VMRCVM Applicants c/o 2017

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats on completing your interview guys! Looking forward to having you join us next year 🙂

Definitely wasn't too bad. I actually kind of had fun. And sorry about your flight! Hope you get out ok.

Yeah. After doing two of them, truthfully I like the MMI. The MMI does make you think on your feet a little more, but a traditional interview just makes me fret a lot more in regards to preparing for it.

And thanks, it was a long day but everything worked out. Airline paid for another night at a hotel, flew to Atlanta at 6:50 this morning, then got to DFW a bit past 11. Grabbed some lunch at my parent's place, then drove back down to Aggieland. Just got back a little bit ago. So, a long day, but no problems thankfully

A few seconds before the MMI began: "Don't worry, it's only an entire year of college on the line..." Heh.

Even having graduated 3 years ago I still barely feel prepared, so I can't imagine applying after sophomore year. I was (am) very impressed. Looking forward to seeing where you end up, good luck!

Ohhh, it's you!

And I guess you're right, I think of it as third year, but it was the summer after second when I began my applications and took the GRE and whatnot.

Anyway, thank you, I appreciate the compliment.

Good luck to you too (not that you need much with the acceptances you already have!)

I actually had a great time at the interview and touring the school (for Group 7). Two of my friends are first years at VMRCVM and they LOVE IT there.

Has anyone else checked their online application status lately for VMRCVM? I haven't check it since I got the email about interviews.
Mine says:
Application Status: Decision made

And then lists my Current Program as Fall 2013 DVM... Not sure what this means?!?

Application Data
Admission Term: Fall Semester 2013
Admission Type: Vet - Med - DVM
Application Status: Decision Made
Current Program
Level: Professional
Program: Doctor of Vet Med. in Vet Med
Catalog Term: Fall Semester 2013
Campus: Blacksburg
College: Veterinary Medicine
Degree: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
College: Veterinary Medicine
Major: Veterinary Medicine
Date Created: 09/26/12

Also for my interview, I was in Group 3 on Friday.

Hm...Mine says "Under Review." Although I don't think decisions could be made yet, one way or the other, since they said it will take until Mar. 1 to finalize the interview results?

Yes, I know Dr. Pelzer said march which I why I am wondering why it says this now. I know that decisions were made about a week later last year since interviews were held in March. Dr. Pelzer said she was going to 'run statistics' on our interviews to make it more fair and that there was a possibility that they could decide before March.
I'm curious as to what everyone says.

On page 6 of this thread this was discussed. A couple posters who had already been rejected said their online status had changed to the same thing. I don't think it means anything.

Thanks for the info- I haven't had a chance to read all 7 pages of this thread yet since I signed up today. I appreciate it.

I was worried about what my status meant as well, so I did a little research by checking out last year's VMRCVM hopefuls page. Like Frozen said, the status doesn't mean a whole lot. Both people who's statuses were "Under Review" and people who's statuses were "Decision Made" were accepted or rejected.

Anyway, the main reason I'm posting is because of Thank You cards. Anybody else sending one out? I figured I'd find a way to get one to Dr. Pelzer. Anyway to stand out is good I imagine, even though it sounds like they're being very objective about everything.

Good luck everyone!

Good for you! I am a huge proponent of hand written, snail mailed Thank You cards. Not only are they the right thing to do etiquette wise, people do notice and appreciate them. Professionally, they go a long way to establishing a good reputation for yourself.
As far as VMRCVM is concerned, send cards to
VA-MD Regional College of Veterinary Medicine
Virginia Tech, Duck Pond Drive (0442)
Blacksburg, Virginia 24061
Mark them as Attention to (whomever you are sending the card to) along with the address.

Sorry y'all have to wait so long to find out about acceptances. Bummer.

Are thank you cards pretty standard? Crap monkey. I have no manners. 😱

I just sent an email thanking her and asked a few additional questions.

This probably isn't too important, but I wanted to let you guys know just in case. Yesterday morning when I checked my status page, it still said "Under Review" in the Current Status row. I just checked it and the Current Status row is now gone. So at least we know they are somewhat adjusting the status pages, even though I have no idea what that means...

I noticed that this morning as well.

So glad it's not just me! I might have had a mild panic attack when I saw it. If I make it through the end of this cycle without having a heart attack, it will be a miracle!

Hahaha, tell me about it. Why do we have to wait until March!? I just want to know if I got into my IS school so I know to tell Mizzou if I am accepting them or not.

I'm IS-VA and it is the only school I applied for. I know, I'm dumb, but I have my reasons haha. Congrats on Mizzou and having options! 😀

Thanks so much! I was mostly in that boat last year- only applied to VMRCVM, UPenn, and NC State... all rejections. I applied to 6 schools this cycle, got 4 interviews (and of course NC State doesn't do interviews). So, I definitely suggest applying to more in the future. Good luck to you as well!
I really did not come out of the MMI interview feeling good about it. I really did not like and and I MUCH preferred the traditional interview at Mizzou (about 15 minutes long) to the MMI. I felt good leaving Mizzou's interview. We shall see with VMRCVM... VA Tech is my alma mater!

I know I should apply to more, but I have personal reasons that make Tech the only feasible option for me at this point in my life. So :xf: it works out this time! I actually enjoyed the MMIs, although I think it is really difficult to get a good feel for how you did in them. AHHHHH I just want to know!

Everyone I talked to walked out of there and was like 'what just happened!?' So, it feels like I am not alone. I guess it didn't help that I started with the most difficult questions, but at least they got a little easier after the first 3. I also ran out of time on all of mine and never got to finish my final thoughts, which did stink. Hopefully, I left a good impression on everyone! I was in Group 3 on Friday, yellow, if anyone wants to know.

I bet you did wonderfully!

Thanks 🙂 I know we always say that we are our own worst critics. But, still, I just don't feel good about the whole MMI thing. I'm sure I did better than what I am thinking... This wait is killer, though!

The wait is killing me too. But remember that you're going to get an email that says either "Waitlisted" or "Accepted." No one's getting truly rejected at this point.

I hated the MMI. I'd had a very successful interview at Illinois a month prior, came out of that with a grin on my face and got my acceptance letter not long after; came out of the MMI with no bloody idea how I'd done - and I did just fine, it turns out. 😉 So no worries, it's just one of those things. Probably because it's scripted, there's no way to tell how you've done. I much prefer traditional interviews, as well!

I know I should apply to more...

Not necessarily. =) I knew I wanted to apply to Illinois and VMRCVM far in advance of actually applying; I added Cornell and UPenn on a whim during my actual application cycle. Cornell and UPenn rejected me handily. 😉 It's not about quantity, it really is about quality - it only takes one acceptance!

Thank you! Hopefully I won't have to worry about applying again :xf: I hope second semester is going well for you!

Meh, call me weird but I enjoy and sorta prefer MMI 😛

Though it went quite well, after the k-state interview I was looking forward to a second MMI at VMRCVM.

Guys, I feel like the anxiety over whether or not I got in is driving me crazy and starting to interfere with my daily life. I can't study for five minutes without going on this site! I wish they would hurry up and let us know.

I feel the exact same way! I'm having trouble sleeping because my brain just won't stop thinking about it. A few night ago I had a dream that the emails had gone out, and I scrambled for my computer when I woke up in the morning. It makes it so much worse that they said BY March 1, not ON March 1. So now, even though realistically I know we probably won't hear for another three weeks, I keep checking my email and SDN constantly because there is a CHANCE we might hear sooner. I'm a mess. This is pathetic.

I hope it gets better for you though and that you hear fantastic news!

Yeah all of my vets that I work for were so mad about what happened at Penn---that it just puts more pressure on me to get into virginia.

Well, I think Penn made a huge mistake. And no, I only applied to VMRCVM. Might have a little something to do with my nerves, but I understand the pressure thing. I guess all we can do is take a deep breath and try to relax (and smile!) over the next couple of weeks. Definitely easier said than done! 🙂

I'm so sorry you guys have to wait so long. I couldn't stay off of this site between interviews and letters - and you guys have to wait a taaaad longer than we did.

Woosa, watch some movies or something? ;D

Ugh this wait is killing me... and thank you hopefulinva- I appreciate it. A few weeks out I don't feel as bad about it as I did earlier. I'm just so anxious for that email since it is my IS school and alma mater. I love Blacksburg!!
It is good to know, though, that I have somewhere else just in case (Mizzou!!) And I really liked it there. Just a shame it is so far away.

So, we're closing on on two and a half weeks since interviews!

17 days until March 1st.

Halfway there! We will hear back in no time! 🙂 (or at least that is what I keep telling myself haha).

Just thinking about how much time until March 1st makes me nauseous... I am so nervous, I just want to know! :scared:

I know! Every one of my vets is asking me every day and I'm going crazy just waiting and wondering. At least I know some other people are feeling the same way 🙂 SDN support rocks.

Dang, you guys. 1220 of you!? That's fantastic!

"Today, four other veterinary schools use the [MMI] format."

Just curious. Other than Davis, anyone know the other two schools? I wan't even aware there were others.
