Did you get an email then? It's not a big deal for me because I got into my first preference vet school but I guess I am just curious because there has been no communication for me.

Congratulations to everyone who got in btw!! 🙂

I think it’s snail mail and if you actually get off the waitlist they send you an email.

This is for current students:
-When did you start looking for housing/apartments/trailers?
-Which do you recommend for a first year?
-Where (ie what websites) did you look for housing if I can’t go up to Pullman to check them out myself in person?
-Which housing to avoid (ie apartment complexes that have a bad reputation)?
-How do you recommend finding roommates?

-When did you start looking for housing/apartments/trailers?
I started looking over spring break. My dad and fiance came out with me. We eventually settled on an apartment at the time. We are in a trailer now-way better for us. Some housing was already taken 😵

-Which do you recommend for a first year?
Alot of 1st years I would say end up in an apartment or roommate house situation especially if moving from far away. Really it's up to your personality. We lived in a more costly apartment there were mostly grad students, couples, and families living there so overall more quiet. Some of the cheaper or furnished places have a higher undergrad population so definitely more noisy. If you're used to apartments though it's no big deal. My friend lives in a house with roommates. She has a nice set up, rent is reasonable and she has her animals. We moved to a manufactured home/ trailer. We are in love. If you go the trailer route just make sure you do your due diligence because some of them are a disaster waiting to happen. One of my classmates had to replace their sewer line last winter and their hot water heat went out with no direct access. They also redid their bathroom and found the floor rotted out under the bathtub. My other classmate lives in the same park and has had 0 issues so it really just depends. Alot also depends on your personal situation SO/pets/ if you want a W/D in unit/dishwasher/etc.

-Where (ie what websites) did you look for housing if I can’t go up to Pullman to check them out myself in person?
The housing packet is internal among WSU CVM-if you've accepted your spot they should send it to you soon. Alot of upper classmen selling their trailers, people looking for roomates, etc. Stay away from DRA is the over all consensus among the vet students. I rented through DABCO they were ok. Alot of people do Apartment Rentals. There's also Summit and Heritage realty. Remax, helene's property and wendimere also do rentals. There's also Willow's place, boulder creek, cougar ridge. Really if you google apartments in Pullman there's a slew of them. If you're a resident and not trying to establish residency you can also check out Moscow. Everyone I think has had good and bad experiences with each place, just depends. If you want to look at a place normally if you just ask on the classifieds pages someone from the school is usually more than willing to go look at a place for you with you on skype/zoom/whatever or at least make sure the place isn't trashed.

-Which housing to avoid (ie apartment complexes that have a bad reputation)?
DRA.
Like I said I think you can find someone with a good&bad experiences with every place, but for sure stay away from DRA. If you have DABCO questions I'd be more than happy to pm about them. I'm also happy to tell you about my current trailer park as well.

-How do you recommend finding roommates?
I guess it really depends. Alot of people say don't live with people in your year-there's alot of people who do anyway. There's also alot of people who don't. I know some classmates who have ruined friendships because they lived together. I know some that have only gotten stronger. There's alot of upperclassmen that shuffle roommates after a year so there will be rooms on the internal housing packet. Your class page or the classifieds page are also a good resource for finding roommates.

1. I already had a roommate lined up before I got to school
2. totally depends on you
3. if you are talking rentals, I would use the housing packet or classifieds page or the C/O 2024 page to find a roommate or a rental. You can use the Pullman Free/For Sale page as well. If you are talking purchasing, mostly the same, except utilizing any real estate website works, too.
4.A. Terrace Estates is trash (Trailer park). DRA is a bad rental agency. Don't know much about apartment complexes... I deliver for doordash and would say Cougar Ridge is poor due to being an exceptionally confusing complex, but the quality might be just fine.
4.B This is a tangent as far as housing that I would recommend. If you're looking at a trailer, Golden Hills and Skyline Estates are favored parks. The Hills is a very nice/new townhome complex.
5. see 3.

Informed delivery says I have a small letter from Washington so I’m guessing that’s the official rejection or wait list notification

I’m for sure asking for a review so I can be better next year. I’m really curious as to what schools look for!
When I was rejected last year the application review was hugely helpful. I addressed their concerns and was accepted this year. Good luck next year, keep trying, it is worth it.

OOS officially waitlisted.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to change the email username we were assigned for our wsu email?

I doubt it, but I'd call IT and ask because people who get married their email stays the same as their maiden even if everything else gets changed. Even if they got married before they started school but applied with their maiden name

I have a 3rd year friend with 2 emails in the system, so it's possible, at least!

How do I request a review?
It was in my rejection letter from last year as to how to request an appointment to review my application. However, if I remember correctly I just called the admissions office and requested it. I had a phone appointment with Dr. Talcott. I found it very helpful. Feel free to reach out if you have questions. This can be a long and tiring process that feels like a roller coaster of highs and lows. Hang in there and keeping fighting for what you want.

OSS waitlisted. Do anybody know the average pull out rate for the waiting list? According to the 2022 and 2023 thread there was only one person been pulled out the waitlist. 🙁 🙁 🙁

does anyone know how to select a WSU white coat size for the white coat ceremony? do they tend to run small or large?

Does Washington State require a fee to accept our admission offer!? I haven't read about it anywhere.

Nope, there is no fee! You just have to call/email/sign and return the acceptance letter that was sent you.

when/how do we get the housing packet for WSU?

Hi all!

I was wondering if you guys are planning on preparing for school in any way and if so what approach are you going to do? I am currently using the CSU animal anatomy tool that they made free but I'd love to know how others are going to be preparing too. Thanks!

Don’t study before you start! You’ll just be burnt out by the time school rolls around 🙂

I second the don't study before you start.

The burnout during vet school is bad enough that its not worth stressing over stuff before it even starts. Plus, nothing can truly prepare you for all that is involved in each class. If you want to look over material like the CSU anatomy stuff go for it but don't stress over it. Take a break, get in a good place mentally before school starts and hit the ground running when it does.

Since I am stuck at home all day it's been fun to look over the anatomy but i will try to not over do it, thanks!

@desertdwelling showed me that there are recommended books listen on the Orientation page https://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/innovative-education/cole/reference-books I ordered these and am reading them over the quarantine period. Seems like some good general mental health stuff 🙂

Thanks so much! I had no idea about this, I am definitely going to get them. I am going a little crazy being stuck at home all day and I want to keep myself occupied and my mind sharp. I am so excited, thanks!!😀

I totally agree. I was going insane and watching too much tv! I was able to order all 3 used off amazon with prime delivery. They might even help you navigate any stress/anxiety produced by the pandemic alone.

Welp I signed a lease in Pullman and now I'm stressing that they'll have to postpone fall semester or do it online and I'll be trapped with a lease in a place I can't actually live... :dead:
I mean if they postpone the fall semester there's gonna be huge issues all round. #spayblock I sympathize. Depending who you signed with they have a "COVID special" meaning you can break your lease if fall gets cancelled/online.

Take it Back! Don't even think like that. Spay Block A future third year here. I don't even want to think about the logistics of fall being postponed. If it makes you feel any better I just signed a 2 year lease on my place literal days before this whole mess.

Dude I feel you! My husband and I signed a lease in the winter (so much for trying to be ahead of everything) and we were supposed to move in early summer so he can go job-hunting before my classes start up. Thinking about this potentially affecting the fall semester and job availability makes me want to vomit.

Hey guys! I am on the waitlist. Wondering if I can be taking my classes pass/fail this semester or if WSU wants grades?
I spoke with Stacey from WSU last week and she said that they are accepting pass/fail grades for this semester! But I would always call to be sure anyway!
