Hi! Does anyone know if they've started to contact waitlisters?
Another one bites the dust... :/ I guess I'm down to 3 waitlists.Hey I called Barbara Hodson to have myself removed from the waitlist because I got into another school and she said they were "happy with where they were" and won't be contacting any waitlisters from the sound of it. 🙁
Oh thanks! That's really helpful. So courses/exams will be graded the same ol' way we've always had them graded? It won't be the fictional list on the door of where you stand with regards to your classmates?
The week before school starts we have the orientation/leadership thing .what is that all about!? Is it right in Pullman? For just us first years or do all veterinary students go?
Anything special you think we should know? Any special ways we should be preparing for vet school in pullman? I am excited! 🙂
You guys will be great! Vet school is awesome and I'm excited to meet the incoming class!
Oh and I just realized- my perspective is only Pullman campus. I really have no idea how the Utah campus does the ranking/exam return process (although I would suspect the same as the Pullman campus). I think there is someone on the forum from Utah who is semi-active on SDN so hopefully she can answer these questions from the Utah perspective 🙂
Camelidcrazy, thank you so much for your support. You are so sweet to offer so much of your time to settling our nerves, and I look forward to meeting you. It really does make a difference.

Thanks friend! The ranking is combined with our counterparts up at WSU. Like Camelidcrazy said, we aren't involved in the process at all. I know our courses this semester haven't lined up the same, so I am sure the statistics are normalized to accommodate for the differences between campuses. It's something I haven't really been all that concerned about and haven't inquired about my rank, but there are a few people who could point you in the right direction here. At the end of the day, even the person ranked last in the class still gets a DVM as long as they pass all their classes. Try not to stress about the ranking that much!
Several of our tests have been taken on the computer, and have been written by our professors here. So our exam return process is quite a bit different than our counterparts. But don't worry, we've got your back! We've gone through quite a few hurdles to improve the glitches for the next group! 😀 you're welcome!
As far as COLE goes, ditto everything Camelidcrazy said! (Heeeeeeyyyyy I'm a COLE mentor too!) It will be a phenomenal time! I'm also an ambassador, so I'll get to see you all before you leave for COLE, so you'll already know a group of us before it starts. I know your packets are still being compiled and you're super antsy to get all the details. Just keep being patient! They'll come!
If you have anymore questions about the USU aspect of things, just let me know! (Maybe PM me...I don't come on here as often anymore, but I get alerts for PM, so that'll remind me to check it!)
Super excited to meet everyone!!!

Hey thanks for all the awesome info! I'm itching to finish up this semester & get down to Logan for a visit. I emailed the class prez about this, but wondering what your thoughts are about the difficulty of finding housing with a big dog? It's always been a constant struggle for me in MT.
Abney, I never asked, how was your st. Patty's day visit?
I have a border collie and a cat. I did have to do some negotiating with my landlord to let me have him. Several of our classmates have decent sized dogs (seems like those who do live in houses rather than apartments). It's definitely a possibility, you'll just have to dig a little. And obviously start now! Have you tried looking at KSL.com? You may have more luck there than you would with craigslist or other local classifieds. My rental is through coldwell banker gold key realty, so you may check them out and see if they have any options for you. I had to live a little farther removed from campus for my place, but it's only about 15-20 min to get to school so it's not too bad. So if you come across places in Hyrum, Millville, Providence, or River Heights, those places are all about 15 min from campus, but looking there may give you some more options. Cache Valley is kind of a string of little communities connected by the highway, so commuting is not too much of a drag.
It was awesome! I met all but one of our professors and the program coordinator, who is seriously probably the nicest man I have ever met! And the area is beautiful! I'm so excited!
Question about the COLE thing. Do you have to spend the night/multiple nights at this place in Idaho or is a just a day thing? It will really suck if it is overnight since I would have to make special arrangements for my pets.
That's unfortunate. Well, one of my cats is currently trying to chew his way into a package of pasta so maybe a break wouldn't be so bad. The eight month old pair are nothing but trouble.
This may be a dumb question, but when is the first day of class?
August 19th! And just FYI, USU follows WSU's school calendar (which is a little off from the rest of the university...for instance we get a whole week at Thanksgiving while the rest of USU only gets half the week!). So you can find the calendar on WSU's website if you are planning for travels over Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring Break. 👍
Hey thanks for all your info! Now I have an official calendar--thrilled! 😀
Hey question for Camelidcrazy-
Do you know when we should expect to hear about our financial aid awards? I read somewhere most schools send them in early to mid April. Does WSU send them out in our packets? Thanks in advanced!
Question-- how forgiving are professors about missed classes for certain excuses? A close friend is getting married halfway across the country (on a Friday, of course 🙄 ) and I'm supposed to be in the wedding party. Is it crazy to expect my professors to let me make up a lab/test, depending on what's going on the two days that I will miss? Will they be upset if I miss lectures?
Our profs @ USU have been pretty good about that kind of stuff. Just let them know in advance. Missing lecture is up to you to get the notes (and a lot of our profs post their lecture slides) so it is not too big a deal. We had one student that had to miss a test for a Jesish holiday. They let him take it early so he could get out of town. They treat you like professionals--when things come up they let you take care of it, but it's up to you to catch yourself up.
