Does anyone know if we are supposed to send fall transcripts?

I emailed them and they said " We will be requesting later on updated transcripts from those applicants that continue in the admissions process. Therefore, no need to submit updated transcripts at this time."

My interview is on Jan 12th at 12:30 and I am so nervous! Does anyone have any tips for the interview??

Hey guys I’m a first year at UF, congrats to everyone who was offered interviews! Feel free to reach out for any questions you may have about the process. I absolutely love it here, best of luck to you all, and go Gators!!

Hey guys, current 4th year here. This year's interviews will be slightly different in years past in that they start a little earlier in the day and end earlier. In years past there were optional student Q&A panels in the afternoon but this year there will be a reception after the last interview slot where interviewies can talk to their interviewers and current students about UF's program, vet life, and vet school in general. The interview will still be 45 minutes and you will have 3 interviewers (a faculty member, a vet alumni, and a current 3rd/4th year student) and only 2 of the interviewers have access to your file however they do not all necessarily look at your file. After your interview you will be taken on a tour of school which family members can attend. My biggest recommendation for interviews is just to relax and be yourself 🙂

Also to add to the whole tracking/curriculum thing: Technically UF has three tracks (small, large, and mixed) and you just have to meet the core rotation and class requirements for those tracks to graduate. However, you can change your track at any time and many of my classmates have changed tracks at some point during 3rd and 4th year. For electives you can take any elective that you want in addition to the required classes, and generally if there is a time conflict most courses will allow you to audit for free. Auditing allows you to get the lecture material and online lecture recordings for the course but you do not have to complete any assignments or exams, but as such you will not receive any credit hours for it.
In addition UF's program is a little unique in that you start clinics a year earlier. So at the end of your second year in May you begin your 3rd year on clinics and will complete clinic rotations until the end of December of that year. Come January you will be back in the classroom for your 3rd year electives until early May. You will then have the summer to complete optional externships and will start back in the classroom in August for your 4th year electives. This is really nice because during this time you will start studying for the NAVLE and will sit for it in late November. I really appreciated this aspect because I didn't have to worry about being on a crazy rotation like internal medicine while trying to study for boards like other students at other schools do. Finally in January of 4th year you will go back onto clinics until mid May when you graduate. One other nice thing to add is that even though you choose your clinical rotations in the spring of 2nd year, you are allowed to change your senior rotations in the fall of senior year which is awesome because they are constantly trying to add new elective rotations, and your interests usually change after your first round of clinics.

Feel free to ask me any questions you may have. Best of luck on interviews!

I have been a lurker since I got an email from UF saying that I was put on the alternate list for interviews. Thank you so much for telling us all that information. I was wondering if you know how the alternate list works?

Hello everyone! Do any current students, or those that have interviewed in the past, have any advice on answering the "tell me about yourself" question? I hear conflicting information on how to approach this and I don't want to bomb my first interview right off the bat! Thank you in advance 🙂

The reason you get different answers is because there is no one way to answer that. Just explain who you are as a person and what makes you tick. boom. done. 🙂

How have interviews gone this past weekend? Any tips? lol

My interviewers were all very nice and seemed like they really wanted to get to know me! And they were very helpful with answering questions at the end of the interview and at the meet and greet (would highly recommend going to that!!). Don't worry about repeating/explaining things that are already in your app, since not all the interviewers have seen it. Also, I had to take a moment to think before several of the questions, and none of the interviewers had a problem with this. I think it was preferable to me babbling while I collected my thoughts lol

How did you prepare?

I looked up common interview questions online, and researched the school. It's a behavioral interview, so mostly about your own background/how you handle different types of situations - nothing to be scared of!

Hi everyone! I’m a first year vet student at UF currently and just want to congratulate all those who got interviews this cycle! Don’t feel bad if you didn’t, I did not get an interview invite my first time applying. Also, I had my name tag on upside down and they still accepted me, so I guess, just be yourself. Feel free to message me if you have any questions!

Hi I was extended an interview offer for January 26th and I'm very excited. At the moment I am finishing my undergrad at Florida State University and im scheduled to graduate this Spring. Unfortunately, I was just dropped from microbiology lab, not lecture, because my school is no longer offering it in the spring. I know in the interview email it said to contact them right away if I can't complete all the prerequisite coursework before the end of the spring 2019 semester, and I am writing an email now but I just wanted to see how worried I should be. I can take the lab in the summer because unfortunately, no other university in my town is offering microbio lab this semester.

I would probably call instead of email, you’re guaranteed a quicker response and can start planning out what you’re going to do. I’m not sure that many (or any) schools allow you to wait until the summer to finish any prereqs

I know a current 1st year DVM student who finished two pre-reqs their summer semester. I'd be sure to schedule a phone call to completely explain and maybe look-up if ANY schools offer an online lab. I took Bio 2 Lab online, weird as it sounds

Also does anyone know how to send the thank you notes to them?

You email it to UF and they will forward it to them. They give you a packet at the interview with the names of all your interviewers and the email to send it to.

Hi everyone! I’m interviewing this weekend, super excited and honored! I’m a little worried about technical questions related to vet med. I’ve been reviewing some cases that I’ve seen while working. Any other advice from current students or people interview this week/next on preparing for technical questions?

Hi! I’m a first year student. First of all, congrats, what a huge accomplishment. Secondly,I am going to be very blunt and honest with you. If you made it this far into the application process then you met the requirements for shadowing veterinarians. In other words, DO NOT STRESS NOT HAVING TECHNICIAL SKILLS. If for some reason they were to ask you something technical, in my honest opinion, just say you don’t know. There is no fault in being honest, just be sure to explain how you would solve said question or learn said technique.

I can’t speak for the interviewers, but I doubt they would ask you any hard technical questions. You’re not a vet yet, so they can’t expect you to know everything. If by some weird chance they did, I agree with @SoFloGryffindor just say you don’t know and you would have to look it up or practice something more.

Thanks everyone! An advisor was telling me to know how to answer technical questions, but I guess they were mistaken! Thanks a ton!

Just out of curiosity, did anyone who has already interviewed with UF this past weekend remember any specific “current event” questions? I’m having trouble finding articles that would stand out to them and myself that they could ask me about.

Anyone staying in the AC Hotel Marriott for interviews this weekend? I’m flying in tomorrow afternoon and staying until Sunday morning and would love to meet some other people!🙂

Does anyone know when we will hear back after interviews? Sorry if this was already discussed lol

I live in Gainesville if you want me to show you around the city after interviews are over! I have my interview at 12:30! My friend also is a current first year and we can meet with her and talk about her experience so far if you want!

I haven’t interviewed yet so I can’t answer your question. I follow some accounts on Twitter that keeps me up to date on vet news like AVMA-CAN, dvm360, and DFA CVM. Hope this helps.
