WSU c/o 2017 Applicants!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats to all who have learned of their acceptance! 🙂

And good luck to those who haven't. Keep your head high!

That is what I got in an email from Barbara this morning. Sooo, I'm guessing they may have sent out a few, but the majority of packets have not gone out yet.

Yeah I go that e-mail too. They finalized all decisions this morning and sent them out this afternoon.

If you don't mind me asking, was that an acceptance email or something she just sent out?

No it was a general e-mail. I was wondering if my mom had given her the correct address so I emailed to confirm and she told me stuff was sent out today!

PHEW! Thanks for the update, now I won't eagerly wait for the mailman! ...Well, not until later this week anyways

Yes I am trying to refrain from stalking the mailman!

Side note--have there been any changes to the portals of those accepted? Just wondering...

I envision OOS WSU applicants across the nation camping at their mailboxes today and then jumping the mailman when he/she finally comes around .

Seriously though, I feel really bad for you guys. It's sooo painful to be given a time frame for a response only to have to wait even longer.

I'm really pulling for my non-SDN friend/co-worker--WSU is her top choice and I desperately want her to receive good news today!

No change to my portal, just that all my materials were received.

I was wondering the same thing, as my 'transcripts' box has disappeared from my portal page. Trying not to read too much into it but. . . :wtf:?

My 'transcripts' section seems to have disappeared too...also trying not to read too much into it!

I don't think you need to worry. I was accepted as IS a couple weeks ago, and my transcript section is missing as well.

Ugh...mailman just came and STILL nothing today!!!

You're kidding me.

I'm not that far from Pullman. If you guys want, I can drive over there and bang on the doors.

Dang it, what state are you in? I was hoping today would be the day... 🙁
I'm on the east coast (Boston), so maybe the rest of you will get lucky today!! I just emailed Barbara to see if I could get an update, so will post when I hear back!

I'm in California, heading home early today to check mail so I'll let y'all know if there is anything!

I got a letter postmarked on the 19th, so everyone else should be receiving something this week.

WSU why you take so long?! I'm seriously driving my entire family, especially my fiance, insane asking if I got anything in the mail every single day. My fiance keeps telling me to calm down and wait until the end of the week before I start harassing the admin people. Anyone else getting this annoyed at the snail mail?:bang:

I didn't even apply to WSU and I'm about to go postal over this!

Pun intended :naughty:

Im in Arkansas and I finally reached Barbara Hodson after 5+ attempts by phone where she told me my alternate status verbally... I still don't have anything in the mail either, but at least I know now!

My SO likes to joke that the pony express needs to take a break along the route to our states... I want to avoid calling but this waiting is treacherous... Here's to hoping today is the day! :xf:

I'm on the east coast and FINALLY received my letter today. Selected as an alternate...kinda bummed, but fortunately have other options!

Ahh still nothing for me in California... Anyone else in CA hear back yet?? =\

I just got my letter today in Reno. It says I'm an alternate for the pullman and logan site. Does anyone know if that means I'm considered alternate for both the USU/WSU program and the 4 year WSU program or just USU/WSU? I emailed Barbara asking her that and to see if she had a ranking for the alternates so I could better know what my chances are of being accepted. I'm so tired of waiting and was so excited to get my letter...and now I get to wait 🙂

vetgirl2129 a friend of mine called Barbara today, but spoke with someone else and was told that there are no rankings for alternates and that when a spot becomes available, they meet to decide who is offered the spot. Also, my letter said alternate for pullman and logan site as well. I'm planning on calling on Monday to find out what this means, I can let you know when I find out.

MY LETTER FINALLY CAME! I'm on the alternate list, but IT FINALLY CAME!! Of course this means I'm in vet school limbo for two schools now -.- I'm not excited about that. Sometimes I think being an alternate is worse than rejection just because we now have to wait even longer for a chance that might never come. Here's hoping Illinois offers better news!

It means you're an alternate for each site. I was an alternate last year and called to confirm.

Does WSU tend to work their way through a good chunk of the alternate's list? I know K-State tends to burn through it wildfire but I haven't heard anything about WSU.

Still nothing in Illinois either. GAH, I'm trying so hard to be patient but this is getting a little ridiculous... :lame:

Hold on just a little longer! I'm sure you'll be getting it pretty soon, and then the waiting game will (hopefully) be over.

Waitlisted but keeping hopes up :xf: Does anyone know how many people are usually waitlisted? Just curious as it seems like a good chunk of us on this forum are on the wait list, but I'm guessing that it is similar for OOS applicants in most places?

For those of you who have received acceptance letters, are they big or regular-sized?

Wait listed as well :/
Washington's my first choice so I'm super bummed.

Does anyone know if they will tell you your rank on the wait list if you call?

Also, do you know if they call people pretty soon after April 15th? I'm just afraid to sign a lease for next year at another school with the off-chance that I could be called.

I'm out of state but come from a state that has a vet school. I know that at least at University of Illinois' vet school, from their OOS pool they give preference to students that come from states that don't have a vet school. Does anyone know if Washington works the same way?

They don't rank their waitlist. I don't know about preference for states without schools though. I don't think so?

Alrighty, so I emailed Barbara and this is what she told me when I asked her the questions:

"Firstly, is it possible to know my numerical rank on the wait list? Is there usually an average number of students that decline their offers each year? Lastly, how much after April 15th are most student alternates contacted about a spot opening up? "

Her responses:

"1st we don't rank our alternates. The reason being because we made our first round offers and now all the alternates are in a pool of their own and will be ranked only among alternate students.
2nd each year is different with alternates. Some years we go down the list and offer students and some years we don't offer any.
3rd If we need to offer students on the alternate list we usually do it within a couple of weeks of the April 15th deadline. "

I hope that helps clarify things for other people too! There's no real way of estimating if we'll be called but at least this gives us an idea of when we would know by if they do need to call alternates

Does anyone have any information on how to secure in-state tuition after our first year? I've been looking in to it and it seems that you must establish residency in Washington State after one year-- driver's license, register to vote, work, etc. Can anyone attest to how difficult this process is? I'm mostly worried about working... I wasn't planning on having a job that first year! :scared:

You need to switch your driver's license, voters registration, bank account, insurance etc.

My friends that did it this year don't seem to think it's too bad. You will be able to ask your big sib when we are assigned in June. They give OOS 1st years OOS 2nd year big sibs so you should be able to ask them any specific questions. None of my friends have jobs and our academic services think they'll be fine. We also discuss it during orientation and you will get a little packet of recommendations to ensure residency.

Good luck!

Quick question. I can't seem to find anything on their website, but does WSUs CVM offer a dual DVM/PhD program? I know a few colleges do, but I'm not sure how common it is. Forgive me for my ignorance! Also, huge congrats to WSU c/o 2017!!! 😍

Not officially. We have just set up a task force to discuss creating one. But that would be at least one (likely more) years out.

I am doing the Research Scholars program which is basically a scholarship plus summer stipend to agree to do summer research for 2 summers. PM me with any questions 🙂

Thanks for the info! I have 1.5 years before applying, so that may work out. I'm not 100% sure that I would even be going for it, but I'm weighing my options, and with WSU as my top choice this seemed like a relevant question! When I get home and I'm not mobile, (I love this app!) I'll check out your link!

Hi everybody! Facebook is up for WSU CVM Class of 2017-come join the group 🙂😀
