Glad to see I'm not alone! If I could just get in at U of A, I could at least just relax...

So I heard that Tucson admissions was actually going to send out a few acceptances today (~15%) and then again on December 15th (~20%) and then again in January.

Anyone by chance heard any good news this morning or know someone who has???

Just got the acceptance email!! They've started!!!!!!😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀

No good news for me. But I did hear this straight from the admissions office: "We are planning on sending our first accept notifications out during the first week of December"

Anyone else hear something good?

Just got the e-mail and couldn't be happier. Best of luck to all of you.

Hey guys, so I believe Tucson accepted around 10% of their incoming class (11 students) today. Of those 11 students I know three of them and all of them have ridiculously high stats. I think UA has definitely made some strides in changing their admissions criteria so that the most qualified students are accepted early on. No news yet on the Phx campus as far as I am aware.

Congrats you two! Anyone else refreshing their e-mail every five seconds hoping for the acceptance to show up? Oh well I guess I didn't get it on the first day. I wonder how they're accepting? Based on when you interviewed? Will the first few months of interviews still be considered in the late-December acceptance pool? I know I could be waiting until next summer to get an acceptance from UofA, I just want it to happen now though! Ahhh! 🙂

Cool thanks for the insight. Makes me feel better about not getting an acceptance this early. Knowing that they settled on 10% of the class reassures me that just because I didn't get accepted today doesn't mean I'm not being considered. 👍

So do we know how many of the 11 are out yet? All of them? Any reason for me to just be staring at my email all day?

It could have been up to about 15% of 110 people. The admissions usually sends the emails out uniformely and from what I heard the next release date is December 15th where they will give out another 20% of the spots...

I think we can quit compulsively checking our in-boxes. Ann from Tucson informs me that:

"The first accept notices were emailed this morning at 9am by both campuses."

So if you didn't get an email yet, you won't be getting one today. I unfortunately fall into this category. 🙁

I guess we just have to be patient.

Congrats to those that got in today! Rock on and say good bye to life as you know it and hello to studying. I unfortunately didnt get an email today either lol. But keep your heads high if you didnt. And UofA does accept lots of people with unreal high stats, I know a few. Thats a bad rumor, but UofA does also take students that are more non-trad. And you can be non-trad with amazing stats too. For sure, there is more basis on things like clinical exp and interviews too.

Any questions just call Ann or Tanisha, both are absolutely amazing people! They will help you when ever they can but just be patient if they take a day or two to respond to you. Always trust what they say over what you hear/read else where

By the way, the emails go out usually between 8-9 in the morning, so if nothing by that time, then you prob wont be in that batch.

I wonder why UA changed the timeline of when they give out the acceptances this year.

Maybe to retain better applicants... For example, I know some very qualified people who were accepted to multiple schools last year. Since their acceptance from UA was given far later than other schools, some had already decided upon other schools for a number of reasons... eg signed a lease, bought a home, or got fed up living with indecision. I know the uncertainty is killing me, haha. An early acceptance would be so, so nice.

I think this timeline they are using that you mentioned, zissou, is pretty wise. This way they can start making their acceptance list early and then send out acceptances in order from top (most qualified) to the bottom as the list develops. This matches what you were saying Indy, so nobody without exceptionally amazing stats/qualifications should be worried at all... yet. 🙂

How high is ridiculous?

Ridiculous that you didn't get accepted, UA has the funkiest adcoms I swear... In anycase, you won't need luck, you'll def get into UA if not Stanford.👍

For the two that got accepted already, mind letting us know when you interviewed??! I'm curious to see if they are going in order.. And anyone accepted to Phx yet or just Tucson?

I was accepted yesterday as well...i interviewed in Tucson on the 27th of October and in Phoenix on the 7th of November.

Congrats! So it doesn't look like they are going too strictly by interview date... that is good to know. 👍

I wonder why they had said 2nd and 4th week of Dec., then went ahead and surprised everyone with the end of the 1st week? Knowing that they are most likely knocking out the highest stats first mixes me up more than ever as I have a below average MCAT but a way above average GPA. I hope everyone that continues to get accepted (the 15th is the next date?) lets us know what their strongest areas were so we can figure out exacty how UA is taking this. Congrats to everyone who was in the 1st round and good luck to the rest of us!

Congratulations to those who were accepted!! I guess I was a little behind...I opened this thread today to see if acceptances were released today, but really they were 2 days ago. So, I too will be practicing my patience for another few weeks...distract yourselves with fun and relaxation--who knows when that opportunity will come again! 🙂

I interviewed in PHX 10/18 and TUC 10/21...

And I haven't heard anything from PHX yet.

I swear they just throw darts @ the apps, I had a friend a few years ago with better stats than mine and they were waitlisted.

Good luck to everyone else, maybe another surprise acceptance batch will go out soon!

How high is ridiculous?

Hey, I just looked at your MDApps and I am surprised you were not accepted first round with a 4.0/35. Of the three students I know their average GPA was around 3.98 and MCAT around 33-34. I have heard rumors that the average MCAT from the first batch was 36, well above the 29 average. I am applying with lower than average stats so I expect either a rejection or waitlist. Unfortunately I am retaking the MCAT in January so looks like winter break may be rough 🙁 Good luck to everyone applying!

Don't lose hope, people with lower stats still have a chance. Good luck!

I really wanna figure out their process! I'm a very average applicant numbers wise, but very strong in my ECs and PS. I also plan to practice medicine in rural AZ/underserved areas and I mentioned that in my secondary and interview because they said they give that special consideration. I wonder how much special consideration they give that... If they're just going down their list of highest numbers to lowest, there is a very good chance that they won't be getting to me anytime soon!

No one will ever figure out their process just do your best and see what happens. Some of the strongest folks in the classes are re-applicants. No one knows why they were denied the first or second time but that's the nature of medical admissions. If you think you are strong, then be happy and enjoy life. Before you know it you will be spending hours at the library studying. And if you dont get it, then re-apply and try again. Doesnt mean you are not good enough or capable, its just the luck of the draw. Good Luck 😎

Thanks man, same to you. I don't know what to make of all the randomness. It kind of surprises you that MED school admissions aren't a science! On one hand, I have no problem with randomness. Given that my MCAT isn't exactly going to walk me in the door, a little randomness may be all I need to get an acceptance. On the other hand, now knowing what the heck is going on and all the unpredictability has seriously driven me crazy...

Krosburg you are awesome. 👍 I always view medical school as a shining beacon of goodness that will make my life complete and always forget about the real beast of burden it will make out of me.

Thanks for frequenting here and knocking the neuroticism out of us all. 😀

Maybe medicine is 100% science, but "doctoring" is probably more an art than it is a science... I would think.

Sorry I try not to be too cynical but with our neuro final in 24 hours and maybe the windowless study rooms are getting to my brain. Medical school is a blast and I think all of us really do enjoy it. But it does come with a lot of hard work. Especially right around finals! But we will survive 😎 I do think that all of my class thought the time between acceptance letters and orientation was the greatest part, walking on air. Now I have never been so happy to see Christmas break before lol. May the little elves bring you letters of acceptance and too all a good night! 😀

I do think that all of my class thought the time between acceptance letters and orientation was the greatest part, walking on air.

Yes, I'm imagining some serious bliss if this happens to me.

And I'm sure I will enjoy all the hard work medical school has in store for me as well. I mean, I have scheduled every one of my semsters in undergrad so far completely full... so, I'm either a glutton for punishment or I really like staying busy. I do a lot of complaining, but I must like it... somehow... deep down.

Good luck on the neuro final! 👍

So Monday will be the next release date?! I really hope they release more names too..

Yup looks like monday will be the next release for Tucson. Although I heard Phx was going to be following the same time of release pattern as Tucson, but I havn't heard of anyone being accepted there yet....

Good luck to everyone!👍

When do you think the subcommittees started to meet for this admissions release? I only got my email that said my application was released to admissions a few days before thanksgiving.

Hmmmm that I have no clue on. I know that some of the people in the first acceptance batch interviewed in late Oct or Nov though so it can't just be people who were complete by Nov....

Monday--sounds great!! I know a girl who got in to Phoenix, so they must be sending out a few acceptances; she had a 4.0/32.

I actually interviewed after the cut off for the first round of selection.

I might be thinking about this a little too hard but have been wondering if UofA will place more emphasis on MCAT/GPA with the first year students not being able to pass step 1??

Also I remember reading some where that they have received about 600 applications this year. Do you guys know if this is for both tucson and phx or just the tucson campus?

They won't be changing the emphasis of academics. First, the cause of the step 1 scores has been attributed to the change in curriculum made when those students started at U of A. Its not an issue of students being less capable, just that the curriculum wasn't all there at first. Second, even if the lower scores were a product of the students, they wouldn't be changing their philosophies for what is important in accepting someone. People accepted into the school for next year won't be taking the exam for over 2 year from now, so they aren't going to drastically change things so that they can have higher scores a few years from now. Both of those being said, they'll surely do what they have done in the past.

As far as 600 applicants, I wouldn't be surprised... I think my MSAR said 500 something applied last year, so an increase in 50 or more applications is to be expected. At the same time, there was a proportional increase in seat number at the phx campus, so its probably nothing to worry about.

I can just keep praying that I get that acceptance on Monday... Given the insanity of this process, I've found the best thing to do is just pray and have hope!

Anxiously hoping for some good news tomorrow! Or since its 11, almost today!

Yep, me too, I'm currently doing some praying. I will still be happy to get the email at sometime in the next five months (though today sure wouldn't hurt!)

Haha ya it would sure make the rest of finals and xmas break much more relaxing and enjoyable! Nice little early present from Saint Nick😀

Does anyone know how they format the acceptance roll-outs? For instance, do they send out enough on the first roll-out to theoretically fill the class, knowing many will defer, or is it only a certain %. And do they start from the bottom of the alphabet or the top? Just a few questions to kill the time and anxiety. I hate balancing anticipation and a final exam simultaneously...lol

So I heard that Tucson admissions was actually going to send out a few acceptances today (~15%) and then again on December 15th (~20%) and then again in January.

They are doing it by a certain % of the class. I don't have more details about what % they will be releasing in January. I think in my interview they said they will do the majority and all waitlists and rejections in March.

Anyone by chance heard any good news this morning or know someone who has???
