Pippy: I hope you are obeying social distancing guidelines on your IRL hike, jboo and moose

Jboo: for sure. Several people even brought measuring ribbons! (tape measurer, I'm guessing)

Cubs: what if everyone ends up being forced to speak french by the end of the game?

Jboo: to be clear, I will be freed of this restriction at close.

I'm going to pull a LIS and lynch the distraction. This isn't going to go anywhere and is just going to cause more confusion as the game goes on.

Lynch AM

Unlynch jboo
Lynch Fern

I'm assuming this is because Ferny voted AM as opposed to others simply expressing their frustration for AM's French posts?

So Jboo is saying that this restriction is only for today?
so is AM’s a restriction too? If so should she have been freed from it already?

@TheGirlWithTheFernTattoo now that AM has quieted down a bit and there is discussion on the thread, do you still think it's worth voting her out?

Especially given that it's possible (I assume) for her to communicate via PM, and her posts do not actually sound wolfy?
I'm keeping my vote where it is for now. I don't have any strong enough feelings for anyone else to justify changing it as a D1 vote.

Things like this will keep coming up again and again in the game until you crack the egg. So since D1 is always a bit of a crapshoot, I think I'm going to just go with cracking the egg early. @LetItSnow I'm using your game strategy, be proud.

The retaliatory vote was poor gameplay and didn't contribute, especially since she said voting for her was a noob mistake. The ragequit kind of just sealed it for me; I've never seen her do that and I have seen more than 1 player over the years do that as wolves (myself included).

Really? I'm not sure I remember AM rage quitting before. Spicy salt yes, actually leaving of the thread? Eh
If she can't get people to listen to a single thing she says and is forced off the thread? Yeah I feel like she has acted similarly in the past once or twice. I certainly would put this within the realm of the response I would expect from her given the circumstances.

I'm confused why people are thinking it is just a restriction; it's been 2 days and Jboo is restricted today. I'm sure it is just her role.

Also if the mods made the province of Quebec (or Bloc Quebecois) a 3rd party role I'm going to be thoroughly entertained. It wouldn't be that far off from reality.

Question: as a Canadian, do you think there is an element of negativity associated with the french speaking population?

aka, if you thought her role was that she had to speak exclusively in French on thread, would you lean that role wolfy?

Ok, so you are voting off possible chaos on D1 instead of looking elsewhere for wolves?

Seems kind of redundant? A role where you have to French AND a separate role where you make other people French? Eh idk

No, I think that role could go either way. I've seen villagers and wolves both with posting restrictions in the past. So the role to me doesn't give you an inclination 1 way or the other. For me the biggest thing is distraction, and people paying attention to that and trying to translate rather than focusing on everyone else.

As for the 1st part: that's a dangerous question lol. The current majority (I think?) political party in Quebec has a main "mission" of having Quebec separate from Canada and be its own thing. From what I have been told (disclaimer I live on the other side of the country and don't know anyone in Quebec besides a few vet students I met at symposium), there is a fairly anti-anglophone sentiment in the province. Some people, especially on the west coast side of things, roll their eyes about that political party wanting to separate from the rest of Canada.

oh my gosh folks -- usually post restrictors choose from different restrictions day to day

So yes, someone may have chosen last night to post restrict jboo with a redundant restriction, but what does it mean? e.g. is the person who would choose that wolfy? Does it make jboo wolfy? Does it tell us anything about AM's affiliation?

It's a waste of words to keep discussing it unless we start talking about it in the context of who the wolves are

This is about to be more of a distraction than the french was

Ok.

Do you think Quebec is wolfy?
It would make me a little uncomfortable if it was, since there is so much political and English vs French stuff in the country.

However, we have not yet been given any reason in this game to believe role will directly reflect affiliation.

I think I already said this, but I think whoever would choose that as a post restriction for someone else is likely to be a wolf, because they just doubled the amount of confusion on the thread overnight. And if AM and jboo are both village, we effectively have two silenced players today.

Intentionally handicaps the village = probably not a village action

To be fair, I would probably also have chosen to add a 2nd French restriction just for giggles, even as village.

Just would have probably chosen someone who was NOT likely going to be a topic for discussion. So the choice of Jboo, in particular, is the weird part.

Actually the choosing from different restrictions had been more of a new thing, usually (in my experience) it's a role and you choose who to restrict every day, not how. But the rest of your comment stands I suppose.

If it is an effective silence... than if they were targeting a wolfly target in their mind I could see how that could be village. Not extremely well thought out but we have more noobs here than ever before (probably not correct but lol)

I don't think the Jboo restriction is really worth talking about much today, except for the fact that a few people had questions for her yesterday and the restrictor was probably aware of that.

It's a 1-day restriction, it will be over tomorrow, and one of the rest of us will be restricted instead. Not a huge deal. We shall see if the one tomorrow is French or something new, talking about that now won't help.

~A Short Interlude (aka no strategy here, but please enjoy my beautiful country)~
Day 2 Sightseeing - Alberta's Mountains Edition

Our group's first stops today were exclusively geared towards the beautiful mountain parks of Alberta. Namely, Banff and Jasper with a small taste of the lesser known Waterton Lakes. Fun fact, each of these parks is home to a historic "castle" hotel built by the Fairmont chain to service luxury passengers on the railway tours around the turn of the century (Banff NP actually has two castles! The Chateau Lake Louise and the Banff Springs). Two of those "castles" can be appreciated below.

Starting from Banff, the coach wound it's way up to Lake Louise, which still falls within Banff National Park (Canada's first national park! Established in 1885 - 3rd national park in the world!). Lake Louise is one of the most photographed lakes in all of Canada, and 15000 people will come through every day during peak months. Not into crowds? During the winter they hold ice sculpture festivals along the lake shore, along with skating, to entertain more local visitors. The lake was originally named Ho-Run-Num-Nay (meaning lake of little fishes) by Stoney natives that had settled in the area. I would recommend against swimming! As the lake is glacier fed (hence it's beautiful colour!), it never gets about 5 degrees! If you're lucky and buy your tickets in advance, you might get a seat on the bus up to Moraine Lake. Many arguments have been had about which lake is truly superior.

After leaving Lake Louise, the group would head up the Icefields Parkway. This is often considered one of the most scenic drives in North America and is typically closed during the winter months. Along the way you can stop and see many waterfalls, appreciate the views, go for a hike, or hop in one of the glacier busses and go for a tour of the Columbia Icefields! It's truly otherworldly up there.

At the end of the Icefields Parkway, you'll find Jasper National Park. It is Canada's largest national park in the rockies and famous for Maligne Lake with it's Spirit Island. There are also almost 1000 km of maintained trails in this park. Wonderful to visit overnight, Jasper is part of a dark sky preserve and you can see more of the night sky here than in most other places. Some of the recommended sights are, of course, Maligne Lake and Canyon, Mount Edith Cavell, Athabasca Falls, and the Jasper Skytram.

Our final stop after a bit of bus hopping magic in the totally opposite direction is a personal favourite of mine, Waterton Lakes National Park. This park is well known as "where the prairies meet the mountains". Due to unique geography, there are no foothills in this area. So the prairies literally give way to soaring peaks. This has also created interesting geology and some of the oldest exposed bedrock in North America. The smallest park in the Rockies, don't let its size fool you. This is one of Alberta's most ecologically diverse regions. It has in the past few years been devastated by both a flood and a few years later a fire, but it's beauty is eternal.

Please enjoy these pictures and build a desire to come and visit when COVID is over:

Can we talk about something other than AM and French? Like MsP, or dolphin, or Kras. I think they should all be up for lynch today. But I don't have a vote to use to pressure people, so.....
I'm trying -- I saw Lawper's vote for Ms P but I'm not particularly satisfied with his explanation, because there really wasn't one.

Again, you don't know it was a choice do you?
I don't, but I'm trying to move us away from mechanical speculation just for the sake of mechanical speculation to a place where we are putting some thoughts about affiliation behind it.

But I'm about to get frustrated with being the sole person discussing who is acting wolfy vs not wolfy, so if anyone else wants to step up and ask people some questions to help locate wolves, that would be super.

Posting in the right WW country this time. 🙄

I found out this morning leaving town and going home this week. My mom is arriving tomorrow night and we are probably going to drive out on Tuesday. It is a 19 hour drive home, so I won't really be around for that time unless I can convince my mom to let me use her phone that has data (hopefully I will be able to do that!).

@TheGirlWithTheFernTattoo to summarize our earlier exchange:

I'm confused about why you're still voting for someone on the basis of being a distraction when they are voluntarily not even here anymore to distract people.

If it's because she will always be a distraction as a function of the role, then I am confused as to why you think mods would give that role to a wolf.

> if you don't think she's a wolf

> And she is not here doing the thing you said was distracting

>> There is no reason remaining for you to be voting for her instead of trying to find a wolf

Wow way to make me want to visit RIGHT NOW which is exactly when I definitely cannot

So Jboo is saying that this restriction is only for today?
so is AM’s a restriction too? If so should she have been freed from it already?

Thats the point I was making. Either its a true role thing which I dont see why the mods would do that. Jboo says her restriction wears off in 1 day, AM has been doing this for 2 days now, so its a separate thing. Either her role requires it or shes just doing it to do it, in which case again I say, how is that helpful to village when youre forced to translate her constantly, miss subtlety in posts, have difficulty remembering what was said when, etc. Then rage quitting because people dont like it, not a good look either. Thats all.

Can we talk about something other than AM and French? Like MsP, or dolphin, or Kras. I think they should all be up for lynch today. But I don't have a vote to use to pressure people, so.....

I'm ok with any of them but MSP is looking similar to her wolf play from what I read.
