I'll take 1001 for fun too. Also a pretty good number. 😛
classes start june 1st
yes but orientation starts may 24...
Taken stright from the website in the FAQ section:
I read you are an Early Start Program. When do classes begin?
Orientation begins May 24, 2010 for the Class of 2014. Classes begin May 31, 2010.
Also, how many are in the high hold group? I emailed Dana and was told I was high on the hold list, but I don't how high that really is or how many more are likely to be accepted?!

The May 15th referred to is for most other allopathic schools which have a May 15th deadline.
I think what some people are saying is that FSU moved the April 15th deadline to May 1st or possibly May 15th. Although I am not sure about this?? Also, I know you found out after May 15th...and I am still hoping to hear good news from them!! If you do find out after May 15th...how long do they give you to make a decision. I think you said one day in one of your old posts. I am sure I would make the decision even faster than that 🙂 but it would be nice to know the time-frame. Hopefully I hear soon. Thanks for all of your info...
Anyone else get this e-mail today with an attachment placing you "on hold"?
Is this FSU's waitlist e-mail, or is this even worse than being waitlisted? 🙁
It says I will be notified if I am accepted or rejected by the end of May...
Gator 22, when did you interview? I am only asking because I received this email about a week and half after my interview. They let you know a decision after your interview telling you that you are either "on hold" or accepted. I have been on hold since that time, as many other people have been too. I don't think "on hold" is worse or better than being waitlisted...more or less the same thing at this point. Now we are all waiting. Mosspoh...you have some advice?
Yes, yes! But what exactly is high hold? The top 1/2? The top 1/3? This is really worrying me b/c I know its going to come down to the wire for us all. Also, GL to everyone!

I agree... I am starting to get a little worried about how MANY people are on this "high hold" list. Like I mentioned previously, I know 2 people who were also sent the high hold letter and have since been accepted, (neither of which was me haha) yet its seeming there are so many people on this list. I wonder how many people are in this category?![]()
I know exactly what you mean. As much as I am tempted to email Dana and ask her these questions about the "high" hold list, I am trying to refrain from bothering her about something she probably will not/is not able to answer. Oh well. Trying to stay upbeat about everything. 👍

That is what is worrying me. And I wonder if all of the people who got that high hold letter have been accepted yet. I wish I got that letter but I'm going to stay hopeful since I'm still high on the list... whatever that means.
Not everyone has been accepted that got the letter. I received the letter back in Feb/March and still haven't heard anything... But if you are on high hold, I am guessing its the same thing?? So we are probably both in the same category. I know of someone who was accepted of the hold list without getting that letter, and 2 people who were recently accepted that did get the letter. Who knows...
It seems like there are quite a number of people on the "high hold" list. Or maybe we're just all on SDN and it's a statistical anomaly. lol
Anyone know just how many people in the average M1 class at FSU got taken off the wait list? The letter (I didn't get one, but from what I remember reading on here) said that they expected to accept 65. That would mean greater than 50% of the class is off the wait list. That seems quite high to me (unless FSU is everyone's back-up school and those FSU accepts also get accepted elsewhere)...
The letter said they expect to take "over 50 students" off the hold list... so I guess that is a good estimate?? Now if everyone in "high hold" category = 50+... that could take some time to get down that far!!!

Since some of us are on the hold list and if we get accepted, it'll be later in the month, really rushed... Is there any advice on housing... new apartments, close locations to look at, rent, safety, etc.?
Housing is beyond easy in Tallahassee. There are so many apartments being sublet for the summer you really wouldn't have a problem. It is all personal preference. Generally speaking, you can pick any two of nice, close and cheap. You can live close to campus and be fairly cheap, but it will not be nice. Nice and cheap, but it wont' be very close. The list goes on
Safety? Lock your doors. While Tallahassee isn't a "safe" town by any means, I lived on the border of the worst area and never had any problems. Basic guideline is to not be stupid.
If you get called off super late and can't even find a sublet for summer then I would even let someone crash on my couch for a few days while they look. I know others that'd volunteer as well. It isn't a big deal.
Another note:
Make sure the place you chose is one that you wouldn't mind living in for the full first year!!!
Sublease for summer usually ends Late JULY or Early August. While first year classes dont end til August 20. So there is 2-3 weeks where you are homeless if you dont re-up. So find a good place to live and re-up so you dont have to worry about moving around when you have finals to worry about!!
I am going to live in Colony Club (5 min walk). I know alot of people that will live in Legacy Suite (5-10 min walk) and its very new (2 years old). Just lock your doors and be smart and you will be OK.
Soon to be third year at FSU (last test of 2nd year tomorrow...other than THE BIG ONE, of course.)
I check sdn infrequently just to try to help out an future FSU COM students, so I'll quickly address a couple of the most recent posts before off to bed.
First, some of my smartest classmates got into FSU within the last week or two before classes started, and a lot of them got in b/c people withdrew and went elsewhere...a lot of turnover that last couple of weeks. Try not to worry if you're waitlisted, b/c it won't do any good anyway. (Easier said than done, I know.)
2nd of all, in the interest of safety and full disclosure, Tallahassee has some pretty rough neighborhoods, and unfortunately the campus is near a couple of them. In short, no matter where you end up living, be careful coming and going from campus after dark, and be smart.
Specifically, on the places to llive subject, stay away from Campus Edge. There are some decent places near campus on Pensacola Street, and a lot of people live relatively far from campus on Tennessee/Mahan. I recommend trying to sign a sublet from a FSU COM student leaving town, if you have to move in on short-notice. I know a lot of my classmates are leaving town with a month or two left on their leases, and this would buy you some time to get to know some of your classmates/potential roommates, etc. If you get the call late, just email Dana and ask her to let the class of 2012 know that you are a student looking to possibly sublease.
Any questions I can answer, send them to me and I will try, (no promises), to get back to you soon.
anyone heard anything on the waitlist? is the waitlist going to start moving with only 2 weeks until class starts?
Has anyone else's status page been updated recently? My status page has read "Office of Admissions Review Completed" since last Tuesday.
Next week will probably involve more movement. I have faith that everyone who posts here will get accepted. Why? Because I consider you my little buddies simply for being on SDN.
Haha thanks MossPoh! Let's hope you are right, because I am starting to get a bad feeling in my stomach about all this. Everyone I personally know that received a "fully expect to accept you" letter has been accepted, and everyone I know who didn't get the letter has since been denied. And then there is me!! haha.
You think most of the movement won't occur until next week?![]()
Were the people you know who were denied initially put on hold and then have recently been rejected?Haha thanks MossPoh! I didn't get the "fully except to accept you" letter either, and I'm still in limbo-land. ;-) Here's hoping we get in!
