When I emailed them last week I asked all kinds of questions like that but the response they gave me was basically that they aren't going to tell us any of that. Maybe if someone calls today it will be a different story, but I have a feeling they don't want to say that they will be taking any particular strategy.

Yeah, Phoenix has never been likely to give that info out. Someone might try calling Tucson to see if they are any closer to figuring themselves out though.

Friday is going to be an awesome day for me. I'll probably get word from both campuses, but I am also going to see my brother (a dentist) because a filling I got several years ago failed and has been bothering me. In addition to that, my daughter has her six month shots scheduled, which, as any parent will tell you, is the worst day of your life. When I get shots, I literally don't feel the needle even as I watch it go in, but when it's your kid, you feel it 10x worse than they do.

So, basically, this is an open letter to the adcoms to give me good news this Friday as it will already suck hard enough. Also, while you're at it, could you please be nice to my friends here on SDN too and give them good waitlist spots? That would be awesome. Thank you.

I don't know if someone already posted this, but I didn't see a concrete date so I did call Tucson this morning and they said Wait-list and Rejection emails will be sent out on Friday.

I can't wait to hear all the good waitlist positions on here. :xf: Good luck every one! :luck: Friday can't come soon enough.

sorry to burst your bubble, but phoenix sent out WL emails last week... and if you're like me and didnt get one, its not a good sign =/

Come on eey0re, lets not be so pessimistic 🤣

We don't know anything for sure yet guys! Let's not accept rejection until it actually happens! Resilience! 😀

For all the loops they've thrown us in this process we should all just accept that nothing is final until they finalize it.

Come on eey0re, lets not be so pessimistic 🤣

just trying to live up to my name 😛

So that means the rejection comes any day now?

seeing as how phoenix has such a small class and quite a few WL emails went out last thursday and friday (presumably one day for IS WL emails, and another day for OOS WL emails), i dont want to hold onto false hope.

but if i must play devils advocate, i find it interesting that so many of those who received WL emails last week were ready to withdraw their spot, so i guess by some miracle the adcom could decide to send more out. :luck:

Every day is torture because I won't really give up the little hope that I have until I read that rejection letter. Just tell us something already!

So I called Tucson admissions and they said that there will NOT be separate IS and OOS waitlists and we'll be ranked together (most of you might have already known this but I didn't). So, it doesn't seem like Tucson is trying to keep a specific IS/OOS ratio. I would think that this works in favor of IS applicants (??) Not sure what to think, just hoping that I get on the WL Friday! Definitely keeping my WL spot for Phoenix though, would love to move to AZ.

I would love to stay in Phoenix. I'm with you Ylide. But, I applied to both campuses. I would gladly move for school, but I love Phoenix.

I have lived all over the country (and a few other countries) and I will tell you that you'll be hard pressed to find a better place. And I mean that honestly, not just sucking up! 😀 I love it here!

Can you imagine that some people move up to Madison, WI for school? Who would want to have 55degree summers? Blech.

I know at least one OOSer here that kept his spot on Phoenix's WL but is likely going elsewhere - he said he just wanted to keep his options open. That's another WL spot that should be freed 🙂

Im hoping most of the OOS'ers like Tucson better and choose to go there instead because I only applied to PHX and really liked it. 🙂

You should have applied to Tucson. You probably would have really liked it too.

Good luck to everyone waiting. Its almost Tuesday, which is almost Friday, so just stay positive!

Why does everyone rip Wisconsin so bad? I am from WI and I can tell you we do not have 55 degrees summers, more like 75-85 all summer. True we have long winters but the summer and fall here are gorgeous....plus UW is a great school (and most think Madison is a fun town).

I guess 3/12 months aint' that bad. :-D

I'm just an Arizona native, so I don't mind the heat at all.. Actually, I'm kinda missing it.

We have our own miserable time of the year here too, only its the reverse where its so hot I want to kill myself. I am biased though, since I have lived in Phoenix my whole life I've become so spoiled with sunshine and warmth that I hate it now. I've never lived anywhere with really really cold winters, but it kind of sounds appealing to me. I guess the grass is always greener as they say. Maybe in residency I can go freeze my butt off...

See, I think 50's and 60's is nice weather...I guess it depends what you're used to. I was actually freaking out at my interview because it was 100 degrees in October! Not sure about the hot weather all year round. I think it would be kinda weird not to really have seasons.

I guess you'll have to take my word for it but WI is a great place to live. It was 45 today and I didn't wear a coat....ah spring.

I hereby formally apologize to you, the state of WI, and anyone who feels the same way you do. 😀

I just meant to point out that I personally have tried a few different places and have found that the pros/cons of Phoenix make me the happiest!

I agree. My wife and I have a 16 month-old boy and . . . she basically sends me every time to get his shots b/c it is pretty painful watching him react :scared: Just realized they don't have a crying/screaming in pain emoticon.

 Wisconsin forgives you

Seriously though, I think AZ would be a cool place to move....so different than where I'm from. And you all seem to love it. Still trying to sort out Tucson vs. Phoenix though

Because everyone on this forum will at least have the option of attending either the PHX or Tucson campus 🙂 we'll need to know where to live. Who has the inside scoop on housing? Where are some nice places to live around either campus? Thanks!

For Tucson:
If you wanna live in style, live at Championship... (it's only super expensive!)
I rented with Casa Bonita for two years, and I'll say this: They suck!

In Tucson, if you want to live some place a little nicer, you're gonna have to be a few miles away from campus. We used to live in the University West neighborhood, but we were getting tired of the nightly search helicopters and decided it was time to move when we heard 5 random gunshots right outside our bedroom window in the middle of the night. Anywhere within a two mile radius of the University is just as bad or worse. I currently live off River between 1st and Campbell. It's pretty nice up here, and if you look in the right places it's suprisingly affordable. It's 4 miles from campus where I'm at, which in Tucson is about a 10 minute drive.

There are some pretty nice places really close to the Phoenix campus, but they are pretty expensive. The Camden apartments are really popular because they are two blocks from campus, but if you want a two bedroom apartment there you're gonna have to pay close to a grand a month, or at least that's what they were at when we checked them out a few weeks ago. If you don't mind a little bit of a commute, Ahwatukee has some really nice places for decent prices. They are right along the 10, so you can get to downtown Phoenix pretty quickly.

ehhh....there are definitely some places that are within 2 miles of campus that are decent. the sam hughes area is fine, and you can find some decent blocks between speedway and ft lowell with legit places.

i lived on the south side of tucson (at A mountain in that KB home community). you wanna talk about sketch? that was it

sounds like you currently live where i used to for two years......are you familiar with Park Place Condominiums? off of Roger and Mountain? its right near the arizona agriculture center

I can't say much as for where to live in Phoenix, but if anyone doesn't mind the drive from Tempe I will gladly suggest a few places here and there. Like I said, many apartments, many roommates- but, all within 2 miles of each other! (Or at least many were within a few miles, here in Tempe)

Is NOBODY else thinking about living in Tempe and commuting to school in downtown (if we get in 😀)?

Ahwatukee is nice... When I worked at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phx the 10 was horrible, so I always took 48th street up. It was a fun and relaxing drive.

I dunno Erik. I just feel like a 15-20 minute commute would get real old, real fast, regardless of how you want to do it, whether car or light rail. After a long four years of 7:45/8:25 science classes I'm looking forward to class starting at 9 and if I can get as close to campus as possible so I can roll out of bed at 8:45 I guarantee you I will be a happier and more successful med student. 🙂 That's just me, though. Jeff loves his sleepy time.

for those of you who think a 10-15 minute commute is bad, Dr. MadEvans commutes 30 minutes each way IIRC.

Yea, well my MadEvans commutes 120 minutes each way. Up a hill. Both ways. On foot. One foot.

I've lived in that area too. The complex itself was ok, but it seemed like we were always getting notified of sex offenders moving into the area. I also somehow got roped into cleaning up a murder scene in a house in that area once too, so I guess I have a bad memory of the area. Sam Hughes actually seems like a pretty decent area, but I never even looked into living there, so I have no idea what it's like personally.

Are the park place condos the really colorful ones? I have a friend who lives in there. I'm in Hacienda del Rio, just to the north.

parts of it are quite nice. right near campus (well the undergrad at least; a littler further from med). right near the food store, some bars, other food places. my sister lives in that neighborhood right now and she likes it.

yah, there are definitely bad areas in good parts of town and good areas in bad parts of town. i guess it's hit or miss. you can actually look up that sex offender stuff online now. putting in zipcode yields a map and it shows you the location of all sex offenders.

when i lived near A mountain in south tucson, we had car break-ins, house break-ins, gun shots....lots of times. broken windows....list goes on. rent was dirt cheap though. 2400 sq ft house. four bedrooms, 3 bath. 2 stories. 2 car garage with a little back yard. 1600 a month. what a steal.

With me it's just the opposite. I guess I'm just a big softy, but I can't watch. I literally curl up in the corner and start to tear up. Last time I darn near started sucking my thumb. I watched my wife's C-Section with no problem and saw lots of freaky stuff in my EMT training with no lasting issues, but there's just something about seeing your children in pain that gets to me.

That pretty much sums up Tucson for you. Unless you're in the foothills, Oro Valley or Starr Pass, but none of us will be able to live there until after med school.

Yes, but people need to stop watching Dateline. A child is FAR more likely to get abused by a family member or someone they already know.

Holla jturk. Did you choose phx over tucson yet? Good. 😎

Live close. Or, at least, closer than I do. Ahwatukee/Tempe is close enough.

yah....that wasnt what i was referring to. i was saying in general, if you are an individual moving to a new area, you can simply go to a website, put in the web address, and see /ifewhere the registered sex offenders live nearby. there are obviously many other cases and those that go unreported. i'm not saying which cases are more likely.....at all. i dont think i even hinted at that anywhere.

My walk from the bus to class today was made a bit easier by picturing how happy I will be the day I finally do get an acceptance.

Perhaps today is the day?

This week?

I'd settle for this month!

🙂

It is that thought alone that has made me grow to dislike weekends, as I know it will only come during the week.

I live close to school, and I am SO glad I do. Not that other people aren't happy commuting, because most of my classmates that do seem to be just fine with it (plus you can always spend the commute listening to Goljan or something).

However, I have discovered that I can leave at 8:53 and make it to class before the 9 o'clock lecture, which, to me, is perfection. I have a great condo (that I purchased, though some are for rent) on 7th Street and Roosevelt, and I love my place. 🙂 Besides, it's so much fun to live close to small coffee shops, bars, restaurants and other businesses, and great if you want to just walk out your front door and enjoy First Friday Artwalk!

So I finally got rejected by Creighton. Is it weird that it felt good to hear ANYTHING from a med school, even if it was a rejection? Odd how a negative change is sometimes better than the status quo...

Given that Spring Break is next week at UofA, what do you guys think that odds are that the waitlist/rejections will be sometime before Friday evening?

Given that and what people have learned by calling the office, I believe we will have final word from both campuses by Friday. We just can't be sure what time of day the emails will go out. I expect Tucson to go out around 9 AM with Phoenix sending them out early in the afternoon, at least I can't see them waiting until 5 or 6 PM the Friday of Spring Break.

notsopatient posted on this yesterday:

I don't think anyone has heard when the Phx rejections will go out. Also, we don't know when either campus will start filling the vacated spots.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

I have to admit, the suspense of not knowing is killing me! Props to anyone who can handle this better than I am.

So I have a fear that I hope doesn't come true, but I wanted to ask about it to see what you guys know. Say someone gets accepted to a different school or to the UA campus to which they'd rather not go, and say they're either on the Phoenix WL, or Tucson's at #57 or something. May comes around and they have to declare a school . . . What happens if they declare but then are accepted last minute to the campus they want to go to?

Thanks for the input 😀

Then you withdraw and the next person on that school's waitlist gets in. The biggest danger there is that some schools require a deposit when you declare your intent to go there which is non-refundable if you back out. Fortunately, UofA does not have a deposit.

My brother had that issue when applying to dental school. He got accepted early on to Pacific and paid the 1000 dollar deposit to hold his spot. Later, he got into his top choice via a waitlist and lost his deposit.
