I was rejected from Penn two years in a row- got in this year- finally! Third times the charm I suppose- but anyway, onto answering the question. I found out both years I was rejected via email.

Congrats Wiki22!!!

And I'm so sorry about everyone else 🙁 Welp, Monday is tomorrow...Im so nervous..

I think their main form of communication is email, I guess they sent out application acknowledgement letters via email too. check your spam mail, mine has been eating all emails that dont end in my university's email address.

I know it might be early but if anyone who has already gotten in is starting to look for housing, I will be moving out and need somone to take over my lease at 46th and pine, walking distance to penn vet. Great building with lots of amenities. Message me for details, or if you just have questions about penn vet!

sooo i expected to come home and find a rejection letter sitting in my inbox.......and i have nothing. im not sure if this is good or bad.

anyone hear anything?

Dear Penn,

Please acknowledge my existence.

Thanks,

I just wanted to say I deeply sympathize with all of you that are still waiting to hear something, anything from Penn. The last two years I didn't hear that I was rejected until late March- let me tell you, it was a painful wait. Hang in there, hopefully you will learn something soon.

If I don't get an email today I am just going to accept defeat.

Got my rejection letter on 3/5/2010 last year. I, too, had to wait from November until March before I heard anything! Hope this helps those who are waiting. I am in a similar boat🙁...

I had my interview on Friday 2/25 and just got my acceptance phone call today 😍 So exciting!!! UPenn is my #1 choice!!

Fingers crossed for those of you still waiting, you never know! :xf: Good luck!!

yasss! amen my friend. i think im just going to give up...if today was the last day theyre sending out invites and i havent gotten anything, im assuming its rejection.

Still slightly hopeful, but definitely in more of a rejection email mindset right about now. Luckily I've been accepted at a couple of other programs that I REALLY like =) Third time's a charm!

Now let us all hold hands and have a moment of silence in memory of what was once our chances at UPenn...

+pity+

Third time's a charm!

Yeah third timer! Me, too! I have also been accepted elsewhere but I would have loved an interview at my IS. Still going to vet school and that's all that counts. I feel very lucky.

Best of luck to everyone in whatever the future holds!

still no word for me at all. it's just irritating me now.

If we didn't get a phone call from the admissions committee since our interview what are our chances that we got in? 😕

I interviewed on the 25th and finally got tired of waiting and decided to give the admission's office a call. The guy I talked to was really nice and told me I was on hold. For those of us on hold - he said that there were maybe 25 to 30 of us and they basically reconsider our applications during each round of interviews. He also said the last batch of interviews would be on the 11th of march. So we have two more chances to be selected! 😀

And just an FYI, but if you end up on the waitlist (instead of "on hold"), Penn apparently took a fair number of people off the wait list for my class. And not just in April! So all hope is not lost.

So do they pull people from the "on hold" list each week and accept them? I thought they wait until the end and accept from there if needed...

So First of all- Good luck to everyone still waiting... I know it's really rough! Especially when they keep you waiting til now.

Offtopic? Housing? How do I work it? hahaha, but seriously, I'm about 5 hours away and I have no idea how to see any of the houses listed on the penn website, how to find roommates, if we can even see the apartments first? Or to know whether it's in a good area? all of that? Any suggestions? or is this way too early?

Hi! I'm going to be at Penn Vet in the fall too! 🙂 I currently live in an area of PA where it is extremely important to look for housing early (lots of college students=lots of competition) so as soon as I accepted my seat at Penn I began to look for housing. Apparently going into it with that mindset isn't necessary though. I was told that, while some places have apartments listed now, many more will be listed as it gets to be May-June.

I'd just say plan a weekend or week days (if you can swing them) and make some appointments to see apartments that you're interested in. I basically called a bunch of landlords and asked if I could make appointments for later that week and they all said yes. I'm not a Philly native so I can't help you with the good area vs. bad area but there's a housing document on the facebook group that kind of addresses some of those issues. I also know at least one person at my current undergrad who is looking for another Penn Vet roommate for the fall.
Bottom line- it's not too early but you don't need to be in a tearing rush. Coordinating a weekend to meet with potential roommates and look at apartments together may be easier once school is over!

If you search on this forum for past Penn Vet threads, there are lots of housing recommendations as well.

oh so they do have a waitlist.
well i guess ill just have to sit back and relax til after March 11th then, because im assuming im waitlist or denied.

its so interesting how different vet schools react towards your application...some of them love you, some of them waitlist you, and some of them outright deny you. but i guess its better that way because at least the top 200 people arent always the same people being selected at every school

So do they pull people from the "on hold" list each week and accept them? I thought they wait until the end and accept from there if needed...

From what I understood we are competing with the people who were interviewed that week. So they won't necessarily pull someone from the "on hold" list if the adcom think the current interviewers are a better fit.

remember to join the facebook group for your class if you're interested in rooming with classmates

last year a group of us got together in April to meet each other and look at housing.

If you don't want to move in til Aug then there is no point in looking now because most of the places listed now will be for May-July move in.
I put money down on an apt in April for a June move in date.

So..um..yeah, I hate to be that guy/girl but it seems to me that Penn is pretty much winding down now with this year's admissions cycle. Is it safe to assume that I am denied at this point if I haven't heard anything or is it still logical to continue hoping for a possible interview invite?

I, for one, am joining awaring in the violin section +pity+. Goodbye, chances at Penn. Since we've heard that the last interviews are 3/11 and those invites have already gone out (and they said they'd give at least 2 weeks notice for interviews), I think the chances are dwindling. They might save one or two people in case someone cancels for the 3/11 interview? But I'm expecting my rejection any day. On the upside, it will be nice for me to be one step closer to being able to decide where I'll be next year!

Best of luck to everyone still waiting - for Penn or elsewhere :luck::luck:.

I think I am done with stressing out over my application to Penn. If an interview should happen to come along then fine and if it doesn't then I am still ok with that. Penn is a good school that I would love to attend, but I have had alot of success this admissions cycle and I am tired of stressing. Whatever happens from now until April 15th is fine with me.

👍 Hang in there, aspiring Pennwe-s! It's been a long & good haul - don't sell yourselves short 😀 Best of luck with everything!! ((Hugs)) All around! And :biglove: of course. I totally understand if you want to wallow though.🙂

(Why am I still on this thread?? Cause I CARE 😀😀)

Just wondering . . .

Does Penn over-accept for OOS? I can't scrape together my deposit for another week and a half, and it's kind of freaking me out. :scared:

Your deposit isn't due until April 15th like (most) other schools. It doesn't not matter when you send in the deposit, your spot, if you've been offered one, is guaranteed. As long as you don't send it in after the deadline, you are fine.

Thanks, that's good to know. I figured that was the case, but given that my IS (VMRCVM) appears to overaccept, I figured I should check about Penn.

You're welcome. 🙂

Yeah it's pretty shady that some other schools seem to be playing accepted students off each other like that. It's not fair because the April 15th deadline is there for a reason...so you get a chance to hear from all your schools before you make a decision, so that you can make an educated decision about where you want to go.

I'm happy to hear you're coming to Penn though, congrats on the acceptance 😀

...and now back to neuro

soooo is there still a chance to be waitlisted even without an interview invite? or are all the "on hold" applicants automatically waitlisted and the applicants without interviews rejected?

Unfortunately, I do not think you can be waitlisted without an interview and at this point all interview invites have been sent out for the last interview date on Friday.

Hey, sorry if this is a bit off topic, but is anyone else planning to go to Penn OOS and without any option of funding other than 100% loans? I really loved Penn but I'm worried it would be irresponsible to go there financially...everyone I've talked to so far was either in-state or had some sort of assistance from their parents. Current students, please weigh in if you know others in my situation and let me know whether or not Penn is worth it!

There are many people here, including myself, who are OOS and existing solely on loans...actually almost everyone I meet fits that requirement (especially since penn only takes 30% of their class instate anymore)

Whether it's worth it or not totally depends on you and your plans after vet school. Certainly I love the school but whether you might love it enough to take on the debt is something only you can decide 🙂 congrats!

👍

And just so you know, all of the people who are in state are also relying solely on loans. Even if you forget about the 30k tuition loans.
Savings will only last you so long for everything else. I came in with 15k and that is about gone now. So it lasted almost 1 year (i stopped working in june). Its not just the rent you have to think about but the books, moving costs, rabies shots, etc all these other random things that add up. I mean, rabies was like 300$ so these things aren't cheap. Moving is also expensive, even if you don't bring large things once you come to your place you'll need to buy furniture lol
So unless you get money from your parents, get a scholarship, or have 50k saved up for all costs minus tuition, everyone basically relies on loans at penn (IS and OOS)

hey everyone! do any interviewees want to meet up this Friday for an early lunch or something before the 12:45 arrival time? so excited! yay!

👍

p. I mean, rabies was like 300$ so these things aren't cheap.

Just for the record, if you get the student health insurance (through Aetna) rabies vaccines (and any others you need) are free. Good deal but their health insurance was pricey!

And I don't mean to take anything away from Blackat's point. The money does flow out pretty quickly.

Good luck to everyone with interviews tomorrow!
