TouroCOM Waitlist

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
We were told the same thing. He said about 75% of the approximately 135 student class is filled. However, he mentioned that the high wait list does generally move pretty fast, although he didn't specify any numbers from last year (at least none that I could remember). My question was actually if anyone else noticed that during the interview, they were writing down numerical 'grades' for our answers? Did anyone see theirs?

Haha funny you should ask... yes I did notice that. Mine were all high, so I suppose I just suck somewhere else.

As a side note, would anybody be interested in a facebook wait list page?

If you don't mind my asking, were you wait listed or rejected? Also, what were your stats like (again, feel free not to answer)? And finally, how did the interview go?
I'm just trying to figure out what/who exactly are they looking for? Is there some magic formula? It just seems that there are people with low scores and high scores being rejected and accepted left and right. I wonder what it is that Touro is looking for and I wonder if they'd ever let us in on it?

Yea I have a 3.9 GPA probably like a 3.2 science GPA, mediocre MCAT (thats my downfall) tons of clinical experience, tons of diversity experience, a Master's in clinical psychology... I am wait listed high. I think, like I said my MCAT is what is holding me back, and yea I could have taken it again but I didn't. I work full time and go to school, so I really didnt think I had the time to invest in really bringing up my score. Thus, what is the point of paying a ton of money to possibly have my score drop.

From what I gleaned in the interview they really look for you to want to be in Harlem, treating underserved populations, and dedicated to the osteopathic philosophy. All of which I am, though I think the "DO question" was asked of me in such a way that I sortof fudged it in my interview. "What do you know about osteopathy?" always catches me off guard. Do you want me to cite Gevit's The DOs ? Do you want me to tell you why Im in love with Osteopathy? That of course is my problem and not theirs.

Hopefully the MCAT won't be my downfall and me letter of intent will better showcase my dedication to osteopathic medicine.

Well, I don't know about Touro, but I'm impressed. I'm also very surprised that with such a high GPA they wait-listed you. Personally, I always thought the GPA should out-rank the MCAT in terms of what's more important. Your MCAT score will only tell them your test taking skills on one particular day, whereas your GPA will give them a 4-year span of your abilities, but I guess my opinion doesn't really matter.

Although considering your masters in psych, maybe that was the problem. From what I've been hearing, they tend to like primary case, so perhaps that threw them off. I don't know what they wanted to hear in terms of the D.O. question, but I'm proud to say that I answered completely honestly. If that's what they wanted to hear; great, if not; oh well. Good luck to you!

hello everybody who is wait listed!
we are getting there, 15th May!
I try to distract myself everyday but it is so hard to wait...

how come you designate may 15 as the day people get off the waitlist? touro never set any exact date?

how come you designate may 15 as the day people get off the waitlist? touro never set any exact date?

The only thing I could think of is that that is the date Allopathic schools and AMCAS sets for being able to hold only one acceptance. Maybe TOURO follows this? As far as I know, AACOMAS does not set these regulations on D.O. schools, so you can technically hold onto an acceptance anywhere until Matriculation.

May 15th was the date that they started pulling people last year. To the best of my knowledge, they have not given a specific date that this will start happening for this cycle. One would imagine it will be around the same time 🙂

So has anybody heard anything at all from them?

When are we going to hear from them regarding waitlist? School starts like July 12, so that means there will be only about a month for the waitlist to move? Waiting is so hard!!!

I am standing right by you nycplease.
btw I thought the orientation starts on 19th no?
28th april was the last interview that means last acceptance letter will be out by tomorrow, from there waitlist can start to move. my only guess...

I'm at my work, with email and studentdoctor.net on my computer.

but I believe wait time is almost up.🙄

I'm not sure of the exact day orientation starts. All I know it is ealier than last year. Looks like from last year's thread taht the waitlist started moving on May 14th. I guess we have to wait until then. I really want to know where I stand on the waitlist so that way I get a better idea if I will be accepted. The wait is just brutal! I LOVE THIS SCHOOL

Wooooooo finally something!!! We are about to move my friends!
If you are no longer interested, please contact Obed so that the rest of us can have our shot!!!! Best of fortune to all 🙂

So I'm assuming we all got the same email last night. I'm with AgDoc, if you're not interested, please let him know and give the rest of us a chance!

Hey, I'm on the high-waitlist for TUCOM-NY, but I didn't get that email you guys are talking about. Is anyone else in my situation? And what should I do?

I'd call him. But I wouldnt be too worried. He only asked us to reply to the email if we were no longer interested in the school. I think maybe he already knows you are at the top of the waitlist 😕

there are a lot of people on that high- waitlist. it seems that last year there were much fewer. were all the high waitlisters offered admission (or deferred admission)?

There are over 130 people on the high waitlist!! This is discouraging. I doubt everyone will get in. HOw many people were there last year and how many people got in?

What about people on medium waitlist? what about them?

Im not sure guys but I think the number is actually very similar to the initial number last year. It seems like a lot of people were offered admissions, and some maybe not. In what I can glean, there were very few if any taken from the medium list last year.

We all have to remember that last year is history... lets all keep our eyes on this year! The only sure thing is that it promises to be a looong weekend! :luck:

Anyone else get the email that we'll find out after the 26th?

our waitlist spot. i thought everyone on the high waitlist got this. 😕

our waitlist spot. i thought everyone on the high waitlist got this. 😕

Sorry, got the same message afterwards. Going to be a long 10 days. Did not seem like many dropped off the list.

So I guess we will not hear about our rank until May 26th, but will Obed still update us next week if people drop off of the waitlist so we at least know how many people are on it?

There were 142 people on the high waitlist, 14 dropped so therefore there are now 128 people.

good luck to you waitlisters

Anyone have info. on stats for those accepted in state, and out?

The good news is that last year at least, he said that he offered acceptance to 50 people, so if the numbers are anything like last year, that's 39% acceptance of those from the waitlist, which doesn't seem that bad compared to other schools.

Actually he said over 50 ppl. I remeber reading on some threads that I searched for last year he got through the entire high waitlist and some medium. I dont know how it will be this year.

According to the email, after the initial screen he offered 50 acceptances, 27 of which were from the waitlist. Hopefully, we get our rankings a little sooner than may 26th.:luck:

Obed said that by last Friday, the second deposit was to be paid by those accepted already. How much in dollars is that total for those who are already accepted and attending Touro Com NY?

On the facebook page, under discussions, Obed said he would update us today on the waitlist movement. Did any of you get any updates today?

I believe he said he would update the first picks before next week, so this initial process could take until next week.

FYI - Obed just send out another email... Good luck to everyone on the waitlist! I am on the 'High' waitlist with most of you too!! Hopefully we'll get to meet in July!

Do you guys know if we will find out how many people are currently on the waitlist. I know that Obed said that the pool is getting smaller but I wonder how many people are on it now. ON the facebook page there 18 people.

Haha if there were only 18 I think we would all be in a pretty good spot right now. I would venture that there are far more.

Congrats!!! why are you not going?

Still trying to make the decision, but I got into Touro-CA a few months ago. For some reason, it took me about three months to get my "automatic" interview at Touro-NYC after I was complete. I did go to the interview, despite having paid my $2000 to Touro-CA, because I knew I would love to be in NYC. The school was great, and I after the interview I was 100% ready to accept an offer to attend even though the school seemed a bit disorganized due to the newness. The decision didn't come after two weeks, like Obed said it would. I guess Spring Break took the Admissions Office by surprise. I've luckily had a lot of time to read these forums and evaluate my position. I currently live 30 minutes from Touro-CA and wouldn't even have to move if I went there. Touro-NYC, however, would land me in the hippest city in the world. But it seems like there isn't enough support offered by the school to make a move that big. I have read about a lot of strange policies at the school that are unfavorable to students who are having a hard time academically (or who get pregnant). I also don't like that the official student health plan is getting us covered through Medicaid. The main factor will probably be the lack of quality OMM at the school. Also, all the teachers are brand new as of last year, there are no rotations in Manhattan, and I have no preexisting support network in the city. All that being said, the choice is a little bit arbitrary. Neither school was even close to my first choice, but I would feel very lucky to be able to go to either. Good luck to everyone!

whatever chose, good luck in medical school!! 🙂
