WSU 2024-2025 (c/o 2029 hopefuls)

hey guys i’m from illinois and on the waitlist in tier 2! my bf is from the seattle area and im visiting him this weekend and we’re gonna go up to wsu to visit just for me to consider in case i do get off the waitlist, since im anyways going to be in the area. I know pretty much everything is only open to the public on the weekdays and the vth tour has been booked out. So i’m wondering if anyone has any insight on if it’s possible to see the school on sat or sun. If not does anyone just have any recommendations of what we can see on the campus in general for sat or sun.
All vet school buildings are locked on weekends. Only vet students, faculty members, clinicians, and vet school-related personnel have access to the buildings. The only way to get into the buildings on the weekend is to ask anyone you know who is currently studying or working in vet school to give you a private tour.
I think the VTH lobby is still open on weekends as we provide emergency care service. Otherwise, I am sorry that you might not be able to see anything vet school-related on the weekend. However, you can still look around the whole campus and get familiar with the area.

Not this weekend, but next Saturday...

We have a bear center here, which can be fun to see! You could go downtown and check out the coffee shops there if that's your vibe, and if you have time, you should also check out Moscow, ID. There is a bit more to do in Moscow. Another place to visit would be Kamiak Butte, which is a nice park and hiking area!

I’m planning to accept my seat as an OOS student!! Are there any group chats or Facebook groups for our class?
Congrats! There is a Facebook group that will let you in as soon as you formally accept your offer. It is called “WSU DVM Class of 2029.” There is also a secondary Facebook group for all past, current, and future WSU DVM students called “WSU CVM Students: Classifieds.” I look forward to meeting you next year 🙂

Hey! Do you mind letting me know when you accepted your offer? I did mine two weeks ago but I have not been added to any FB group yet. I will email Amie as well.

I accepted my offer on 2/28 and was accepted the next day, so that’s weird. I would contact Amie

Just curious but has anyone been pulled off of the waitlist (any tier). Just monitoring this thread/wsu website for movement so I can keep my anxiety at a reasonable level😅

I got the survey this morning and was waitlisted 3rd tier. I accepted at a different school but if WSU said yes idk it would be tough. I’m not really expecting the waitlist to move so far into the 3rd tier but we’ll see?

Congratulations on your acceptance!! Did you decide to stay on WSU waitlist or ask to be removed?

I said I was still interested. The cost difference would be huge by like more than 100,000 (plus cheaper COL) and my interest is large animal which TBH I think the debt load from wsu is the only way I could do large animal full time and not end up doing small animal emergency med. Pullman is definitely a shocker though and I live in rural nowhere already 😂

If it makes you feel better one of my mentors is a recent grad with 300+k in debt and she is working her dream job in LA. She makes her monthly payments, is married, and is currently pregnant. She said it’s tough but they live within their means and it is totally a livable life. She made me feel 100x better about debt and life post grad. If you want to, you WILL make it work!

Interesting to see a survey go out. I'm top of the Idaho waitlist and did not receive an email for that survey

After thinking through it, it makes sense that they wouldn't send emails like that to an in state wait-list. I mean, we all want cheaper schooling haha.

I am Washington and I did not receive one either. I am guessing they are trying to pare down their OOS waitlist so they have fewer applications to review. Most people have a better idea at this point regarding if they are interested in WSU or not. The IS waitlists are much smaller with fewer applications to go through.

Looks like there are 7 IS (Washington) seats remaining and 33 OOS seats remaining, so it makes sense that they would check interest for the OOS waitlist since they’ll have a review a high volume of applications to fill all of those seats. Acceptance statistics

What do you mean review them? If we’re already given a tier aren’t we ranked OOS?

They rank by tiers but do not give a numbered ranking. They will review the apps in each Tier to fill the remaining seats based on what they feel their class needs. They will take all of the applicants from Tier 1 prior to moving to Tier 2, but everyone in each Tier is ranked pretty evenly.

Do you have any insight on how many people are in each tier ?

If you click back through this thread, there is a list of multiple people in the different tiers. Washington is 10 per tier. I don’t think we know how many people are in each OOS tier, but it appears to be much higher than that. You could always email the admissions office to ask.

It is nice to hear that there at least some people making it work! I feel like I've been anxious about money all my life I yearn for the day I can hear a sound coming from my car and not spend every last cent on it lol. I've wondered about doing the public service for underserved communities for loan forgiveness but all the loan shenanigans going on right now makes me feel dodgy about that

It's normal to be worried, but don't be anxious. We're all on the same page (well, I'm on the Canadian side) and we will find a way. I'm confident the loan forgiveness will either stay or it'll come back by 2029!
I had my stable/boring job and decided to follow my passion, and I regret it why I didn't do this sooner, even though I know it'll be a chaotic roller coaster. My two cents is that look at the bright side, you'd be a DVM, doing something you care and compassionate about; helping animals and their humans is a unique skill to have.

Hey! Anybody considering Montana for the first year in here? Or anybody committed to Montana campus for the first year? I'm accepted to Pullman but would definitely consider it.. but the cost of housing is quite high!

Do they give you the option to choose?

Hoping for the best for us waitlisters 🥺🥺🥺 I paid my deposit for another school but I’m really hoping for WSU because it would be closer to home and so much more affordable (by like over 100k lmao)

It's so depressing seeing only one IS spot left with an estimated 40 people on the IS waitlist. Biting my nails trying to squeeze into Utah State University last minute.
I’m in the same boat

I was told by admissions that we won’t receive an updated waitlist position and our tiers will not change based on the survey we filled out. The amount of people in each tier are the only thing that will change and they won’t reveal that either lol. Looks to be about 20~ oos spots available so I’m sure tier 1 is probably safe but other than that it’s fair game I guess

To give others info- it says decision must be made by Friday, so hopefully next tier will hear after that if additional spots remain for others. Best of luck everyone!!! We’re in it together ❤️❤️

Thank you so much! I haven’t fully decided yet to be honest, but WSU was at the top of my list for choices. I think the moving logistics is so intimidating though!
Don't let the logistics keep you from saving big $$$$$ if going to WSU would do that for you. Logistics have a way of sorting themselves out. I'm orchestrating a cross-country move rn and it sucks, but eventually, it will all be said and done. Go to the cheapest school you get into!!
