Applying IS. My sister is off to CMU for undergrad in the fall. It'd be kind of cool to be in the same area again.

Oh, awesome. I can ask you questions then, 😀. (I know, I know, you're probably thinking "greaaat" but too late now, 😛. Haha.) So how do you like the area? It seems *so* quiet when I'm out there. I actually come from BFE Small Town, Michigan so it's cool, I love quiet, but... How receptive are they to diversity? And how easy is it to get to more alive areas? One thing I love about my hometown is that it is distinctly country, but if you drive 30 minutes, you're to cultural hotspots.
It's a little but of both. It has grown quite a bit since I graduated, the casino is obviously a big draw. But drive 15 min in any direction and its country all over. Msu is about 50 min away and midland about 30, Saginaw about 45. Diversity wasn't a horrible problem when I went there years ago so in sure it's no different. For undergrad I was accepted to msu and um, but I chose CMU because of its size.
Uncle johns cider mill is a must.

anyone know what their initial screening criteria are? I didn't get a secondary yet (but hopefully will soon!)...
I'm about to finish up this secondary but had a quick question.
In answering both the specific county prompt and the ties with Michigan prompt I feel like I have said almost the same thing.
Does everyone else feel the same way or is there a specific difference I am missing?

I used the MI question to expand upon how I have ties to some other areas in the state without having ever been a resident.

Does anyone still not have their letters received? In the "Document Status" menu, it shows the name and e-mail of my letter writers, but says CMU doesn't have them yet.
I called AMCAS, and they said it was "weird", but that everything was "fine on [their] end". I called CMU and they told me they would look into it (and basically just that they couldn't access them yet).
Anyone else having this problem?
Edit: Marked as received today (July 29). Weird since it now says they were received on June 10.

I know a cardiologist who will be starting as a clinical professor here. He told me in the MMI they are looking for empathetic people, those who can connect with patients and make them feel better, treat them like a person, etc. Good luck!

Congrats! Maybe a silly question, but I'm tripped up by the "session I" on 9/20 and 9/27 and "session II" on October 12. We just choose one, right?
Yes, just choose one session. The multiple sessions are for the Saturday interview days, where we have morning and afternoon sessions. All other days are on Friday and will most likely be an early afternoon start time.

My only problem is, i'm not sure if I should do it as early as possible (middle of September) on a Friday, or if I should wait until the first Saturday (mid October).
I do have Friday classes, but if possible i'd like to avoid skipping them.

For me, I see the Friday sessions as being from 8:30am. If they're going to be afternoon, that would work out better for me because I have a class from 10-11:30. Do you know when (or if) the times will be updated in the system?
Yes, this should be fixed soon. Friday MMI's will have a tentative registration/check in time of 12:30. The final schedule should be worked out soon and anyone attending an interview day will get a confirmation with full schedule prior to their scheduled day.

8/6 is when I had all my letters in, but I submitted the secondary 7/18.
I'm flying into Detroit because there are more available flights/times since it is a larger airport. It's a far drive but works better for my schedule. I rented a car from Alamo. Cheapest option is 25 a day for a compact car. Renting a car is allowed as long as you are 21+. Most places charge 14-15 dollars extra per day if you are 21-24 years of age.

So this year's entering class is 90% in state residents...will that be the case for the next class?
I expect it will be similar.
CMED seems to have a strong in-state bias due to their mission, and, even if they don't explicitly favor in-state applicants, I think the doubled tuition could discourage many out-of-state applicants ($33,536 IS versus $67,072 OOS).

The following is explicitly stated in their FAQs:
All eligible U.S. and Canadian applications will be considered. CMED intends to have 80% in-state enrollment and 20% out-of-state enrollment.
