I submitted my application early September and was finally complete Oct 1, after I called to ask why I am not complete. She completed my application within 10 minutes. 😱

Also, is there a particular reason why FSU cannot disclose applicant or status information over the phone?

they dont want 100 phone calls a day asking about their status. 😀

they told me the same thing last year.

Ah I see.
I called to ask about my application and she said that I should send her an email and she will respond to that, but not over the phone.
I thought it was rather strange, but she responded to my email within minutes.😀
No complaints there.

I go to the "review status" when logged into the secondary application site... it says at bottom, "Secondary Application Received,".... Will it eventually say "complete"....What im trying to ask is how did you know your application was not complete?

On my status page it says what has been received, my secondary, photo, and letters. I knew I was not complete because a friend of mine had their status page indicate "complete"

Also, I believe you are supposed to get an email indicating that your app is complete.

After I asked about my application, my status page was changed to say Application Complete and Under Review.

Hope that helps.

Same here. My status page shows they have received everything but doesn't say "complete". They got everything by Aug 4th. ??!!

Thanks man definitely helped. How long on average do you think it would take for them to give you a "complete" application status? My adviser has a picture of me so I dunno if she mailed it with my letter or not. But I emailed the picture anyway.

No Problem, but FYI I am a woman, girl, or female.😀

Well the status page said that it takes approximately 2-3 weeks to process letters after receiving them.

If it has been a month since you submitted, maybe shoot them a friendly, curious email?
It is October so maybe they have a lot going on? October 15 is around the corner, maybe they are making decisions?

I sent them an email about an hour ago, and within 10 minutes I received a "complete" email back. Talk about service!!

Ohhhh... I had no idea those three were the same :wow: ...haha jp 😉.

Sorry its kind of a habit lol. Ya i read that part, my letters of rec were turned in early/mid september. The secondary app and photo was done a little later. So I dunno if there a waiting for period for the app and photo or just the letters. Anyway, im sure it takes a few weeks so ill get a hold of them a little later if i dont hear anything. And i guess you're right, they prob swamped with apps while inviting ppl in for interviews.

I applied to over 30 schools and only got interviews from 9 of them. I was post interview rejected from 2. The only thing that kept me sane was that I got into the first two schools I interviewed at.

By the way guys, at your interviews when they ask the "Why here?" type questions, do know that they can tell when you're full of BS about the answers. Pretty much everyone that interviews or attends here gives the whole thing where "I want to practice medicine in a rural or underserved area with a particular focus on geriatrics" or something. The professors/docs that do interviews even joke about it on a regular basis. I'm not saying to avoid talking about that. Just stick to what you truly believe though. If you are currently interested in surgery then just say so. If you are interested in family practice then so be it. If you don't truly know (like me) then say you are eager to explore all the options. The truth of the matter is that very very very few of us will have ANY clue what we want till we start marking stuff off during 3rd year.

That is my advice for interviews. Be genuine and honest. They want compassionate and caring people before anything else.

I was complete on the 30th of September and I was invited for an interview on the 7th of october.
This school moves fast, but not as fast as FIU which gave me a interview invite after 4 days of being complete. I am still waiting from the other schools.

I was complete in September, invited to interview a week later, then interviewed a week later. My app (at least numerically) is not quite phenomenal so not sure what they're looking for. I bleed orange and blue, but I got a really good feeling from this school and [swallows pride] could see myself choosing FSU over UF.

Friends,

I'm a first year student along with MossPoh here at FSU. Let me start off by saying coming here was one of the best decisions of my life, even though I had another acceptance (UM@FAU), was the last person to interview (May 4th... the last official day the school was interviewing was May 1st!), and had to cut my overseas vacation to Italy short in order to get back before the May start date.

All that to say, this is a wonderful school. Great faculty, great student, great facilities. I know a lot of you are worried about starting in May, but getting Anatomy out of the way in the summer gives us a much easier and laid back first year than most people. Plus, it's a great way to get to know your classmates and build relationships.

Also, don't be worried about not getting an interview right away! I had to wait until December for my first interview invite, and FSU was my last interview invite after I already had plans to go to another school.

I'm not downplaying the emotional drain of waiting, believe me, I was a wreck of the highest order before I got my first acceptance. Try to fill your life with as many other activities as possible... it will leave you less time to worry.

Finally, as MossPoh said earlier, these people can see right through your BS if you're not a BS expert. FSU was my first interview where I didn't shave my beard off (it was neatly trimmed), made sure to give my honest opinion on all ethical/moral issues presented, and be straightforward regarding why I wanted to come to the school and specialty interest. I interviewed with both deans, and since i was the only student there that day, there was no time limit, so the interviews were quite long (1-1.25 hours each!). They were easily the toughest interviews I had.

But apparently, being myself worked. You should do it too.

Best of luck guys, let me know if you have any questions.

It took me a second to realize who you were. I had to go through my mental Rolodex man!

I have my interview today. It's my first one!!! Saying I'm nervous doesn't even come close....

Well, I'm sitting next to where you guys usually go right now, but if they keep talking then that probably won't last much longer.

I saw you guys all wandering around today. Very cute. 😉

Haha, thanks!!! FSUCOM is AMAZING. I would go there in a heartbeat. Here's hoping they like me as much as I like them!

Getting an interview is a pretty good sign with FSU, at least from my small sample size. I was one of the only people I knew that wasn't outright accepted. Don't get me wrong, people are rejected and waitlisted but I remember the complete feeling of frustration and depression when everyone I knew was accepted post interview but me. Your tour guides were good ones today too. Probably two of the nicest and most intelligent people in our class.

Anybody else have an interview here next Monday? I'm so excited...It's my first one!🙂

You'll be coming on one of the more relaxed days for first year students. (we have a test this friday)

Yeah, the first years seemed really stressed about that.

They were super nice though! I really enjoyed meeting them. I liked my interviewers too.

They said we should know sometime after next Tuesday....

Too bad you don't get to meet any third or fourth years

Well I guess that's one downside about it but everything else I've heard about this school is good so I can overlook that (especially if they offer me admission:xf: lol)...Good luck on your exam MossPoh!

You wouldn't meet 3rd or 4th years at most schools. They don't hang around the classrooms. They are out on the wards. I know plenty of them and they are for the most part very happy. Biggest complaints I've heard involve some places like Ft. Pierce being kind of rough if you are single since the dating scene isn't great. In addition, I've heard some people had less than satisfactory rotations in certain areas which they are always trying to fix. An example was someone that had surgery as pretty much 9 to 5. While it is nice to have such a cush gig, you learn best under fire and have to know that you CAN pull those long shifts if need be.

The complaints have been surprisingly few overall though.

Off to my Drexel interview tomorrow, but still nothing from anywhere in Florida. I thought, if anywhere, I would have at least heard from my own state schools by now. Oh well...just another reason why I'm trying not to make sense of this process.

Don't sweat it yet. FSU has a very small department for this stuff compared to most schools. I submitted the earliest one could technically submit and I didn't even hear about an interview till around now or a week before last year....

Thanks, Mosspoh:xf:

I'm pretty sure that you will get an interview from FSU. Last year, I had the same stats number wise that you have and I got an interview. I got the invite in December. Just give it some time. Plus you already have two interviews from two really great schools. You will do fine!

FYI, for those of you with interviews make sure to use Priceline to book your hotel. I looked for the closest hotel to campus and it was $160/night. I put a bid in on Priceline for $50 and it booked the same exact hotel.

With apps being so expensive, we can all use a little savings here and there.

I really appreciate your positive thoughts!

If you can I'd recommend asking about student hosting. As I've stated before, you are interviewing the school as much as they are interviewing you. Gain as much insight as possible for later decisions...plus it is fun and saves you money usually.

Thanks but I live in Orlando, so I plan to drive to tallassee early in the morning and return back to Orlando after the interview. That's going to be more than Eight hours of driving in one day! That's okay I think i can handle it. My interview is on the 30th of October. I hope the class is not nearly filled by then. I also interviewed earlier this year in Jan. I wonder if I will have the same interviewer this year...

I actually meant to quote the priceline thing. No idea why it came up like that. Either way, I recommend staying in each town. There is more to a medical school than the school. You have to live in each town for at least 2 years, if not longer. Might as well see some of that as well.

I did that. my brother and I drove up there from tampa in the morning. Fun times 🙄

I could find out from here as early as next Wednesday... This is going to be a long week...

Although I'll probably be in the "we'll continue to review you" pile....

So much purgatory in the med school process!

Dude I drove from Orlando the night before and it was brutal. Good luck with that!!! With that said, I'm waiting on Oct 15th! :luck:

I was initially hesitant on driving to Tally the morning of my interview, and I live 2.5 hours away.

I am debating if I should get a hotel the night before.

Priceline a hotel... you can get them super cheap and enjoy your evening/waking up.

Hey everybody,

I was where you guys were last year. Don't stress out too much and don't worry about the class filling early. Several were accepted all the way up to orientation last year.

Shoot me any questions you might have.

Hey, so I got in back in September. Never get on here so it took me awhile to remember to get on and inform. I'd love to hear from anybody else in the class of 2014.

Also, I'd love to answer any questions, if there are any. Just private message if you do, since I obviously don't actively get on studentdoctor.net. It seems MossPoh and locus are on point though. Good luck to everyone applying this year and with interviews! Hope to see you in May!

When were you complete

It's the 15th...
