UF 2024-2025 (c/o 2029 hopefuls)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
There is a secret (not so secret) drop box with pdfs of all of the recommended textbook you will be supplied with. The only one we consistently used was dissection of the dog in small animal anatomy. The lectures and notes alone were more than sufficient for other classes. Some people wanted hard copies of particular textbooks (eg. For specialty) and went out and bought those. I personally didn’t buy any.

amazing !!! thank you!!

Does anyone know if they wait until after April 15 to call all waitlist candidates off the list? For instance since someone already rejected their in-state seat, would they typically call ASAP or wait until after the deposit deadline when more spots potentially open?

I think they call as they go as someone got off the IS waitlist a couple weeks ago and posted on here. But not sure if that is how they do it all the time.

Does anyone have any opinions regarding the following apartments? I'm looking for a 1 bedroom just for the first year and want to make sure I'm not accidentally living in a popular undergraduate apartment complex! Any insight is appreciated!! I looked at the list sent earlier but a lot of those recommendations unfortunately don't have 1-bedrooms available.

Strongly recommend you pass on aqua. I lived there as a resident and I’ll admit it was under a different management company at the time and my residency was several years ago now, so things may have improved, but from looking online, I doubt it. The surface of the apartments may look decently updated and the location is nice but the internal guts are ancient and it was maintenance issue after maintenance issue for three years I lived there. It was a “gated community” but the gates were always broken and stayed open. They’d bandaid a maintenance problem instead of actually fixing it. I had to call them easily a dozen times over one summer because my ac would quit. They’d put more refrigerant in it and then within a couple weeks we’d be back out of order again. Took at least a dozen times and me finally insisting to the manager that they call an actual ac repair man out to fix it before they found and actually repaired the leak. Also my internet went out and it took them over a month to give the internet company permission to fix it. I couldn’t authorize it because they needed to cut open walls and re-run lines. And once while I was out of town, my water heater started leaking. My neighbor had noticed it dripping into their downstairs apartment. But the apartment people didn’t call me to tell me there was any issue, I just walked in at 11 pm after two weeks away to my stuff moved, damp carpets, blowers running, and no water. Also the water lines to the complex were always breaking and we’d suddenly be out of water for hours with no warning. And again, this was with a different owner so maybe they’re faster to fix things now, but I highly doubt they updated the internal machinery of all the units which was what honestly needed to happen.

Current UF student! Theory and Lark are very popular undergrad apartments so lots of parties/pres and loud!

Thank you all for your replies! Last one, what about On20?? It's fully furnished and not super pricey. Has anyone lived there and liked it?

Don’t live there personally but I know people who do and have liked it. The location is really nice and I think the apartments are very modern.

Is anyone else having trouble finding apartments before an august 16th move in day? My roommate and I are looking for 2x2 and our best options so far are the hideaway and cabana beach and both of those start the 16th

Yes. My partner and I were struggling to find anything before August 9th specifically. I ended up submitting an application for a privately owned townhome I found on Zillow with a May move in date because that works for my partner. I suggest looking on Zillow or for apartments that are not technically “student housing” because Gainesville isn’t that large so most will be relatively short driving distance to the school. Greenwich Green Apartments, stoneridge apartments, the Laurels, Aspen ridge apartments, or Towne Parc Apartments were some I found but didn’t end up touring. Hope that helps!

I had to ask my apartment if they could make an exception to have me move in a week early and they did for a fee. A lot of people ran into this issue :/

Hello! Is anyone still looking for a roommate for a 2x2 near campus?

Good afternoon all. Bought a 3 bedroom house for my Son and have one room left to rent. It is a downstairs room and is a small room. Has its own dedicated full bathroom right beside the bedroom. It has a closet area in room that is going to be upgraded to include shelving, drawers and a rod to hang clothes on. Message me if you would like to discuss and see pictures. It is about 7 minute drive from UFCVM and 15 minute bike ride.

Just to clarify....we aren't able to park in front of the veterinary academic building for school?

There is a small green lot just east of the VAB and just west of the VTH for students. Residents and faculty can also park in those student spots (in addition to their blue and orange areas/lots they can park in any green student spot too) and the spots fill quickly. There’s an overflow lot northwest of the VTH across 16th st and there are a few green spots down by animal science but those are almost always full too.

Has anyone received any information or emails from UF since sending in their acceptance forms? Just making sure I'm not the only one not hearing anything from them. Also, current students, is there a contract or anything that we can expect to sign, or is it just our acceptance forms?

No response after submitting the forms yet. The impression I've got is that more will come over after the 15th of April.

I got a response from Jarron! He just said thank you for submitting the forms and that they will be in touch soon with more steps.

Don’t forget that the weekend of football games they steal that smidge of available student parking and give it to booster tailgaters ❤️

There’s not really weekend work in pathology, so I didn’t have to really deal with that. It’s a good point!

Hi! I know they mentioned something about a Facebook group being made for the incoming class…does anyone know where that will be? I’m interested in finding roommates for next year (I’m a female who just graduated college) I think Cottage grove would be my top choice 🙂

is anyone else having trouble with the links on the acceptance email bringing you to the matriculation and acceptance forms? Mine keeps saying page not found!
Wait im having the same issue - did you figure it out by chance?

The webmaster of 2028 posted the housing doc into the other class Fbs today. Should be out soon.

Just got accepted off of the OOS WL.

Congrats!!!! Did they call?

I saw that one person in the Waitlist Forum got pulled of IS, but that’s all I’ve seen so far! Hoping to hear something soon 🤞

Is there any idea of when the Facebook group will be made or when housing recommendations will be shared?

I’m speculating they’re waiting for the class to be finalized
