WSU/USU c/o 2018 applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Aww, I am sorry :/ I was just curious because I applied there so was just wondering your thoughts on it! But WSU is better so hopefully you get in there! ;]
Oh I see! Yeah I think it's a great school and has a collaborative environment. I want WSU to call me up more than anything! Being patient is hard XD ugh!

Yeah patience is the worst thing about this whole process! I finally heard back from my last school, and I am just glad to be done with everything haha, but don't worry, you will hear soon! And hopefully it is good news and we can be classmates!!! :]

It truly is!! I feel like a neurotic mess! I hope for good news as well! Yes I'm so excited to meet new classmates and new friends in an environment where I can constantly nerd out about animals around people who will do the same ^_^

Haha yeah I am so used to being the only animal or pre-vet related student I don't know what to do when I run into others like me!

Same here!! My school only has like 6 pre-vet kids and I'm one of two applying this cycle. I'm the odd kid out in all of my classes!

Oh wow!! Yeah that's mega small!!

Alrighty then! Now I know. But it basically means that everyone knew I was applying, and so everyone has been asking for updates since I applied. Kind of sucked when I was getting waitlisted and such. But, on the bright side, I got tons of congratulations in the past couple of days for UMN from tons of people I barely even know. That was nice.

That would be hard!! Congrats on the acceptance though!! I bet everyone was rooting for you!! Is UMN your top school?

Well, WSU was my top school mainly because I could obtain residency after my first year. But then once I visited MN for my interview, I really really liked it a lot and could see myself going there. The only downside is the cost. :/ So, it's not a big deal that I was waitlisted at WSU because now I feel like I'm supposed to go to UMN. 🙂

That is actually kind of an awesome situation!! WSU is my top for the reason you mentioned and more reasons that I discovered through visiting. So sadly, if I don't get called I'll be going to a more expensive school that I likes less. But I think any school will be amazing and I'm very thankful to have a backup plan.

I looooooved the feel of WSU. It felt so nice and comfortable and like people treat you like family. I come from a long line of small schools (my high school graduating class was 18), and Washington felt that way. But yeah. I'm very happy with UMN and don't wish it had gone any other way.

I'm the same way (although my hs was 99 in my class). I got that vibe too! Well I' very happy for you! It sounds like everything worked out just a certain way for you!! I hope things turn out well for me too!

Your high school graduating class was 18????? Mine was like 1000. My college had like 16K in it and thats considered small here 😵

Hahahaha. Yeah. I went to school with pretty much the same kids from 2nd grade-12th. 😀

My university also has about 16K which is small for a public university here.

That's absolutely insane 😵. Yeah my school felt super small after doing a year at University of Washington (~66K people).... I can't even IMAGINE having a college of 1000 people.

Exactly what I went through, only 2 of us from my school who applied. Small private school as well full of pre-meds who don't understand the INSANE competitiveness of vet school. They all just assumed I would get in everywhere and then choose where I want to go! Ha! But yeah, it hasn't not been fun explaining how I'm just sitting on waitlists.... 🙁 everyone everyday asks me if I've heard.... Lol it's getting ridiculous!

Yeah most of my friends kept asking "what school what school", I kept telling them I had to wait on all 4 for a bit, it feels good to FINALLY tell them something haha. As for the pre-meds I actually tend to get people saying that vet school is harder to get into than med, and then I feel bad because really they are both insanely hard to get into lol.

I got asked literally everyday. Omg. I was like 'If I heard anything you can be sure I would've told you before you asked!!'

Congrats! I'll see you at COLE as a mentor 🙂

(also, there is a delete ya goobers, it's under the edit)

But where? I literally can't find it anywhere, and I'm usually so good at figuring this stuff out. Hahaha.

Well, yeah. Here's the edit button:

Hello everyone! Although I absolutely loved USU/WSU (the joint program has MUCH to offer aspiring veterinarians), I will be declining my offer of admission to attend another program to which I was recently admitted. This in no way diminishes my positive impression of USU/WSU. WIMU is a fantastic program. Declining my position was a very difficult decision to make. For any Utah residents currently waitlisted, you are one fortunate guy/gal! You will be getting a world class education at two great universities! I wish the WIMU Class of 2018 the Best of Success!! I'll be sure to check in on this board frequently to see how everything is going. Utah has been my home for the previous 4 years, and I will miss it dearly when I depart this fall. Please give Logan (and Pullman) lots of love for me!!

Good luck wherever you end up!! (Looks like NCState?) still hoping a spot in Pullman opens up for me from OOS! I'm happy that you got accepted to a school that you are super excited about!!

Glad you were able to make the tough decision. Congrats!! We're gonna be vets. 🙂

Oh, trust me, Mysterymare. I was super excited about USU/WSU as well. WIMU is a GREAT program. This was a difficult decision to make. NCSU has been my dream school for a number of years (long before I ever moved to Utah, and before WIMU was ever conceived). I made a trip from California to Raleigh specifically to visit the school in the mid-2000s. NCSU has a dedicated, tracking program in laboratory animal medicine [it is the only veterinary school in the US to offer such a curriculum], and is located in the heart of Research Triangle Park (the largest concentration of biomedical research corporations in the world). In terms of what the school can offer me with respect to opportunities in my area of interest, NCSU is really second to none. That doesn't mean, however, that there aren't aspects of the WSU package that I'll miss. I LOVED the concept of COLE (I was really looking forward to participating), the Diagnostic Challenges sounded amazing, and the general non-competitive nature of WSU's culture was very appealing. As I said, a difficult choice to make. Both are excellent schools, each with its own positives and negatives. Whoever takes my place will have a wonderful experience- I have no doubt. I'm rooting for you to gain an acceptance off the waitlist 🙂 As I said, WIMU will always hold a special place in my heart. I'll be checking back in frequently to see how things fly. Best of success!

That sounds perfect for you!!! I'm so glad you got into your top school!! I imagine you are just on cloud nine right now!! That honestly sounds like the perfect place for an aspiring lab vet!! Keep is updated on your vet school journey!!

Congrats lab vet! Good luck at NCSU! We'll miss having you!
Aw, Abney. I'm gonna miss you. I really, really enjoyed meeting everyone during my interview. I got a bunch of warm fuzzies from USU. You all have a great thing going up in Logan! I'll definitely keep a presence here on the USU/WSU board, just to see how things are progressing. You'll be an absolutely spectacular COLE mentor- just perfect for the role 🙂 Please pass along my best wishes to the upperclassmen, as well as all members of the Class of 2018. They're in for a fantastic education 🙂

Hello everyone! I have been watching this thread for a while. I saw my status page change to alternate when everyone else did, but never received a letter about it. Has everyone received a letter about their status? Also, does anyone know how many are on the wait list?

I got a letter about my alternate status. Are you IS or OOS?

Yeah I got a letter as well. I'm OOS

Any current students/Pullman residents know anyone selling a trailer? So far I haven't had much luck on Craigslist.

What's your email? I've been getting almost daily emails with trailers for sale from current students and would gladly forward them to you!

Hi all, I'm an incoming 1st year and just bought a super nice 3 bedroom home in golden hills (nice quiet neighborhood in pullman on the bus line I to campus next to a bike trail) with a 6' fenced back yard and nice front patio. I would like to rent out two rooms to classmates for $350 if you want one of two ~11x11 rooms with a shared bathroom on one side of the house, or if you want the larger master bed with private full bath and walk in closet on opposite side of the house it would be more. W/S/G incl., we would split cost of electric/internet. I plan to install a doggie door for my friendly whippet mix, (see my profile pic) and just about any other pets you might have/want are welcome!

I am also an incoming 1st year, and that actually seems like a really good idea! If the spots are still open shoot me a message and we can talk more about it! :]

Perfect, I think I started a private "conversation" with you but I'm new to SDN so I'm not sure I did it right.

Hi everyone!

I am currently a first year vet student at WSU. I'm looking for a new roommate, so if you're still looking for housing please read the following information then contact me if you are interested!

thanks
and congratulations if you've been accepted!

------------------

I have 1 room available for rent in a large 3 bed, 2 bath house near Military Hill. It is a very nice, quiet, residential neighborhood; 5 minute drive to school, 10-15minute bus ride with E&A bus stop 2 blocks away, can walk to school in about 30-40 minutes.

It has a kitchen with all the appliances (even a dishwasher), a little deck with a BBQ (and a great view), a large study room, a TV room fully furnished upstairs, and a washer and dryer downstairs. There's even a garage for you to park your car so you don't have to scrape ice in the winter!

There is a decent sized fenced backyard, and we would love for you to bring your dog and/or cat (we will be losing all the pets in the house when our current roommate leaves). There is a refundable pet deposit, which will have to be arranged with landlady.

The room for rent is downstairs with a PRIVATE BATHROOM, personal small study room/living area, and access to the backyard (large closable dog door already in place). It's the largest room of the house and has a nice-sized window with plenty of closet space.
The rent is $420 monthly. Additionally, we pay for electric and cable/internet, everything else is covered by the landlord.

Utilities average about $60-70 monthly per person.
The cable/internet is $30/month/person.

Your roommates would be a 2nd year veterinary student and a grad student who works and spends most of her time in the lab.

Our current roommate is a 4th year vet student who is leaving us in May, and so the room would be available sometime around then. Landlady requests that we find a tenant who can pay rent though the summer (sorry!).

please send me a message if you are interested and let me know a little bit more about yourself!

thanks again

Hey guys! I'm on the OOS waitlist and have been stalking these threads for some time now but just joined. fingers crossed everyone hears good news soon if you are still waiting to hear like me!
