not to mention that it's still early in the process for them--they're not that close to filling up their class, and I would speculate there's a siginificant tightening of admissions once the class is filled.

well, the secondary cut of 500 is around the usual for all the touro's if not a bit more. Touro MI made a point to say that they screen post secondary and to relax about your credentials. Touro-NYC didn't mention anything of that nature past the pre-secondary screening. Regardless, if you're above a 24 MCAT and above a 3.0, and didn't write the secondaries/primaries while drunk, it's pretty safe to say you'll get an interview invite for all the schools. Just my 2cents, having interviewed at all the touro's this past month.

Yes. I would have thought the end of this week, but if Obed doesn't get back until tomorrow like Superfan says, then I'd imagine it could be Saturday or early next week.

Haha that's awful! I watched a documentary on PETA the other night, and I work in a lab that tests on mice. I had a nightmare that night that PETA sent an assassin after me who stabbed me with a sword on my hip. I called 911 and the dispatcher (mind you, with no medical training) said something along the lines of "A sword? Oh boy... We've never had anybody survive a sword stabbing before..." Aghast, I asked "...Well...do you think you could send an ambulance anyway?!" He said "I guess...." Pretty funny now but it was very upsetting at the time.

They take you into a dark room and make you sit on a chair with one leg shorter than the others. The only light is is shining into your eyes as they ask you MCAT verbal questions. If you give the wrong answers..... well maybe you will get a cigarette before the end comes.

In truth, check the interview review section of this website. It is closed file and Obed is a very nice guy who will guide you through it (although he does not do the interviews). Expect to be asked as to why DO, why Touro. Beyond that it is what you make of it and they are not out to get you.

as i read earlier and what happened to me, be ready to lead the interview. being closed file they don't have much to talk to you about and be prepared for hypothetical questions as well.

As a general point, making up a resume to hand your interviewers in a closed file interview has been well received each time I've done it. The interviewers appreciate the foundation for asking questions and it helps avoid awkwardness and general-ness/vagueness.

good point, i never thought of doing that myself. but also wouldn't know when it was for them time to look at it. even though I did lead the interview, there was very little awkward pauses inbetween questions, which there were a lot of. I feel like this would have worked better at an open file one, to remind them of stuff to ask you, but at least in my experience with closed file interviews, it wasn't "get to know you" but more "get to know how you think and react." just my experience between all the touro's. I guess we get letters mailed today huh?

as of when i interviewed, which was december 18th also, they said that they could accept every single person if htey wanted, but they're not gonna accept every single candidate that htey interview which is why im asssuming only 40 spots r filled...but dont worry about that, just try to rock ur interview, im sure ull do great and get in

The reason only 40 spots are filled is because their first interview date was 10/23 and they got back to those people on 11/11. There's only been a few more rounds of acceptances since. So we're not really late in the process for Touro.

I got waitlisted (high) at tourocom also and I interviewed on 10/23, the FIRST day of interviews so imagine how I felt! Since then, I was accepted at NSUCOM, followed by NYCOM. Point is: don't worry, everything works out best in the end.
