UCLA DGSOM vs. YALE

Great points ChemEngMD. I do like the flexibility in the Yale system and the free 5th year; but sadly I do somewhat procrastinate sometimes. I actually decided on UCLA 2 weeks ago because I thought it'd be cheaper. but recently just received Yale's package and it'll be cheaper for me to go to Yale.. weird.. but now I gotta reconsider my decision. fml.
Congratulations on such a happy dilemma! I think the most important issue is whether you can brush procrastination aside and keep up with the rest of the class. If so, the Yale System would be a huge plus for its flexibility. If not, sounds like UCLA would be your best bet.

Thanks samsunimomo! Aside from the procrastination issue.. do you think I should take the match list into account? Yale had a very impressive list this past year; and it seemed like a higher percentage of Yale students matched into really good schools compared to UCLA?

1st World problems - both are top notch programs. Congrats! You'll be more than fine at either place and have great residency choices - just go to the place where you think you'll be happiest (unless the price difference is substantial).

For me, the money difference would have to be pretty big to turn down Southern California for New Haven.

I think this also ties in well with how much work you are willing to put in for preclinicals/STEP/clinicals, and if you do well on either school, no door will be closed to you! On the flip side, no amount of prestige will help you make up for a bad academic performance.
