Was the mailing list that was sent out just for IS? Or everyone?
She didn't specify on the phone but since they were doing OOS interviews last week I'm sure it was just in-state. Looking back at threads from previous years and from my 2 previous applications to WSU they send out the decisions for each "group" separately.

Everyone receiving calls on Friday was IS. They do it over several days, in my experience from applying last cycle. Everyone in my undergrad program heard over the course of two days last year, so I assume she does the calls for at least two days. It may change from year to year. Seeing as she is a busy woman, I doubt she sends all ~50-60 IS WA calls in one afternoon. I don't know if she also does Idaho at the same time, but if she does that means she is offering maybe another ~30 ID calls (don't remember the exact proportion on the class page).

It’s only 11-12 idaho calls, and they heard a day or two before in state

Officially accepted my offer a last week and today I received the “new student” email for the WIMU Class of 2024 (Logan Campus).
did you email them or send the form back in letter form?

I'm sorry about that. Did you apply anywhere else?
I applied to two other schools but they are a no go unfortunately. I am mainly bummed because I was also waitlisted last year and was in the top 1/3 on the list. I did a file review and made the improvements so I was really hoping this would be it. But that's alright, just gotta keep making improvements and maybe next year will be my year if I don't make it off the waitlist this year! Fingers crossed!!

I believe in you! You got this!!

I still haven't received any letters, emails, etc. So I'm guessing better luck next year for me? I'll probably wait until Friday before calling and seeing if I could get a file review and start working towards buffing up my application

A bit of a tangent, but current WSU students, what's the scrub situation like? How often do you wear scrubs while in school, and are there any guidelines for them (e.g. WSU branded, specific colors, etc)? I'm in the market for new scrubs, but I want to make sure I'm investing in the right things since money is especially tight right now.

Clean scrubs are required when you're working in the VTH. Will be needed for both anatomy and surgical skills. Clean scrubs for surgical skills. Wear crappy ones for anatomy.

You do not need to buy any specific color or brand. In 3rd year you'll need a pair of coveralls. For 1st year they'll recommend them for LA anatomy but it isn't a hard and fast rule.

If you can, I'd recommend buying old ones off of Facebook marketplace.

I have some nice scrubs that I got for free when I was working at VCA. Can I wear scrubs that have the VCA logos on them, or should I buy separate ones?

Those are fine for classes. I don't think they'll be a problem in the hospital except maybe in 4th year... of course you'll be wearing a white coat over them for that so even then it might not be a problem

Those are definitely fine for labs and intro to clinics. Don’t think anyone would care 4th year either too much. But 4th year you only use scrubs during surgery, anesthesia, or ECC. Any other time dress code is business casual.

They’re trying to implement scrub machines like they do at some human hospitals that will be used for in the VTH 4th year for the above, so probably by the time both of you get there you won’t need your own scrubs 4th year.

The others answered for the most part. Rumor has it that they are going to try and enforce not wearing clothes with other places brands on them, just up in the VTH. It might just be rumor but it makes sense in my mind. The branded ones would be fine for classes though.

Congrats! Do you mind me asking where you both have decided to go instead?

Unless either of you are going somewhere with comparable CoA somehow, I would hold on to your spots and really, really think about the extra debt you would be taking on. $100k-200k extra is really not worth it and can be a major hurdle in being able to afford a house, have kids, live comfortably, etc.

There are plenty of threads and posts on this site by vets who took on the extra debt and regret it. Or who can only afford it cause of the spouses income.

I will be going to Edinburgh as my first choice, Glasgow as my second choice. Over the course of this past year and reapplication (to more than one school this cycle), I realized that the atmosphere of WSU and the palouse doesn't fit with my personality and my changing goals. I can go anywhere in the world with a degree from either school and I know that long term, I have very little desire to remain in the US. If it means more debt overall, I'll take it. The difference in overall cost based on my calculations is worth it.

Unless you have dual citizenship, it’s really really hard to get a work visa in another country. Usually you need to be sponsored by your job or married to a citizen, and even then it’s not easy. I get not liking the Palouse, but realistically most people will never be able to work outside the US except in very specific circumstances. I wouldn’t take on almost double the debt for that.

Did you already get into Edinburgh?

I interviewed two days ago with them. As for Glasgow I have had an acceptance since August.

Double the debt is a bit of an exaggeration. 1.5X is a more reasonable estimate, particularly in regards to pound value fluctuation. I happen to have dual citizenship in Mexico, but I have looked into the process for other countries. I know my goal is not an easy path, but I know I will do whatever I have to gain a working visa and eventually citizenship in another country. More people do it than you'd think, even people who don't have professional degrees. I am strongly considering doing a PhD/residency, which would make my options open up a bit more when it comes to relocating.

Any current students know why they’re increasing 4th year tuition for the class of 2024?

Although WSU is obviously a fine school, I really didn't enjoy my time there nearly as much as I did at Mizzou and Tennessee. My fiance and I also don't like the area and job opportunities for him are slim - which would actually be harder on us financially.
Last year I only applied to WSU because I was so concerned about debt and was waitlisted; now, it really seems like a blessing in disguise since these schools also have more opportunities when it comes to what I am interested in pursuing.
My #1 is Tennessee, but we will see if I get accepted there or not! If not, Missouri was awesome. I also found out that I get IS tuition at those two colleges, so actually Mizzou is cheaper for me than WSU.

During the last recession when all the schools hiked tuition like 7-9% a year wsu dvm program didnt up their dvm tuition at all and was stagnant for 11 years I believe. As a result we now have a short fall. With that the most reasonable way to make up for the shortfall with the least impact to all students was to implement the extra 4th year fee to pay tuition over summer starting with 2024. It also still keeps us as one of the cheapest schools but not as cheap as it used to be. Its unfortunate but definitely some funding shortfalls that are present.

From my understanding, almost every other vet school has a tuition increase in the fourth year. I don’t see anything necessarily wrong with it. You’re in school longer, it makes sense to pay for it. Of course, I’d rather not pay it, but I don’t necessarily see it as anything out of the ordinary.

Yes for sure we are definitely not the first school I think we will become like the 12th or 13th school or something like that to charge for 4th year. If anyone is interested you can Google wsu board of reagents and look at the agenda from the November 2019 meeting and the proposal is in there if you would like to see more detailed info of how all that breaks down.

You’re in school longer, but you’re also free labor. So it’s annoying to have to pay even more for the year you're literally allowing the hospital to run during lol

I’m bummed they decided to approve that increase. Last I heard they were still discussing it.

How much is the increase?

How much is the increase?
Basically an extra semester of IS tuition. Still makes WSU one of the cheapest options for IS and OOS, but annoying. Especially since main campus got to decide it, not the vet school itself.

where can I find how much tuition costs for WSU? I can find it on spreadsheets and other websites, but I want to see if it is on the WSU website itself to get the most accurate number?

It’s on the vetmed page. They have a whole cost of attendance break down.

anyone think we might here back today for OOS since idaho residents heard back only a week after last interviews?
