i have all "yeses", so i think im complete!

Why do people complain about Pritzker's essays? They just seem like two ordinary prompts... unless I'm missing something from the form. That said, what did you guys write about for the 2nd prompt (re: difficulty/challenge)? I had something planned but now I feel like it's not very interesting.

You'll actually get an email saying you're complete. I thought that I was complete after having all "Yes's," but then I got an email 3 days later confirming a completed file.

My "difficulty" wasn't too extreme. I talked about how I had a difficult transition from high school to college because of the coursework/courseload differences.
The must have liked something about it since I got an interview invite. 😳

Have people generally been writing anything for the additional information section? It's only 1000 characters, which is about a paragraph. I'm not sure if this is for some kind of unique circumstances, or to explain something weird about your app.

I did not write anything else.

can anyone post on here or PM me what they are including on their 'extra information' question? im not sure if i should add anything else... but im afraid if i don't it will look slackerish 😳 just wondering if a lot of other people are writing stuff, im stuck on that to submit!

I wrote about how I would continue my current project at Pritzker.

I didn't include anything, and I just got an interview; my numbers aren't too crazy. I don't think they'll think you're a slacker if you don't put anything. It'd probably be worse to write something that isn't all that important.

BTW if anyone is wondering, a few people are out of the office today b/c of illness, so if your emails aren't being replied to, don't worry.

I'm not putting anything. I think that unless you have a bad grade or other obvious blemish on your record, you should leave it blank. Think about how many essays the committee needs to read as it is...you don't want to burden them with more essays than necessary. More likely than not, everything that needs to be said has been said on AMCAS and elsewhere in your secondary.

Complete on 8/1, still haven't made an interview decision... sigh

Better than the flat out rejection I got. Without even the courtesy of an email.

It's probably coming soon. Not that that makes it any better :[

Who cares about this school? You're going to get in to so many schools! haha and I'm really not trying to make you feel better...it's the truth. You're going to kick ass!
Thanks! Hopefully we'll run into each other on the interview trail. If/when I get an interview that is.

Chubby and I are getting a room together oooooooooooooooh yeah.

Though how we will recognize you without any personal info, who knows? 😉

You should so wear a tweety bird pin on your jacket or something.
haha but since we're always posting on the interview invite thread, we all know the dates that everyone is at every school...

We really should let the Pritzker thread get back on topic I suppose... the Interview invite thread was probably the better choice for a chat.

Party pooper :[

Ouch, rejected as well.. via status check. Maybe they're barely accepting internationals this year due to class size reduction. A number of high GPA internationals/Canadians have been rejected with 37-40 MCAT scores this year (premed101 forums).

Here's to hoping for Northwestern.

Not rejected, but put on "hold" until January... Whatever that means.

Complete today!

ok...that's just plain weird! your stats are amazing!
i probably shouldnt have wasted $100 applying here 😛
Searching MDapps for people that got an interview to U Chicago this cycle (2009) brings up 16 profiles. Most have *really* good stats, but some are more reasonable. http://www.mdapplicants.com/viewprofile.php?id=10470 for example... ECs are better than me though.

So whatever screening they're doing, its not just stats. If only... Ah well, theres always hope for WashU 😉

Hey guys, current first year at Pritzker here, just wanted to wish you all luck in your application process! I'm sorry I haven't been able to get back to some of the people who've PMed me with questions about the secondary, but they've been keeping us all super busy with the rigorous summer anatomy block, social events, and the free concerts, movies, and other activities around the university and the great city of Chicago. To the people who got put on hold, don't worry too much, we tend to do that a lot and it's certainly not a death sentence for your app. I hope you all get a chance to interview here (particularly when the weather is nicer), it's really a fantastic place with the most amazing atmosphere for learning about medicine. :luck:😍:luck:

The "you are complete" e-mail I got said that we would be notified of their decision by surface mail. I'm assuming that means snail mail, which explains the lack of an e-mail regarding their decisions. Kind of depressing to know I have a rejection coming in the mail before it even gets here 🙁

Yeah, maybe they are particularly interested in a strong extracurricular record.

On hold until January. Lame.

I think what these rejections from Chicago show is that no matter how well qualified you are, you are going to get rejected from roughly 50% of the places you are applying to.

I really do not get it...They must be looking for... what?? With some of your stats, they may be focusing on very specific ECs or parts of the country they want people from.. To not even give some of you the chance of an interview to get your "personality" down, etc, is outrageous.

I guess the game and its unpredictability is getting tougher every year.

I have lower numbers than the people who were put on hold or rejected, and even though I was complete much earlier, my status page still says no decision has been made (although I'm not too hopeful for an interview). This whole process is definitely a crapshoot. All we need is one!

Another option is they just didn't like our essays... but U Chicago was the second or third secondary I did. I wasn't even fatigued at that point, and I'd say those essays are some of the better ones I've done...

Bah, who knows. The adcoms could just be flipping quarters and we would have to take it.

They print out all of our applications and then throw them from the top of the stairs. The ones that go the furthest move on.

Sorry about the bad news that some people have been getting. I think one of the problems is that Pritzker interviews fewer people relative to their class size than many other schools do, and with the planned reduction in the 2013 class, maybe things have gotten even more competitive? In regards to people with high numbers not getting interviews, I think that Pritzker tends to incorporate the idea of "fit" a lot into their decisions, so numbers help but perhaps not as much as elsewhere.

If you guys get involved with admissions to your future med school or your undergrad, I think you'll get a really good idea of just how tough it is to make admissions decisions with such a large, overqualified applicant pool and very limited spots. I do interviews for my alma mater, Princeton, now, and I often find myself begging the committee to let a particular candidate in only to have them straight out rejected in the spring. Among everyone I know who does these, no one has ever had one of their interviewees get an acceptance no matter how highly we praise them. I really hope none of them have taken their rejections personally, because there were some that I really thought the world about. It's just too competitive for everyone who deserves to get in to actually do so. =(

Okay, I am now complete. I think. Did you guys get a complete e-mail or anything? I just checked the status portal, and it says AMCAS verified- yes, Secondary submitted- yes, Letters received- yes, Fee paid- yes (something like that). So I figured if everything is marked yes, that means complete, right? I hope?
