Hey thewendster,

I was looking at your mdprofile and realized we had very similar profile. I also interviewed at ucla in December. I think you interviewed there about a week before I did and I interviewed at ub a week before you did. I am ca resident as well.

that's so funny! Are you waitlisted as well at UCLA? I'm retaking my MCAT on 5/28 to try to get off all my waitlists.

It seems like there are a lot of us CA people on this UB waitlist. Maybe we'll have to get together and do a mass exodus up north. I really liked UB actually about as much as I liked UCLA, which surprised me. I have a fiancee and sister here in Los Angeles though, so the move out to Buffalo would be a drastic change for me, but totally worth it!

As of right now, yes. I'm turning down my Western U acceptance and am still on 2 other waitlists that I intend to remain on and see how things go. I would take UCLA over UB... For me, Loma Linda vs. UB is a toss-up, so I'm not sure what I would decide if given that scenario. My fiancee is looking to transfer law schools so that he can be near me. If he's able to do that it would make things much easier on me! (We've been together for 5 years and are getting married next summer)
 
Since ppl who moved up from mid 1/3 to upper 1/3 have already been accepted, looks like UB will get to the mid 1/3 by the end of this month. Let's pray:luck::luck::luck:

Could be. . . . BUT still there are those who were always in the upper third who have not yet been accepted (me) I am very confused, I was placed on the upper third in april, and have not been accepted yet.
I hope this gives a more accurate view of how the waitlist is moving, there is still no way to tell how many are left in the upper third.

To put things in perspective, I interviewed 3/4.. was "tentatively" put in the middle 1/3 and was told that once everyone else interviews, depending on the applicants who interview after me, my final spot would be higher or lower. Two days ago was the first day I ever checked to see where I was and was pleasantly surprised to see that I was now in the upper third. I think it is entirely feasible that since I interviewed at least a month before LDoct, my position was more of an estimate than his/hers because there were still so many more interviewees after me and as a result I guess I ended up higher on the waitlist once everything settled down. But anyways, all of the upper thirds will be getting in and hopefully a good amount of the middle thirds as well.

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks wendster, I appreciate the perspective since this waitlist is driving me crazy, as I have no other acceptances.

kac714 - I have emailed Mr. Rosso, but he cannot tell me anything specific. Just says that 100% of those on the upper third last year got accepted.

just called today, Mr. Rosso said that UB'll be moving into the mid 1/3 sometime next week. Best of luck to all mid 1/3ders :luck::luck::luck:!

Hi guys,
Just wanted to let you know i was accepted off the waitlist also. I dont know exactly when since i found out by chance after my lil sis told me a huge package came in the mail from UB and i then went to check the status page.
I was also aacepted to UCONN so i hadnt been checking the Buffalo status page.

Before everyone freaks out, I'm going to venture to guess that Dr. Hamilton, like me, didn't find out his final ranking where he was obviously bumped up from a preliminary upper 1/3 to a prelim middle third, back up to the finalized upper third.

Congrats! Do you know where you're going?

ohwow! since they are moving to the middle third by next week...could they possibly make it to the bottom third this year?? im unfortunately in the bottom 1/3 and would love to go to UB!

I think - making it to the bottom third is possible this year. Did you get a chance to verify after May 4 whether you were upgraded to middle 1/3rd?

Sorry to burst your bubble; I recall someone on this thread called and was told by Mr. Rosso that even the mid 1/3 will only likely to have 50-50 chance. Although this is all based on a prediction, I encourage you start on Plan B asap just in case.
 
I am not sure if I am right but this is what I got from a convo with Senior Rosso: Every year, he says that middle thirds have a 50-50 chance because they usually get through half of the middle third, some years all the way through and some years not much at all, thus a 50-50 chance. He also told me that people in the bottom third have a 25 percent chance of getting in, because once every 4 years they go through a good chuck of the bottom third. This is only speculation but since he/the admission office has VERY strict rules on what they can/cannot say, I'm confident that he is required to say these things per the admission committee. During our convo, almost every question I asked, he said "we know the answer but we can't tell you." I'm pretty sure everything he says, no matter how fast/slow the movement is, is already scripted. I guess we will see what happens the next couple of weeks but from what I found on past waitlist threads, this year is way ahead of schedule. Good luck.

I wonder why the admission office has very strict rules. If only UB does not loose anything by revealing one's position in the WL, we can happily take a number and wait for our turn.

Middle 1/3ders, check your status and report promptly. Let's hope the WL movement will go deeper into bottom 1/3 this year...soon. Soon like in June? Any thoughts on this?

I'm sorry for being the pessimist on this thread. But I really don't want ppl to get false hopes. I mean just by looking at the top 1/3ders who have already been accepted (according to this thread), it doesnt seem that there's a big withdrawal movement so far. And if this trend persists into mid June, I feel even a good fraction of mid 1/3 will not be accepted :scared:. Again, just my thoughts.

it seems like others may be on other waitlists, so i think there may be withdrawls after they hear back... i guess the only thing you can do is be optimistic at this point, but do prepare for the worst.

Hi guys, I will be withdrawing from Buffalo to go to UConn because they are offering me a better aid package. good luck to all of you guys.
