Where did you chose to go Lyrics?

I was accepted off the waitlist at Miami, so barring anything crazy happening, I will be attending a school within driving distance of the beach.... wooo! But I really like FSU's program too and it was a hard letter to write... I'm sure anyone who ends up here will be extremely happy. I hope my seat goes to someone who really wants it =) Good luck to everyone still waiting...

Thanks! And good luck to you! Enjoy Miami! You'll be coming and I'll be going, lol

Cheers to April 15th being tomorrow!!! Anyone hear any news lately???

Good school. We are driving distance from the beach too. 😉 Not quite the scenery as down there, but I can still be on the water in 30 minutes if need be. Good luck. 😛

Haha thanks MossPoh! Let's hope you are right, because I am starting to get a bad feeling in my stomach about all this. Everyone I personally know that received a "fully expect to accept you" letter has been accepted, and everyone I know who didn't get the letter has since been denied. And then there is me!! haha.

You think most of the movement won't occur until next week? :luck:

I would expect it to start accelerating a few days after the 15th. I have little more to go off than you guys with that. I just feel that it isn't an instantaneous process.

Remember, I was accepted a few days before orientation and my friend was accepted DURING orientation. 😛

I sincerely hope everyone gets to go somewhere they love. If you still don't have anywhere to go for this year but are on waitlists, I'd suggest getting everything in order and tweaking your application for the next cycle. Don't give up hope for the current waitlist, but start thinking ahead. It sucks, but sometimes perfectly deserving applicants aren't given a chance on the first go-around. Just have to pick yourself up and try again!

Im applying for the 2010-2011 cycle. Would any matriculants/ applicants mind posting their MCAT and gpas and any other helpful info??

Read through this thread, check out an MSAR and wait for the next one to be created. GPA and MCAT is only a chunk of what is needed.

Hey guys I think I have been following this thread since before I took to MCAT! I just got accepted off the waitlist which I have been on for a month and a half! Just wanted to let you everyone know there is some movement... Also I did not recieve the email stating that I would get in if I waited but when I emailed admissions they said I was "high" on the hold list... Hope this makes sense, I'm at work and very excited!

Congrats Geb06! If you don't mind me asking, did you just find out today? I am just trying to get an idea of if things are starting to move on the waitlist. I am getting a little nervous. 🙂

Thanks everyone, and Gator8 I found out at 11am ish today!

I dont want to make you nervous gator8, but since you asked, I was accepted off the FSU waitlist Friday morning via an email. I was not on the "High hold" or maybe I was, I didn't ask them. I wish you the best of luck! :luck:

Gator8... I was given the letter of "we fully expect to accept you" back in March and also told I was "high hold"... but still nothing on my side... so you are not alone. I am starting to get nervous too.

If you dont mind me asking you other two who were recently accepted off the list, are you both planning to attend?

Has anybody recently contacted the school and asked if they have ranked the hold list or anything?

I just released my acceptance to FSU. Hopefully one of you still waiting will get it! Good luck everyone 😉

I called this morning and talked to Margie b/c I was having trouble sending my transcript. I never got the email saying "We fully anticipate accepting you" but I did email Dana for my status and she said I was "high on the hold list". Margie told me that there are 70-80 people in the "high hold group" but also that fewer people have given up their spots than in any previous year...so essentially I think they will end up accepting less than the 220 people they mentioned at interview day. She never mentioned whether or not the "high hold group" was ranked.

🙁 UGH... this is so nerve-racking! 70-80 people?!

Of course less people have given up their seat this year since the cycle isn't over and people will continue to give up their seat through orientation. If 70-80 people are on the high hold list and admissions says they take many people in this category I still think our chances are high. Acceptances just might not come in big junks as in previous years.

Thanks for the pep talk bcs2010 😀

Thanks for trying to help us stay somewhat optimistic. I was really hoping that high hold list would be down to 30 (or less) people.

Me too. I keep getting this sinking feeling that I'm going to be that one person who was next on the list after all the spots are filled... :-(

Quick question- I dont know if you got specifics, but did they say it was DOWN to 60-70 people, or originally consisted of 70 people? There is probably a huge difference what it was orig and what it is now. I know a few who were accepted off the holdlist (and declined). So maybe the list is down to 30 or so now, but started at 60-70? I am being very hopeful with this estimate though haha.

I was thinking something similar and of the 30 left you have to figure some of them will be pulled off other waitlists too.

I am hoping that the list STARTED at 70-80, and is now less...but I got the feeling she was not supposed to disclose specifics. I agree that some people are being pulled off other waitlists, but this is scary!!

Maybe I shouldn't have said that I was hoping they'd be down to 30 on the high hold wait-list... Now I'm even more nervous... 70-80 originally or 70-80 on the list right now...?!!! 😱

70 to 80 isn't as much as it sounds. You have to go back to the fact there are a lot of people on that list that just never mentioned they weren't interested or plan on going somewhere else.

Good luck with the app process. My stats are posted on my mdapps profile, but the best source for this kind of info would be the most recent MSAR, as SDN is not going to be representative. I can't quote the stats for my class off the top of my head, but I want to say the average MCAT score for my classmates was in the 28-29 range, maybe a point or so more or less.

But as far as that goes, FSU is really one school that will take a person with less than spectacular numbers over an applicant with a 40+, 4.0. I know people with better MCAT scores than myself who did not get in; at the same time, I know some of my classmates had 26s and 27s, and I would not be at all surprised if some had lower scores than that. So if your numbers are anywhere near competitive and your lucky enough to get an interview, then show up on interview day with a positive attitude and be yourself, and you will probably be fine. If you have specific questions, feel free to PM me. It may take a while for me to get back to you, as I am studying for boards, but I will eventually.

Big congrats to the new members of FSU COM! As always, PM me if you have questions, and I'll give you my email address.

For those of you still waiting, you won't accomplish anything by worrying yourself to death. It's out of your hands at this point. The best thing you can possibly do for yourself is believe that you're going to get in, (because if you are on the high wait list, there is a really good chance that you will), and on that note, go out and really try to enjoy the last few days of what will (hopefully) be your last summer of having a normal, non-medical student life. And for goodness sake, limit the SDN time; it will only drive you crazy!

Seriously, I know that I couldn't possibly say anything to make you stop worrying, but if you have a decent shot at getting in before orientation, then go to the beach, read a book you've been meaning to read, hang out with your best friend, spend time with your parents/brothers/sisters, go on a trip...do something fun for yourself if at all possible. If you get in, you'll thank me when you're spending 10+ hours/day cramming for your first anatomy test in a few weeks.

Good luck

I can't agree more than what mdgator said on both posts.

It is probably best to stay out of here, or at least out of this thread for quite some time. I remember feeling like I wanted to jump off a cliff when I was reading all these people getting in while I was sitting there waiting. It is agonizing and doesn't help to see all the others so damn happy. 😛

My spot will be opening in a few hours. Good luck everybody!

I decided to go to UF. Ultimately, it's closer to my family and extended family. Additionally, although I have a slight interest in primary care, I don't know if I want to go to a school where that's in the mission statement. Lastly, I'd like to eventually practice and live in a large metropolitan area, and by glancing at UF's match list, I found it was riddled with a bunch of cities/programs I've grown to adore. Of course, these are all goals I could achieve at FSU, but I feel like UF would open the door a bit wider.

Ha, now I'm just justifying my decision to myself. It was a hard decision to make. I liked FSU for a lot of reasons, but ultimately, they weren't the right reasons for me.

Dana sounded upset when I called. I'm sorry, Dana! You and FSU are still awesome.

It sounds like you really did make the decision that was right for you. Good luck at UF! (And hopefully, maybe, just maybe your spot will go to one of us *crosses fingers*) 🙂

Do we need to send our final transcripts if we're on the wait list or should we wait until we receive an acceptance?

If your on the waitlist, your final grades from spring semester would make a good update, showing the COM you are still interested. I don't think it could hurt. 🙂

I sent Margie the updated grades, but just the unofficial screen printout that I get from my school's online thing. I called her in January and she told me to do that for fall grades -- that an official transcript wasn't necessary. But I was just wondering if, since I'm now finished with my degree, I should send the official transcript... I just looked at it now, and it doesn't even have the degree on there yet (graduation was only this past Sunday, so it's not surprising)...
