wtf? a fleece 😱 i wish i didnt cancel my umich interview now! 😎

yah my friend applied to the B school, and they sent him a tshirt...they are so crazy on top of their game... they've sent all 4 of my parents (divorced/remarried) letters, calendars, and magazines... craziness i tell you 😍

Damn it...I want my fleece!!! 😛 Really, it's because I want something with UMich written on it 😳

ya i couldnt wait so i bought a michigan football shirt before going to the game after my interview. having two things can't hurt now

maybe they looked at the weather in houston and realized that it was 80 degrees and sunny outside and decided that i did not deserve a fleece...

Those of you who don't have your jackets yet should probably think about drafting and submitting an update letter. I hear michigan likes update letters. Good luck to all those who haven't received jackets and for those who have: congratulations!

as in my matriculation to your school is dependent upon receipt of aforementioned item of fleecy or fleece-like quality?

I wouldn't mind an interview invite 🙂

Did anyone from the december deferred group get accepted? I was deferred again until march 😕 I really want to go to U of M and I would like to know more about my chances.

Wow this is such BULL****. I can't believe michigan would push decisions (for some of us) all the way to March, when they told us that we would have a decision by december. Honestly, I agree with you mcc5--I'd rather be rejected. My positive impression of the school is quickly withering.

I totally agree with you! I'd much rather be rejected than put through such intense ambiguity. In trying to be transparent, the admissions committee causes a great deal of stress to the deferred students. First of all, why is there even a DECEMBER deferral batch if they make so few admissions offers to deferred kids in December...the vast majority of decisions are made in MARCH, why not just tell everyone they have been deferred until March??

Secondly, why does it say highly desirable December/March decision? What the hell does that even mean? If there is no 'desirable' or 'less desirable' group, why put the highly desirable label on all the deferred students? It's like they enjoy keeping us on our toes, anxiously waiting for what they have to say.

I'm glad I got into other schools, so even if UM accepts me post-March I'll gladly tell them to shove the acceptance up their asses.

Seeing the words "highly desirable" annoys the crap out of me too! I'm not holding out much hope. Does anyone know of people who have been accepted from the highly desirable group in March? Haven't they basically given out all of their acceptance offers (and if not I imagine their holding a few for people who are interviewing in the coming weeks)?

I whole-heartedly agree with you and enjoydrywax. Having my decision pushed back not once, but twice really pisses the **** out of me. You are right, "highly desirable" means nothing to me now and I should have known from the get-go that they were going to drag us through the mud.

I agree with your last sentiment too, thankfully I have been accepted to schools that I would attend over UM. However, I kind of hope I get an acceptance from these clowns so I can reject them in a manner similar to how they treated us:

Dear UMSOM,

The acceptance pool this year has been very competitive, and I regret to inform you that you have been placed on my "highly desirable but really not" list. Please wait until April to hear my final decision.

hahahaha PWNED!

I heard from a friend that although UMich claims to have a pass/fail curriculum in the first two years, the faculty and administration actually keep a record of your grades and GPA and this appears on your transcript when applying for residencies. As a result, it's not as stress-free of a place as they make it seem. Can anyone confirm this?

Sorry yall had bad experiences. I personally had a wonderful time when I visited. I really felt like everything was really on point and well-presented. They even had a representative of a student group take me out for coffee when the day was over.

Thank you GloryField, arbiter of all things professional.

Like I said, I just feel like I have been treated pretty unfairly and like anonymous says, there's nothing professional about unfair treatment.

They must be hating on my application. I have not heard a word and the status remain the same since 7/28/08!

If we're interviewing this month are they still letting people in or are we basically interviewing for wait-list spots?

they've handed out 320/350 spots so far. this friday they should be sending another batch of decisions....

Why is this thread so dead 🙁
I really really liked michigan *crosses fingers* but I'm not too hopeful of getting a direct acceptance since there seems to be only 30 spots left (and they're probably reserving more for the last 2 interview groups and MSTP students).... I wonder if deferment = wailist??

Not gonna lie, if you look at the admissions web page, there are 25 interviews left to be offered. There are only 3 more interview days left (Jan 16, Feb 6 and Feb 13) and they're done. It's more or less over if you haven't heard from them already. Disappointing to be sure but that's part of why nobody's been posting in this thread lately. And the bit with the deferred decisions also doesn't make people happy as you can see from earlier. Can't keep everybody happy, I guess!

Good luck with your decision, btw. It's never over until it's over.

The 2/13 interview date was actually cancelled a while ago, so only this friday and 2/6 remain. I think today is the last day the adcom is meeting to discuss bringing in the remaining interviewees, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

              Interviews Offered: 745 of 750
              Admissions Offers made: 95%
I wonder what these 5 interview offers are being saved for 😱

march deferment 🙁 which basically means waitlist, considering there are only 5% offers being handed out. sighhhhhh

Does that 95% refer to 170 spots or 350? :xf:it would only make sense to me to be 170 because they cannot offer more spots than are available! Anyone know for sure?

--++--

I want to go to UMMS so bad! For sure my top!

Unfortunately, it is 95% of the 350ish acceptances. This is according to information on the accepted students website. Good luck!

all schools give out more acceptances (i think usually its double or maybe a bit less) than their end class size because not everyone who is accepted will choose to attend that institution. Then I think they just hope (based on past data and whatnot) that the number of people who ultimately choose to attend is around their target

Has anyone else received absolutely NO news from Michigan at all? I've been complete for 6 months and I never got a hold or anything...I just never got anything at all.

lol same boat here, although it was clearly a reach for me anyways, maybe two of those 5 interviews left are for us

but yea some news, even a hold/rejection woulda been nice rather than "Your file is under review. Reviews may take up to several months and could include some "on hold" time while we compare files of groups of applicants....."

but then again, people who were post-interview (and not accepted) have already expressed their displeasure with umich admissions. in the admissions' defense, it seems like they really go out of their way for the people they have accepted, xmas cards, free fleeces, acceptance video, lol pretty cool stuff.

where can you send an update letter to? Michigan is my top choice and I'm about to send in the deposit but I want the fleece too!

There's a link for updates on your status page. I remember Director Ruiz saying that they don't want anything in paper besides thank you notes.

I thought Michigan didn't require a deposit?

It's not a deposit to hold your spot. You can hold it for as long as you'd like without money but as soon as you decide to actually go there, its $200. Thanks for the info though!

750/750 interviews have been offered =/

I wish they considered me for MD only while they were debating my MSTP application for months. When they first started looking at me for MD only there were only 25 spots left...........

Does anyone know when 2nd look is?
