anyone else got an interview scheduled for March? yikes, it's late, i know! i'm an in-state living literally five minutes down the road from the Health Center. . .

Karen. Are you an applicant? Already accepted? You seem really invested in UConn.

Feel free to private message me if you have any questions about UConn.

(BTW I am a fourth year there)

I am a re-applicant this year. I wish I could answer "yes" to your second question...how I wish that. 🙂 Yes, I am invested... will do whatever it takes to get in. I will pm you if I have questions. Thanks!

yes 🙂

I interviewed at UConn back in mid-October and ended up on the WL (1 of 5 that I'm hung up on). Its an amazing school, especially for CT residents, and the students all seeemed to be a genuinely supportive, tight knit community. Definitely my #1 if I managed to get yanked off WL this summer.

Anyways, hope all of you interviewing in the coming weeks have better luck than I!

As I've read through these posts, I've also realized how invested you are in this school. I wish you the best of luck. Maybe we'll interview on the same day, although I hope not since I don't think I'd stand a chance against you! 😉

Hey, I think you should write a letter. I know some people think they don't help but I really think that if you told them that they are definitely your number one choice...how could that hurt? At the very least, you'd come off the waitlist before someone else around you on the list for expressing the interest. Good luck to you.

i just got back from my interview, the whole day was awesome!

anyone know if they're still giving out interview invites?

I totally believe you! I had the exact same impression after my interview last year. I don't know about other schools so will not speak about them, but UCONN med school definitely knows how to present itself well. Good luck everyone!

That's nice of you to say, but I am sure you stand a great chance. It's really too bad that so many great people have to be turned away every year, but I also know that those who refuse to give up will eventually make it. I will make it. Every determined person will! Good luck!

anyone know if they're still giving out interview invites?

I know they first inform you about their plan to interview you and after several weeks someone calls you to schedule the exact date. I think the admissions office gets in touch with those to be interviewed within 2-3-4 weeks after file complete status. I don't know how often they take people off their "hold" list.

i asked dr. sanford today and he said about 60% of the class has been filled so far.. so there is still hope for all of us 🙂

anyone who was placed on a pre-interview hold hear anything yet ?

Really? I heard they already over accepted!

Good luck to all of you waiting to hear from UCONN. I graduated last year and have nothing but positive things to say about my education and experiences with UCONN. It is a small school and there will always be great applicants that don't get due to the large number of applicants. Why are the numbers so skewed in terms of women to men? I have been told it is combination of factors, including more women applicants and that the female applicants have overall been better qualified.

I am pretty busy in resdiency now and really don't have time to respond to lots of PMs, but please don't put much stock in the negative comments made on this thread by a rejected applicant. UCONN provides an excellent education in a friendly and supportive environment. Are there things that could be improved? Of course, just as at every other med school.

For the poster who indicated Dr. Ardalino has no say in the process and that Dr. Sanford runs the show... what????. The admissions committee is exactly that, a committee....a group of people. Drs. Sanford and Ardalino, along with many other individuals contribute to the admissions process.

Again, good luck to all of you waiting. I remember the days well.

Really? I heard they already over accepted!

from who? Im gonna take the dean's word 😛

he said that they will be interviewing through march and they usually dont let the committee get too far ahead of the admissions dept and they put a lot of people on hold until they finish their interviews up and then theyll fill up the class fast. and pull people off wait list as required

Well, I can't give you the name, but I have no reason to suspect dishonesty. I like Sanford's version much better so let's leave it at that. Good luck.

Ardalino himself says he has nothing to do with decisions. My interviewer last year said that Sanford is the main guy.

I'm sorry, I am forgot about Dr. Ardolino's position now. I was more taken aback by the statement that Dr. Sanford "runs the show". It made it sound as though Dr Sanford was the only one with a say in the process.
I would tell everyone applying to listen to Dr. Sanford; he is a great guy. He knows the process inside and out, and can be a great resource.

Maybe things changed since you applied ... Im just saying that he told me that I did'nt matter that he knew me cause he didnt have a vote. Just quoting the man himself ...

For those who did interview, how long was your response to the PBL question? Just curious.

Mine was like 8 pages single spaced ... It pretty much makes or breaks your app ... I heard there was one kid who got in with a 28 and a 3.3 because he wrote a 27 page reply to the pbl exercise ... might be a rumor tho

dr sanford said not to spend too much time on it, so i didnt, i sent in about 3/4 of a page

Mine was a solid paragraph but i got 111.7% on the CT Quiz. That really made my application.

haha, i did the quiz last year and dr sanford also never said for us to email that back in so i dont think i have to do it again

I wonder if any of those emailed responses even matter in the whole process. Sure, you get something like "Good job" after sending it, but I doubt they attach your answers to your application.

Anyone know when the next adcom meeting is?

Wasn't it tonight? Or maybe they don't meet every Tuesday. Come on, Giddyup, I know you know. 🙂

posted the same message twice and then deleted the duplicate

haha ur right.

They GENERALLY meet every other tuesday at 5 pm. I do not know when the last time they met so dont know for sure. But it was either this past tuesday or it will be next tuesday.

good luck

i interviewed a couple wednesdays ago, dr sanford wrote me 'good job on your pbl' 🙂

good news is good news, i hope the next email from him is that ive been accepted :luck:

I don't think they email acceptances. It will likely be a phone call and/or official letter. They email if you are waitlisted. Good luck.

that would be a call worth waking up to

As true as it is that there seems to be only 3-4 of us watching the UConn thread, what's up with four days since a post??!! I had to go all the way back to the 7th page just to find you, "UCONN News, Acceptances, and Waitlists." What's up Constitution Staters?! I, for one, will not be a party to the dissolution of this thread. To that end, anyone else interviewing Feb. 29th?

I for one am just extrememly frustrated with UConn. I completely understand how competitive it is...i was waitlisted last year. But after that I set up a meeting with Dr. Sanford and discussed what i thought i needed to do to improved my application. I did everything he asked and more. And i thought i completely rocked my interview and im on the waitlist again. It is just extremely frustrating.

such a tiny class size does not help at all!

goodluck to the rest of you

I know how you feel, i went through the same thing last year. waitlist, all that jazz. Asked dr. sanford what i could do to improve and have done that . I am still waiting for my decision tho, but just the size of the class makes it a major obstacle. Like i said earlier, he said 60% of the class was already filled when I interviewed so that leaves 40% of 80 students left (32), and consider that approx half will likely be girls, im probably competing for 16 spots.. ouch.

Sorry to hear that, Giddyup. Where are you on the waitlist and when did you hear? I haven't interviewed yet.

I just couldn't bump the thread any more.

Got a letter prob like 2 weeks ago. They haven't ranked their waitlist yet.

Not to poach your methods Giddyup, but when did you set up your meeting with Dr. Sanford? While you were on the WL last year?

Yes last spring when i was told I was on the medium priority WL. I mean i understand how competitive the process has gotten and especially at UConn

Hopefully, I am high priority this time around when they rank their list. But if after all my improvements I am in the same spot as last year. I am just going to have a lot of questions. I can handle not getting in...I have other options but I will need to know why?

hey giddyup, what were ur base stats (mcat, gpa) if u dont mind me asking i heard the avg stats are so high this year

I suppose they will rank the waitlist in April/May.

I suppose they will rank the waitlist in April/May.

The waitlist email said they would reconsider WL people in the "February through April window" and then send out the rankings. I love how non-specific they are. Uh, yeah, we'll rank it...sometime.
