Pout...Anyone know when the alternate list/rejections are going out? Anybody talked to Phoenix about how many spots they have left?

Congratulations to all those who did get in! Best of luck!

and now please allow me to be pouty mcpouterson today. 🙁

I think I'm gonna go find some batting cages today. I need to hit something...hard.:beat:

Even though there are only 30 spots left to fill the class, I have to keep telling myself that there will be plenty of waitlist spots as well. Just look at last year's thread, there were quite a few people who were taken off the waitlist just from SDN.

I was accepted this morning to the Tucson campus

I called them and they said that they accepted 80/110 slots so far (including this morning), and the last mailing will be on the 23rd, then alternate/waitlist.

Also, I forgot to add, I will most likely not be attending, so there's an extra slot for you guys still wanting to go here

30 spots to go! Let's all be happy! rkells - are you rennykim's bro?

Another empty inbox at 9:00... I'm hopeful I'd get in off the waitlist, I just really hope I'm not downright rejected. I couldn't find any info on those who were rejected last year.

bummer... I was thinking that acceptances were going to be sent out on friday. I got an invite to interview at NYMC instead. But I was really hoping to hear from UA this week 🙁

Congrats to everyone who did get in

AZFutureDoc, I am a reapplicant from last year and was completely rejected by all of the medical schools I applied to (10-or-so MD, 0 DO). No waitlist, nothing. Of course I was devastated, but I did my best to strengthen my application and this time around, I've been fortunate enough to be accepted to both the Tucson and Phoenix campuses (will be attending Phoenix, so there's another spot for you Tucson hopefuls). Invitroderm is right, be positive and don't be discouraged, no matter what the outcome. I speak from experience when I say believe me, you are qualified, sooner or later they will see that.

Thanks for the uplifting message... 🙂 Congrats on your acceptances!

Hey, Koob, I was just wondering: why Phx over Tucson? I have to admit I was bummed about hearing from Phx and not Tucson, so please, will you tell me why you'd prefer Phx in order to boost my confidence in going there?! Not that I'm not excited, for sure 🙂

Thanks a lot for the kind words Koob. Because of them, today might actually not be a day of moping/being depressed! Congrats on the acceptance, I'm looking forward to mine. 🙂

I'm feeling much better after a trip to the batting cages. I highly recommend it for those of you still smarting over not getting accepted today.🙂

Congrats to those who got in...I heard this year there are only about 550 applicants which is 100-300 lower than these past few cycles. I hope everyone gets in...and I mean EVERYONE :biglove::biglove::biglove:+pity+

To those who got acceptances, how long did you hear after getting the "File Complete" email?

Accepted to Phx!!! Congrats guys. I'm really hoping to hear from Tucson though.

Congrats to everyone who had good news today. And good luck to everyone who is still waiting.

Also, to the current students- I will be looking to rent a room in Tucson and keeping my house in Tempe. (Partners job is in Phx and of course the market stinks) What is the approximate cost of a room? Near campus? Farther out? Not to jump the gun, but I have an offer in a house about 30 in drive that I am considering.

:xf:Hoping for the waitlist...:xf:

Me too!! :xf::xf::xf::xf::xf::xf::xf::luck:

But if we are REALLY lucky, let's hope for a full acceptance this next cycle! We still got one more in February... let's not give up hope!

Seeing as I got rejected last year, it would probably be a miracle if I even made the WL this time... but I'm still hoping :xf:

Be positive! You never know, that exact story played out for a few people in our class 😎

I'm pretty sure no one gets a full ride at UA so good luck with that one. Unless you want to do rural medicine...then you're a shoe in!

Haha well if we are going to be serious about this then I would be ecstatic if I were even the very last person taken off the waitlist the day school starts. But I can always hope for the VERY best 😉

Congrats to those who got in. As for me, I am getting let down by UofA like a lot of you. I have a 4.0 GPA and a 33 MCAT with a lot of research and volunteering. I don't know what else they want. I mean they have about 150 spots and only 550 applicants. I gotta say im pretty disappointed but I'm plannign to retake the mcat and to reapply next year hopefully to get into someplace better.

My god Willreapply, our stats are almost identical (33, 3.9, LOTS of research and extracurriculars.). I just can't figure it out...I would think our apps would be more competitive.

Kingfish and Willreapply,

I commiserate with you guys. My MCAT score is higher, GPA is slightly lower but from a tough private school, unique EC's, five solid LoR's, strong evidence of motivation, and I felt my Tucson interview was solid with no missteps (PHX less so). Yet, no word from UofA. I didn't even get that Christmas card that had been mentioned earlier in this thread. I already got into a school undoubtedly more competitive and ranked higher than UofA and am keeping my fingers crossed for an acceptance from an awesome top ten school. I feel my chances of getting in there is about the same or greater than getting into UofA. Kind of strange, isn't it?

With the concern from the high percentage of failures on the board tests last year, my guess is that they'd want to bring in a brainier bunch (at least on paper) to help offset that.

Again, recall that they said the most qualified aren't necessarily the ones who get the acceptance letter first in these rolling admissions. There's one more round of acceptances left. It's too soon to say you didn't get in.

Yea, I really don't understand. You guys sound like you all have amazing stats, ECs, LORs, etc..I feel like I am on the other end of the spectrum..with a definetely lower-end MCAT, 4.0 GPA, thorough volunteering/clinical experiences, traveling, and spanish all geared towards working with rural/inner-city population. I also am considered "under-represented", im a business student, and thought my interviews (esp Tucson) were not "cookie-cutter" but interesting..
If UA isnt picking the amazing stat/research people or those with less than ideal MCAT but strong interest/experience in rural medicine...what the heck are they looking for? In general, I just can't believe that not more SDN'ers are posting good news here. I feel last year's thread had so many acceptances. Maybe we will all be in the lucky, last 30. Good luck guys!

Maybe they'll spend the next two weeks on SDN figuring our identities out so they can accept all of us in the last round.

Yeah, right. It's wishful thinking, but really, no one wants Admissions to use pity as a criteria, esp. on a small uneven cross-section of applicants. Also, this is the internet. Anyone can masquerade and manipulate with an anonymous profile. If they believe everything they read here to help make a life-changing decision like acceptance or rejection, then they are doing wrong. Yes you, Admissions Committee, if you are reading this right now and are taking stock of individual plights on this thread to feed acceptance decisions, you are not performing your job fairly.

With that said, I have another anonymous message to the Admissions Comm (ironic in this context, but true): if you made an administrative screw-up that seriously affected an applicant's chances, please owe up to it, apologize, and do your best to remedy the situation. Yes, it happened last year, and I can't say what because it would identify the applicant who is still bothered by it.

Of course I agree with everything you are saying. I'm just engaging in useless speculation to keep myself sane during this very nerve-racking time.

On a related note, I'm dying here because I got a Christmas card. Why did more qualified applicants not get one? Did they just run out of cards? What was the purpose of the card? It is just soooo weird. I can't wait until the 23rd when all of my questions will be answered.

Even if you get in on the 23rd or through the waitlist, Phoenix selectively sending out cards was a bad idea. Seems to be a big faux-pas.

In the shuffle, you can end up with scenarios with people who:
1. received cards who don't get in (rare? we'll never find out for sure)
2. are waitlisted (ouch)
3. are waitlisted and don't get in (what a tease!)
4. Tucson applicants who are left wondering, how come I didn't get a card? should I have? but I got one from Phoenix. does that mean something?

Some who don't get cards might get accepted. I'm sure this will happen to some, perhaps many. In all likelihood, you end up with part of your matriculant class having had received those cards and rest had not. The latter group feels like the school's second-choice backup applicants. Nice.

The cards just fuel unnecessary speculation and anxiety in an already tense process. Thanks a lot, Phoenix. Geez, didn't anyone there think this through? Advice: send out congrat cards after acceptances.

I think I figured the card thing out...some interviewers, along with their after interview note, can elect on the sheet to send a card as a courtesy. For example, if the interviewer felt a sort of special bond with the applicant, they might do it. It doesn't come from the person, but the school, as a way of just saying "thinking of you." Sounds corny, I know, but it has nothing to do with if you are getting in or not. Just a gesture that probably some interviewers don't know about. So now, I'm going to erase the card thing off my mind....as for my reapplication, I'm soon going to get some volunteering gigs going and just have a good time. After all, isn't this what it is all about?

Also, trypo, since you got into USC, why do you even care about UA save the tuition? I mean, come on, USC!!!!!

 You said it, but those were my initial thoughts exactly, haha. But that still doesn't change the situation for many of us here, and it is unfortunate to hear about the major screw-up on his app last year on the admin's side. Trypto, do you mind me asking how you found out about the mistake (not asking you to diclose what it was; but was it via phone call, snail mail, email?) I think I made a huge mistake by not contacting the admissions office on why I was unsuccessful last cycle when I reapplied this year; I assumed it was my MCAT but from what I understand they accepted lower last year and this year, so if it was something else like a poor LOR, etc. I guess I would never know.

Yeah I think the whole card thing was a big mistake. Personally, I didn't get one and all this speculation from people who did get one makes me feel even less likely to get in. But congrats to everyone who got an acceptance... meanwhile gotta keep hopin to be part of the last 30!!

I wonder why they would allow the interviewers to pick and choose who to send cards to (if that is the case). Common sense would tell them that it would give certain people a false sense of assurance about being accepted and thats just mean! Again, the card didn't just say Happy Holidays it also said you were very competitive and to please continue to consider the school...I really want to forget the whole card thing, but its the only thing keeping me with a little bit of hope..I wonder what they would say if someone actually called PHX and asked if everyone was supposed to receive a card? I think I might call tomorrow...

Hey Rennykim, did your brother get a card?

If you do call, don't forget to tell them in a carefully thought-out, tactful way that the card thing was a nice thought but might not have been such a great idea. Perhaps it will make them go, "hmm... she/he may be right. I admire this applicant's initiative." <then adds post-it note to applicant's file>

With regard to the whole card thing...I had spoken with Anne at the Tucson campus (when I first heard of this) and she stated that Tucson NEVER sent out any cards. I don't know about Phoenix...but I am willing to call to find out. I agree, the cards are actually quite unfair and leave applicants in a somewhat discriminatory state.

Anne was actually quite surprised to hear of this...

Yea, I figured Tucson didn't send out cards...but I would just ask Phoenix if cards were selectively sent since you know many people who did not receive one. That's all. Did you receive a card ThankGod? I know you were accepted to Tucson, what about PHX?

How funny...this whole time I might have been mistaken. Anyway, my card was from 1501 Campbell. I suppose it could be from the volunteering dept...but it did not mention volunteering at all. But, I will call tomorrow to clear this up. I guess if Ann said she didn't then she didn't. Man I wish I kept that stupid thing. At least this explains why I have not been accepted!

Yeah, the more I think about it, mine didn't have anything handwritten....it probably was from volunteering. Anyway, for those who did get a card, how can you not get in? Before, when I thought I got one, I figured they were just to everyone since I'm not stellar, but now that I realize I probably did not get one (still will confirm tomorrow), I realize they are much more sparse. You guys are def getting in.
